AVOID ALDI

I went to Anerley/Penge store yesterday to buy 5 x packs of new born baby nappies. The lady on the till rudely said I could only have 2 as it was 'against the rules to have more'! Didn't say what rules - and Act of Parliament, EU rules, FA rules but ignored my comment that the Aldi website says ‘Maximum Purchase Quantity - 15’. This is not a reference to the maximum number of individual nappies as most of the packs have over 15. The new born has 60. Two members of staff came over and told me very aggressively that if I didn’t like the policy I could leave and took away ALL the nappies so I was unable to buy any for the new born baby. I asked for their names but they refused. One had no badge and the other took their badge off. Fortunately, I was able to take video and some photos so they can be identified. Aldi have a very curious relationship with their customers. If you phone the Customer Service number there is a recorded message saying they are ‘not taking calls’. Aldi have AWFUL feedback on Trustpilot and I doubt anyone will bother to contact me - Lidl is the winner!

Nah - sorry mate, I love Aldi.

SwanOfThoseThings · 21/02/2025 12:06

Guessing these are priced cheaply as a 'loss leader'. Poor customer service, but they are not obliged to sell them to you - you can and have voted with your feet which is a fair response.

MuddyPawsIndoors · 21/02/2025 12:06

NO BECAUSE I LOVE SHOPPING IN ALDI.

It must've been annoying for you but for the love of God, why do customers always insist they were told something 'rudely' or 'abruptly', just because they're being told something they don't want to hear?

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 21/02/2025 12:06

Everybody should avoid a national chain because you couldn't buy three packs of nappies? You're really the main character of the world, aren't you.

Happyearlyretirement · 21/02/2025 12:08

Our Aldi staff are brilliant.

PuppyMonkey · 21/02/2025 12:08

That’s nice dear.

CleanShirt · 21/02/2025 12:09

I ❤️ Aldi.

gamerchick · 21/02/2025 12:09

Nah man, that new hair mask is a game changer for menopause hair. I haven't had such silky locks that behave themselves for years. YEARS.

I'm not giving that up because someone had a trolley load of cheap nappies.

What is the name of that hair mask, please? I'm desperate 😂

ThatsNotMyTeen · 21/02/2025 12:12

if they took the nappies off you then I would anticipate there is more to this on your part than a polite questioning

Starlightstarbright4 · 21/02/2025 12:12

My Ds is 17 .. I don’t think I need to worry about how many packs of nappies I can buy .

if all those staff came over .. I suggest your response was not great.

Mingenious · 21/02/2025 12:15

Why does your newborn need 300 nappies immediately?

Yabu, I love aldi too.

Pablova · 21/02/2025 12:17

Members of the public videoing and photo retailer workers going about their jobs is appalling behaviour, you get no sympathy from me.

SJM1988 · 21/02/2025 12:18

Its common for all supermarkets to put limits in place for the number of items you can have. My Aldi do it regularly with their special buys and at times with toilet roll/kitchen roll. But its usually marked with a little sign near the item to tell you the limit. Tesco and Asda near me do it too.

TheChosenTwo · 21/02/2025 12:19

I do avoid Aldi. No specific reason, I get my food shop delivered and avoid other supermarkets too!

MuddyPawsIndoors · 21/02/2025 12:19

From Aldi's website.

Purchase Limits
It is not ALDI policy to limit purchases to one per customer, but in the event of unexpectedly high demands, each store does reserve the right to limit quantities.

At least they were willing to let you have two 🤷‍♂️

Could you tell me more about this. I have really dry hair and am looking for a good intensive mask that will moisturise and smooth. Is it leave on stuff?

gamerchick · 21/02/2025 12:20

sprigatito · 21/02/2025 12:12

In the middle aisle. It's supposed to go with the oil but I find the oil tricky as it's a dropper and it's easy to use too much. This on its own is the business. 3 squirts, 4 at a push but no more. Shampoo only, towel dry and smooth it through. Then dry as usual.

Edit, I've posted a picture but it's under review

This

I cannot believe you recorded them. That's pretty silly and a bit intimidating...what were you going to do with the footage? Publish it online to get people to stop shopping there as the thread title suggests?

Anyway, no I won't avoid. I go there fairly regularly and won't be stopping

GretaGip · 21/02/2025 12:21

Just surprised there was nobody turning around and clapping.

Redglitter · 21/02/2025 12:22

Right so everyone should avoid Aldi because you dealt with one member of staff who you didn't like.

Yeah seems reasonable 🙄

I'd love to hear the staffs version of events because at the moment my sympathy is with them

feathermucker · 21/02/2025 12:23

Behave yourself.

WingBingo · 21/02/2025 12:24

I’m here for the hair mask

TSMWEL · 21/02/2025 12:24

Thanks @gamerchick, off to Aldi to see if I can find it!
