AVOID ALDI

Neadham222 · 21/02/2025 12:03

I went to Anerley/Penge store yesterday to buy 5 x packs of new born baby nappies. The lady on the till rudely said I could only have 2 as it was 'against the rules to have more'! Didn't say what rules - and Act of Parliament, EU rules, FA rules but ignored my comment that the Aldi website says ‘Maximum Purchase Quantity - 15’. This is not a reference to the maximum number of individual nappies as most of the packs have over 15. The new born has 60. Two members of staff came over and told me very aggressively that if I didn’t like the policy I could leave and took away ALL the nappies so I was unable to buy any for the new born baby. I asked for their names but they refused. One had no badge and the other took their badge off. Fortunately, I was able to take video and some photos so they can be identified. Aldi have a very curious relationship with their customers. If you phone the Customer Service number there is a recorded message saying they are ‘not taking calls’. Aldi have AWFUL feedback on Trustpilot and I doubt anyone will bother to contact me - Lidl is the winner!

how much is your child pooping

LurcherMumma · 21/02/2025 12:41

I personally should avoid Aldi because I go in for a (couple) of packs of nappies and come out with a load of snacks and toys.

Unfortunately I'm now off there to find a hair mask .

Workhardcryharder · 21/02/2025 12:42

Good god you were one of those loons with a camera filming these poor people at work 🤢 can I click YABU more than once?

ThatUniqueKoala · 21/02/2025 12:42

Hasn't gone how you've hoped has it OP.

You were just being a dick to staff doing their jobs.

Try not to act so entitled in whatever supermarket you go in from now on.

Needmorelego · 21/02/2025 12:43

Supermarkets are perfectly within their rights to restrict quantities of products.
5 packs of nappies is ridiculous. You don't need that many at once.
The only time you would is if you have twins/triplets/or more. In cases like that you just TALK to the store manager politely about it and they will allow you to purchase more.
Society is getting worse 🙁

Tara336 · 21/02/2025 12:43

Please read the threads from Mumsnetters who work in retail and are tired of being abused by customers and then ask yourself "was i rude? Did i behave reasonably" before telling everyone to stop shopping in a store

InfoSecInTheCity · 21/02/2025 12:44

Of course it's not a law or act of parliament you dimwit, it's a store policy to prevent people buying all the stock of an item and ensure there's something for other people to buy.

All you had to do was accept the request to put a couple of packs back with grace and manners and you'd have been able to walk out of the store with enough affordable nappies to see you through for a while.

Instead you acted like such a tit they had to call for reinforcements and ask you to leave.

Learn from this and do better.

Ineedanewsofa · 21/02/2025 12:44

Having worked in a discount retailer, if someone comes along and empties the shelf of a product they’ll often refuse to sell the whole lot to them because it messes up the stock for an amount of time and a store will get marked down if audited/the area manager walks in and the shelf is empty. They’ll also watch stock more closely if they haven’t had a delivery they expected.
Your behaviour was appalling, videoing and no doubt being rude and confrontational to staff who are just doing their job is awful. No wonder people don’t want to stay in retail jobs with arsehole customers like you @Neadham222
Also good luck with Customer Services, the amount of calls I heard where some scumbag was trying to pull a fast one and threatened to “plaster it all over facebook” was ridiculous, it’s water off a duck’s back to them

Thindog · 21/02/2025 12:44

I’m a bit worried now, will there be panic buying of hair mask? Can I get more that 3?

ComealongSpring · 21/02/2025 12:46

Well this has backfired OP. 🤣 💇‍♀️

No leave some for everyone else 😂. If you try to buy more they will rudely tell you that if you don’t like the rules, you can jog on.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 21/02/2025 12:48

Bloody hell, videoing people in a shop is so low and very pathetic. I love Aldi too and will continue to shop there.

chelseahealyslips · 21/02/2025 12:48

Oh stop your nonsense. Your behaviour was rude and frankly ridiculous. Just buy the maximum amount and go back a different day and do it again. Nobody needs 300 newborn nappies like right this minute do they.

Arlanymor · 21/02/2025 12:49

Buying 300 nappies in one go deprives other customers of the product, it’s totally unreasonable. You can’t possibly need so many all at once and, if by some strange reason you do, then you need to bulk buy - open a Cost Co account or opt for home delivery. This reminds me of the toilet roll fiasco during COVID - it’s a shame that supermarkets have to enforce these rules because people behaved selfishly or without common sense.

I wonder how you responded to have warranted having any sale of nappies refused to you and requiring extra staff to get involved. And you filmed all of this did you? How obnoxious. I think Aldi will be very pleased if you take your business away as they won’t have to deal with your nonsense ever again.

I’m also laughing at the unintended consequence of MORE people now going to Aldi off the back of the hair mask recommendation! Me too as it happens!

chelseahealyslips · 21/02/2025 12:49

Also the hair mask 👀

Needmorelego · 21/02/2025 12:53

@Neadham222 yes get a Costco card for the Costco down at Purley Way then you can buy in bulk to your hearts content.
Although I expect I will see soon you on the local parents Facebook group trying to give away a load of unused nappies that your baby had outgrown.

Bloom15 · 21/02/2025 12:55

YABU - and don't video people - you sound ridiculous

Snorlaxo · 21/02/2025 12:58

The hair mask and oil is a dupe for K18

That's useful to know. Aldi never sell the good stuff for ever. I'm still waiting for the day and night serums in the little bottles to come back. It's been years!

Teenybub · 21/02/2025 13:25

I would be mortified if I found out someone in my family had been raging in Aldi and filming the staff. The Aldi staff will be having a right laugh though for the rest of the day, wonder what nickname they’ve come up with for you.

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 21/02/2025 13:43

overthinkingandworried · 21/02/2025 12:36

They should have at least let you buy the limit ?

Also what if someone has twins or triplets?

There is no fixed limit.

And unless the twins or triplets shit 100 times a day each, they don't need 300 nappies.

vladimirVsvolodymr · 21/02/2025 13:51

@Neadham222 I feel you. I had an experience in a big chain clothes store that their Christmas and summer sale draw a lot of people.
Being a sale day there are clothes everywhere and by the time I got in the bags that staff were handing out was all gone.
I had picked some clothes, had them hanging on my arm when a staff offered me another bag. Gratefully took the bag and went to a corner away from people to shove the clothes in the bag.
Within two mins a member of staff came towering over me (I was crouching whilst putting the clothes in the bag) shouting at me to get the clothes off the floor, I tried explaining that I'm putting them in the bag and she kept shouting and walked away.
I was shocked, composed myself went to the till and asked for the supervisor, guess who showed up? Same woman, I told her very politely that's not the way to speak to people even and it was very rude and intimidating due to the way I was positioned. Her response'I don't have time for this' and walked away. I told her whilst she was walking away that I will be writing a letter of complaint which seemed to stop her in her tracks but she continued walking.
I went back to the store next day, spoke to the store manager who apologized, I messaged their customer service on X and spoke to them and they apologised thoroughly. They went to investigate and called me back a few days later admitting that they found the supervisor, she's been spoken to and will be dealt with, apologised again and sent me a voucher.
That was my first time making a complaint as she was so rude I had never encountered such behaviour in customer service. Ironically I used to work for that company a few years ago at a different branch and I shop there mainly for kids clothes.
Apologies for the long post, I will complain in writing. You can make your point without being rude to people.

You complained she was 'towering over you' whilst admitting you were crouching down?

Unless she was 2 feet tall, how could she help that? 🤣🤣

You've received the standard response when customers make ridiculous complaints like this, which is always a voucher and 'we've spoken to the staff member' even when they haven't.

And of course, apparently all shop staff are 'shouters' when it comes to the customer not liking what they've been told.

vladimirVsvolodymr · 21/02/2025 16:25

@muddypawsondoors Nope she was in my space giving me no room to move or stand up. Regardless of what the response from the company was bad attitude should be called out and as I said previously I worked for the company and incidents like that are taken very seriously. I don't need to justify anything to you, my point is if she feels so strongly about it, contact the customer service or head office and let them deal with it. I could be a mystery shopper and the store could have failed miserably. If it makes you feel better that customers have ridiculous complaints that's your opinion.

Oh dear! I've not been to Aldi for years because I moved house...
But I went back today! The glorious Aisle of Wonder! 😍

If this Hair Repair doesn't work, I'm coming back at you MN's because someone from Aldi's marketing dept is obviously infiltrating us! 🤣

AVOID ALDI
