AVOID ALDI

I went to Anerley/Penge store yesterday to buy 5 x packs of new born baby nappies. The lady on the till rudely said I could only have 2 as it was 'against the rules to have more'! Didn't say what rules - and Act of Parliament, EU rules, FA rules but ignored my comment that the Aldi website says ‘Maximum Purchase Quantity - 15’. This is not a reference to the maximum number of individual nappies as most of the packs have over 15. The new born has 60. Two members of staff came over and told me very aggressively that if I didn’t like the policy I could leave and took away ALL the nappies so I was unable to buy any for the new born baby. I asked for their names but they refused. One had no badge and the other took their badge off. Fortunately, I was able to take video and some photos so they can be identified. Aldi have a very curious relationship with their customers. If you phone the Customer Service number there is a recorded message saying they are ‘not taking calls’. Aldi have AWFUL feedback on Trustpilot and I doubt anyone will bother to contact me - Lidl is the winner!

Ive worked in retail AND my family had a shop.
Im firmly Team ALDI.

ItGhoul · 21/02/2025 12:27

Why the fuck would I want to boycott a supermarket because you had some weird row about a packet of nappies?!

ThePoshUns · 21/02/2025 12:27

You're alright thanks. I didn't notice need to buy nappies. You do you though.

MuddyPawsIndoors · 21/02/2025 12:28

I feel so sorry for retail staff these days.

Before the rise of social media and emails etc, people would only complain about important things because it normally meant speaking to an actual person, either in store or on the telephone.

Now people get rude to staff when told something they don't want to hear, whip their phones out to video/intimidate and then hide behind their keypads, telling all of social media about it.

What short memories some people have, considering how many of those staff would've been risking their health during the COVID pandemic, to make sure we all had food.

No-one clapped them every night on their doorsteps either, instead a lot of people just got ruder and complained even more.

I’m here for the hair mask

Same. Had seen it but will definitely purchase now. The latest round of Lacura skin and hair care is really good, I love their illuminating moisturiser.

Sorry @Neadham222 , Aldi’s the nearest supermarket to my house so it will take a lot to stop me from going in.

CatCaretaker · 21/02/2025 12:28

😅

All this thread has managed to do is drum up more business for Aldi. Brilliant!

Agreed with above posters, multiple members of staff having to get involved (I've worked in a supermarket, very rare unless behaviour is truly awful), and them then being recorded. I'm with the poor staff on this one.

"That's it John, no more Aldi. A random on the internet had a row with one employee in one of their hundreds of shops and I am appalled!".

ChompandaGrazia · 21/02/2025 12:30

Nope. You’re ok thanks.

RainSpainPlane · 21/02/2025 12:30

I'm too busy enjoying Aldi roast chicken on Aldi Tiger Bread to give a fuck about your nappies OP.

gamerchick · 21/02/2025 12:09

Nah man, that new hair mask is a game changer for menopause hair. I haven't had such silky locks that behave themselves for years. YEARS.

I'm not giving that up because someone had a trolley load of cheap nappies.

Please tell me what magic hair mask this is!

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 21/02/2025 12:32

This is unhinged.

If there are 60 nappies in a pack, why in the world were you trying to buy five packs in the first place?

You know you'll probably need to size up by the time you've got through two packs, right?

RainSpainPlane · 21/02/2025 12:32

@iamme21 she's posted a picture on Page 1 of the thread.

Loveanewusername · 21/02/2025 12:32

I think they did you a favour. Your kid would be in size three before they shat through all of them 🤣

INeedAnotherName · 21/02/2025 12:34

They obviously thought you were going to sell them on for profit instead of for personal use. I can't believe you video'd them about it. How rude!

MargaretThursday · 21/02/2025 12:34

I think they realised that you were nesting, and decided to save you the expense and storage of all those nappies. I don't think any of mine, even the littlest, were in newborn nappies beyond a week. One of them never needed them and they were all around or below average weight.

PoltergeistsStartLowKey · 21/02/2025 12:35

sprigatito · 21/02/2025 12:12

What is the name of that hair mask, please? I'm desperate 😂

Me too. I look like a hay rick.

cardibach · 21/02/2025 12:36

I’ve just come from Aldi and all the staff were (as ever) lovely and helpful. It’s also cheap and good quality.
As others have said, you don’t need all those size 1 nappies for one baby - and certainly not all at once. You should just have bought the 2 they were allowing 🤷‍♀️

Over40Overdating · 21/02/2025 12:36

Based on an ALL CAPS TITLE and a blow by blow account of the ways you were wronged and how proud you are of recording staff trying to reason with you, I am going to shop twice as much in Aldi this weekend.

I will never be parted from their Jo Malone candle dupes and battered veggies sausages.

HoppingPavlova · 21/02/2025 12:36

I also don’t understand the issue. Unless you have triplets, you may well have been left with a few spare boxes/packs as they grow out of that size really really quickly.

overthinkingandworried · 21/02/2025 12:36

They should have at least let you buy the limit ?

Also what if someone has twins or triplets?

PoltergeistsStartLowKey · 21/02/2025 12:37

Ironic that OPs post has added customers after the hair mask. I've never been to Aldi as there isn't one near me but I'm going past one on the 12th.

Hdjdb42 · 21/02/2025 12:38

If I'd been told that I would have said okay and put one back. You still would have had 2 packs equalling 120 nappies. You could have picked up another 2 next time? Why did you feel the need to argue with everyone and start filming/taking photos?! You're crazy.

Snorlaxo · 21/02/2025 12:38

I feel sorry for the staff - even if they got the rule wrong.

It’s annoying that you couldn’t buy as many as you wanted but instead of accepting it and returning to get more later or dumping the nappies and buying elsewhere , you escalated it by filming and so on. If that’s the policy then it’s not the fault of the minimum wage staff who served you! Complain or get clarification on social media if you want (Aldi are very active on social media ) but you are being ridiculous kicking up a fuss.

Were they aggressive or just firm? I’ve worked retail and it’s normal for a second member of staff to help a colleague under attack. It sounds like you were very angry so repeating the same phrases as if you were an angry toddler is the most professional way that they could have dealt with you.

Digdongdoo · 21/02/2025 12:39

Why didn't you just buy fewer nappies? Even a newborn can't shit through 300 at once.

Ooh! I'll give it a whirl!
