Yesterday I entered the dark and mysterious world of PLAYMOBIL

dd1 was 4 yesterday and recieved a pony riding show ground box of wonderousness.

There are a lot of little bits though aren't there? And a small yellow minature screw driver that I am still unsure about.

I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama.

So I need tips.

Do you pack the kits away in special boxes or just let free mixing occur ?(I am a wee bit anal)

Are there any universal 'you must have this item' bits.

How long will this playmobil phase last? Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
There are an awful lot of little bits.

Yes - and some elves

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 22:39

It's this one

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 22:40

Oooh, that looks great!

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 22:42

guess what is going on SoMuch's DS's Christmas list this year...

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 22:43

Thank you ladies for a most informative and entertaining evening.

I am completely hooked now and raring to set forth on a playmobil purchasing bonanda.

Night

Actually, I don't think there's much hope of getting that - there are so many things I ds already wants!

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 22:45

I am not sure what a bonanda is, but I am setting forth on one.

There is bound to be a bonanda playmobil set available somewhere........

Do report back with your purchases, slubber! I must got to bed soon (after I have put Norman and Brian to bed in the construction crew's office).

Squirdle · 08/04/2008 22:47

Ooh I like the Santa house lots!

I want the house because with 3 boys I can't get a real dolls house and figured the Plymobil one would be a legitimate way of getting one.

I also want a nun and a portaloo

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 22:50

I have sort of managed with a boy by getting a fire station and the family vacation home (that's not quite so dolls-housy).

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 22:50

The portaloo is great!

Squirdle · 08/04/2008 22:59

Hmm yes the vacation house probably is better and the boys have the beach set thing with lifeguards, dolphin, jetski etc etc oh and tons of silly little fish and shells!

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 23:02

You can cook the fish from the beach set on the barbecue that comes with the family vacation home!

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 23:07

Santa just invites the barbeque man around when Mrs Santa says it is too hot for the aga.

"I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama"
Slubbers you are so polite - the cargo ship is currently beached on top of the iceberg whilst the pirates battle it out with the romans, and yes, BBQ man is keeping everyone fed with the help of campervan mummy.

We have a tent, it came with the dinosaur hunters and is suitable for artic conditions. It has a SIG, of course, and a cloth sleeping bag.

Did you get the answer to your question about missing bits? They can be ordered from playmobil website. Chances of realising anything is missing - in my house 0%, your house this week 99%, next week and until you want to flog it all on ebay 49%.

Last night I watched a programme about Di & Dodi, and the Parisian chief of police had a playmo police fifure on gher desk . So this morning i pinched an little engineer for my desk

ChippyMinton · 09/04/2008 08:17

playmo police figure on her desk

stealthsquiggle · 09/04/2008 08:23

I am now contemplating what Playmobil figure I could appropriately pinch for my desk.

[sigh] no wonder my DM periodically asks "what is it you do, exactly?" - if there isn't a Playmobil figure of you it clearly isn't a 'real' job.

FunkyGlassSocks · 09/04/2008 08:48

I am now tempted to pinch the lady from the Blue Marlin for my computer desk

Squirdle · 09/04/2008 08:49

I really do need the hospital then if we need our own figures!

I'm off to Sainsburys this morning to see if they have any sale playmobil left...bet they don't! Hope they have a nun

Fish on the BBQ - fabulous. A legitimate reason for buying the vacation home methinks!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 09/04/2008 09:29

Talking of fish, there used to be a pirate fishing from a rowing boat, and the fish had little magnets in them so he could catch them.

I once took a visiting American friend to a toyshop with a good range of Playmobil and she left with a load of Vikings for herself (Viking archaeologist) and the Three Wise Men for her husband (vicar).

magso · 09/04/2008 09:30

Slubber - you can order almost all parts from playmobil(address in sets) it helps to know the part number (in the instructions) . Takes a while to come as sent from Germany. Postage is around £4 (the little bits are pennies each) so its worth saving up your order IYKWIM.
Has anyone else visited a playmobil fun centre (Paris/Malta/Germany)? The one in Paris is just off the southern outer ring road (A186/A10)and makes a reasonable stop for dcs in need of R&R, before heading southwest. Cafe basic, but can buy 'add on' sets, not lost parts. Warehouse type shopping zone so not for drivers new to French driving!
Ds loves the stuff - it started with a pirate obsession (ships everywhere), through castles and now the western theme! (Nothing peaceful!) Given a catamaran Ds quickly devided it in 2, and used as PeterPan dagers! It is robust enough for heavyhanded Ds (sn).
I store the little bits in transparent labled boxes for later when the accessories are appreciated.

MerlinsBeard · 09/04/2008 09:36

we have just got into playmobil (or mobilo as ds1 calls it) thanks to sainsburys and a generous uncle at xmas!

DS1 has the camper van with the teeny tiny tins etc and he will sit for literally HOURS playing with it - he is coming up 5. ds2 has selected bits as he is only 3 and a bugger for losing things but even he will sit and play nicely with it. can see us collecting this for a while. Although i do seem to have more torches than actual ppl

MrsBadger · 09/04/2008 09:38

why are there no Playmobil scientists?

Oliveoil · 09/04/2008 09:45

where is the best place to buy Playmobil then?

we don't have any

magso · 09/04/2008 09:47

There are some palaeontologists with the dinosaur ice kits!
