Yesterday I entered the dark and mysterious world of PLAYMOBIL

dd1 was 4 yesterday and recieved a pony riding show ground box of wonderousness.

There are a lot of little bits though aren't there? And a small yellow minature screw driver that I am still unsure about.

I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama.

So I need tips.

Do you pack the kits away in special boxes or just let free mixing occur ?(I am a wee bit anal)

Are there any universal 'you must have this item' bits.

How long will this playmobil phase last? Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
There are an awful lot of little bits.

Got it - Thanks - £8.50 - bargain. Except that DH would view it as incitement to camping so it's probably not worth the hassle.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 22:07

We have the Roman tent - good for the commander to sit in his nice chair with a drink while everyone else does the work, but probably not great for family camping.

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 22:11

I'm quite sure I actually have to have the ebay camping set now.

Because my pony girls are going to be going on gymkhanas, but their parents are very poor (waht with the mortgage and the tax on the 4x4 and the cost of riding lessons these days). So they will have to camp, and have hot chocolate in the mornings, out of the thermos.

I bought a motorboat with waterskis recently on ebay - it came with a thermos and sandwich box. Ideal for Norman if he has to go somewhere without tea-making facilities.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 22:14

You will be needing 4189 Horse Trailer to get them there then Slubber - unless you can get ponies into the vet's pig trailer (4495)

Not to mention the dressage set (4185)

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 22:18

stealth, you are slightly alarming me now. Do you have a playmobil catalogue by your loo? You seem very at home with their range of products.

Anchovy · 08/04/2008 22:20

Ah Slubbers, once you are gripped by the playmobil world you will be here for ever.

It is, frankly, beyond brilliant - well made, witty, practical, ingenious. It is the one toy - well, maybe lego as well - that the DCs have gone back to time and time again - they get completely absorbed by it and will play for literally hours (how good does that sound?).

Coming straight after an extended Thomas the Farking Tank Engine stage, it is also actually huge fun for adults as well.

Mixing it up is the whole point - we like to have the trebuchet strafe-ing the mother and baby on the bike while the Magnificant Lady quaffs a large goblet of wine. We also like making about 60 figures (including horses, dragons etc) line up behind the portaloo and pretending they are at Glastonbury,

Its also brilliant as it starts at about 99p and goes up to about £150 - something for every price range - when anyone asks what your DCs want, you can always say - oh, just get them some playmobil.

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 22:21

We seem to have several copies of the Playmobil catalogue. And very well-thumbed they are too - ds and I are quite familiar with their products!

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 22:22

Just the website - we only have playmobil catalogues all over the house when DS is writing his birthday/christmas lists, and it's not that time of year!

(in my pathetic defence, I knew about the pig trailer because we have it (DS saved up for it!) and the dressage set came up when I was looking for a pony trailer for your new friends)

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 22:23

Quite agree with Anchovy - most of ds's birthday and Christmas lists are made up of Playmobil sets.

robinpud · 08/04/2008 22:23

your pony girls can bunk in with my vikings in their tent slub .. we don't mind getting cosy with the pony club gels

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 22:24

PMSL at the dragon queuing for the loo - surely he could queue-jump?

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 22:24

Anchovy . Playmobil had me when snooks said earlier in the thread

"We have a nun, no idea why or where she came from, or what kit she would belong to.... she seems to have mislaid her bible and is often to be found driving a tractor courtesy of ds2 "

That's exactly the sort of thing that is going to get me back in the playroom.

OP posts:
SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 22:26

You realy need to get a few more sets for you your dd to play with. It's much better when you can mix and match them.

Anchovy · 08/04/2008 22:27

The camper van is fun - all nifty little bunks and hidden loo. However I did point out that the knights should be off doing something a bit more valiant than loafing around in the camper van with its array of tinned food in the galley.

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 22:28

SoMuch, you are right. I will be heading off with dd1's birthday money this week to buy me her some more kit.

I am watching that camping set on ebay so none of you lot better bid on it.

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 22:31

A camper van sounds like an eminently sensible way of getting to a crusade.

We have an over-policing problem in our house (17 at last count!) - they interfere in everything and keep arresting the dragon just as he is in middle of a good scrap.

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 22:31

Don't worry, we are going to buy the tent from the direct service catalogue.

Has anyone else got the family vacation home? We think that is rather good - it comes with a barbecue and a football.

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 22:32

No - but we have Santa's holiday home (complete with Aga) and he lets it out when he is not using it.

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 22:32

Perhaps you could send us some police, then - we are a bit short of them, but oversupplied with firefighters, even though some of them are currently pretending to be lifeboat men.

Slubberdegullion · 08/04/2008 22:34

Santa has an AGA

good grief I have died and gone to plastic toy heaven.

OP posts:
stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 22:34

I was just about to say we had no firefighters but then I remembered that we do in fact have a fire Landrover, trailer, and associated personnel

stealthsquiggle · 08/04/2008 22:35

Not only an Aga, but trays of pizza and croissants to cook in it.

I suspect it is really Mrs Santa's Aga, though.

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 22:36

Ah, just a few firefighters then! We even have a great set I got on eBay, which I think was mostly only sold in America, which has a house front on fire, with a woman and cat to be rescued as well as firefighters, hoses etc.

SoMuchToBits · 08/04/2008 22:37

Stealth, is there a Mrs Santa in the set too?
