Yesterday I entered the dark and mysterious world of PLAYMOBIL

dd1 was 4 yesterday and recieved a pony riding show ground box of wonderousness.

There are a lot of little bits though aren't there? And a small yellow minature screw driver that I am still unsure about.

I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama.

So I need tips.

Do you pack the kits away in special boxes or just let free mixing occur ?(I am a wee bit anal)

Are there any universal 'you must have this item' bits.

How long will this playmobil phase last? Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
There are an awful lot of little bits.

I see - will you have to start a completely new Championship, or just start again from where they left off before the evil stag attack?

I think you have been hooked by Playmobil already (Roman Senators for the desk!)

Didn't take long, did it?

stealthsquiggle · 17/04/2008 10:58

SoMuch - in an effort at economy, our policemen allow their cell to be used as an emergency hospital, as we had the same problem (rescue helicopter -> ambulance -> then what). Of course, in the case of the arena, the patient is often the lion or the tiger in which case they can be taken to the farm (where the vet runs his clinic).

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/04/2008 10:59

So tell us about this Giant Stag.... I am assuming he was from another realm of existence altogether (ie not Playmobil).

stealthsquiggle · 17/04/2008 10:59

There are archeologists - of a sort - artic ones, I think (we don't have them)

If Effie gets her library, I will be needing some sort of IT/Office environment.

SoMuchToBits · 17/04/2008 11:00

Ok then:-

Scientists
Archaeologists
Museum
Library
Lifeboats
Lighthouse (with swarthy keeper)
Hotel

What else?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/04/2008 11:01

They're sort of palaeontologists in the Arctic - what I was thinking of was archaeologists with trowels and wheelbarrows who dig up old vases and skeletons.

EffiePerine · 17/04/2008 11:02

We could have a Heritage Centre - Library, Archive and Museum combined with natty microfilm readers and white gloves

SoMuchToBits · 17/04/2008 11:02

Next year there will be proper vets' stuff, Stealth (check out the German Playmobil website)!

Slubberdegullion · 17/04/2008 11:03

lol SoMuch, yup I'm hooked. dd2 is sat on my knee atm leafing through the catalogue. She is quite taken with the forest animals (esp baby deer with poorly leg)

SoMuchToBits · 17/04/2008 11:04

Actually, I have just thought that ds would love some Playmobil cricketers! Not sure that we could persuade German company to go for that though - cricket isn't very popular in most European countries.

stealthsquiggle · 17/04/2008 11:04

A proper lab would be cool - it could be physics/chemistry/teaching/CSI as needed.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/04/2008 11:05

Effie - oh, definitely. Complete with middle-aged Playmobil American researching his family tree.

Slubberdegullion · 17/04/2008 11:06

Kathy the Giant Stag is from another plastic figures world (car boot sale). He is hideously large and menacing. He is the monster of choice here.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/04/2008 11:06

Maybe they could do one cricketer as a special and you could swap the heads round to make a team

SoMuchToBits · 17/04/2008 11:07

Well, to answer your questions in the OP, slubber -

Q.How long will this playmobil phase last?
A.An awful long time.

Q. Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
A. Ohhhhh, YES!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/04/2008 11:07

LOL Slubber, when we were children our playmobil people used to get attacked by the Giant Yellow Bear (aka Sooty).

SoMuchToBits · 17/04/2008 11:09

Hmm, Kathy, it's a bit difficult to play cricket with one cricketer at a time! Don't think ds would accept that somehow.

And we'd need a cricket pitch, and stumps, and a pavilion (perhaps Norman could help with making the tea???)

SoMuchToBits · 17/04/2008 11:11

Norman and his friends were attacked the other day by a Lego Bionicle....

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/04/2008 11:11

No SoMuch, I meant, you buy lots and then swap the heads (or at least hair) round with other Playmobil people so they are all different.

SoMuchToBits · 17/04/2008 11:13

Oh, I see Kathy! I still think they should do a whole set of cricketers (and don't forget the umpires!)

Slubberdegullion · 17/04/2008 11:16

I wonder if a Roman Gladius would double as a cricket bat?

Oh I have another question. How do the Advent Calendars work then? I remember seeing one at Chippy's (that her DC were not allowed to touch iirc) but i was too hungover from Christmas meetup to be playing close attention.

OP posts:
SoMuchToBits · 17/04/2008 11:21

Not too sure Slubber - we haven't had a Playmobil one. Last year we had a Lego City one which was brill!

I think with the Playmobil ones you have to set it up first, and there are little boxes (one for each day) with a small item in each, and you can gradually make a scene with them all. But as I say, we haven't had one ourselves.

pofaced · 17/04/2008 11:25

The Advent Calendars are fab: we've had ours for 6 years and it is as much pasrt of Christmas as the tree. There are 24 little Playmobil figures (in our one it's animals and animal troughs and food as it's a forest scene) plus sleigh plus santa. Each item (s) goes in a numbered box which hangs on a cardboard scene and then each day a box is opened and the animal/ food is put on another piece of flat cardboard. Our backing cardboard is of snowy trees/ forest and the base is a "forest floor". By Christmas Eve we have deer/ mice/ fox/ carrots/ troughs and Santa and his sleigh.... at this stage the kids know which one goes in which box but we have kept the instructions... and the cardboard base/ backing scene have proved to be very robust. It's a lovely thing to have/ give as a present in late November

Playmobil Rocks!

Slubberdegullion · 17/04/2008 11:29

Oh that sounds so lovely pofaced. I am looking at the 4 different choices of calendar now, the animals/santa one you describe is there.

OK I'll need that for Christmas.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 17/04/2008 11:40

I want a proper Xmas crib advent calendar, with Mary & Joseph and baby Jesus, but I'm not sure they do one
