Yesterday I entered the dark and mysterious world of PLAYMOBIL

dd1 was 4 yesterday and recieved a pony riding show ground box of wonderousness.

There are a lot of little bits though aren't there? And a small yellow minature screw driver that I am still unsure about.

I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama.

So I need tips.

Do you pack the kits away in special boxes or just let free mixing occur ?(I am a wee bit anal)

Are there any universal 'you must have this item' bits.

How long will this playmobil phase last? Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
There are an awful lot of little bits.

Well, come on then, Slubber - haven't you actually bought any more yet??????????

We are all curious (at least I am...)

DrNortherner · 13/04/2008 20:45

My sd got the police station for his birthday and he loves it. It even has a robber and a jail and handcuffs and guns and everything

DrNortherner · 13/04/2008 20:45

ds not sd

Slubberdegullion · 13/04/2008 20:46

I ordered the catalogue a few days ago, so we are (all) waiting in eager anticipation. Dh has stated that whatever the dds end up getting he needs a pirate.

When did we all start needing playmobil???

I showed dd1 the ebay camping set and she was less than excited . I also tried to talk her round to the delights of having a few pirates, or even an aeroplane, she was having none of it (it being "boys stuff")

I may have to remove the princess castle pages in the catalogue before showing her. We already have the duplo princess castle set.

OP posts:
MilaMae · 13/04/2008 22:13

Do remove the princess castle page.

Dd, ds1 and ds2 and I were flicking though the catalogue mid bath session (dh not impressed)dd saw it, cue cries of wonder, it took a lot of effort for me to stear her back to the new ice cream parlour super set complete with tiny ice cream cones which is what she actually needs.

Dt1 is working towards the combine harvester -with baling capabilities!!!!!!! So excited not sure I can wait until Sep which is probably how long it's going to take him to earn it. May have to speed things up on the sticker chart front

Incidentally anybody got the castle? What is a good age to get the most out of it? My 2boys kind of hinted towards it for Xmas to share.

SoMuchToBits · 13/04/2008 22:25

Well, my ds started on Playmobil at 5 (although, had I known then what I know now, I would have got him some at 3 or 4 ), but he is now 7 and heavily into it. And I think he will be for a few years yet!

Dh s seem to fall into two categories - the type (like mine) who are not terribly interested and think we have far too much already, or the type (like ds's friend's dad) where you give the ds some Playmobil as a birthday present, and the dad has it out of the boxand is playing with it before the son can get to it!

MerlinsBeard · 14/04/2008 09:57

theres a combine harvester???

Soooo glad DS1 isn't reading this thread...he would have choked!! He Loves combines (wierd child )

please link so i don't have to drool over toys

we don't want playmobil in this house either we NEED it

LIZS · 14/04/2008 09:59

dd needs the new pony ranch and by extension the farm.... We already have a horse shower , bought in Switzerland about a year ago.

Squirdle · 14/04/2008 11:59

Oh yes, Playmobil is a neccesity!

DH isn't that interested, though they do have motorcycle racing track which we may have to get as that is DH's first love (much more so than me ) Do you think I'd get away with getting it for Fathers Day? Also if they had a Martial Arts set he would become v. v. interested methinks.

It was my twin nephews who started me off. They have lots and lots of it, police and fire sets galore and many other things including tree house etc etc. I'd always thought it was too fiddly and expensive until we went to see them sometime last year and all four boys played with it for ages! So did I, but I was getting because I was ooohing and aaahing at the teeny tiny plates and cups etc with the camper van

Squirdle · 14/04/2008 11:59

The twins are getting on for 8 and still love it!

FunkyGlassSocks · 14/04/2008 12:04

Can I get a playmobil person with a computer? i think DH might like that

BettySpaghetti · 14/04/2008 13:37

Theres a laptop that comes with Norman and co. (its the crane set that has the Portacabin, Portaloo etc so quite expensive just to get a lap-top )

I'm sure someone in the know will let you know about any others

belgo · 14/04/2008 13:44

playmobil office

FunkyGlassSocks · 14/04/2008 13:58

belgo - that is so ace.

Now, how on earth do I get it as I can only seem to find on US and DE sites???

belgo · 14/04/2008 14:00

here it is on the UK site

SoMuchToBits · 14/04/2008 14:01

Ah yes, we have the office (Bossy Ross the fireboat captain lifeboat coxswain needs it for the office in his fire station lifeboat station.

SoMuchToBits · 14/04/2008 14:02

It is in the Direct Service part of the UK catalogue.

SoMuchToBits · 14/04/2008 14:18

I have put some pictures of Norman and his mates on my profile.

BettySpaghetti · 14/04/2008 14:35

lol SoMuchToBits! I can tell you've obviously not got a lot done today as you've been too busy playing with and photographing Playmobil

As I type, our Norman is having a quick sleep on the top bunk in the site office

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 14/04/2008 14:37

can I just pop into this thread to say thank you.

Have been looking at the word PLAYMOBIL in the thread title for days, so when dd2 just told me that her nursery today didn't have any mobalo I was able to fairly easily translate this into the word 'playmobil' because it was on my mind because of you lot.

So ta

MerlinsBeard · 14/04/2008 15:00

ds1 calls it mobilo as well Squonk

MrsMattie · 14/04/2008 15:02

This thread had no relevance to my life until this weekend, when my mum bought DS two Playmobil sets. How bloody odd are they? One comprises of two strange Germanic looking children who drag a cart around selling watermelon and corn on the cob (Urrr....why?). The other comprises of an adult man driving a speedboat and a small girl with full diving gear. And a dog. WTF.

Slubberdegullion · 14/04/2008 15:23

lol SoMuch, I love your Norman & friends photos.

Now should I go and attend to the post painting mess and parephanalia that is currently all over my breakfast room table or am I going to set up the pony girls for a photo shoot

OP posts:
Kathyis6incheshigh · 14/04/2008 15:43

Great to finally see Norman the foreman, having heard so much about him

SoMuchToBits · 14/04/2008 15:46

Our Norman is currently boiling the kettle in the family vacation home!

I actually took the pictures at the weekend, but have only put them on my profile today. Perhaps I will take some more. I'll have to see what Norman would like to do next!
