Yesterday I entered the dark and mysterious world of PLAYMOBIL

dd1 was 4 yesterday and recieved a pony riding show ground box of wonderousness.

There are a lot of little bits though aren't there? And a small yellow minature screw driver that I am still unsure about.

I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama.

So I need tips.

Do you pack the kits away in special boxes or just let free mixing occur ?(I am a wee bit anal)

Are there any universal 'you must have this item' bits.

How long will this playmobil phase last? Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
There are an awful lot of little bits.

Car would be good without the flowers Mrs B! Norman might like it!

Mila Mae, usually the stuff which is new in Germany this year reaches us next year, so hopefully vet stuff should be available in UK next year at some point.

SoMuchToBits · 11/04/2008 21:08

Benson - the Playmobil catalogue is essential reading in the SoMuch household (at least to two of its members - dh doesn't really get Playmobil!)

IdrisTheDragon · 11/04/2008 21:12

DS, DD and I were reading the playmobil catalogue yesterday (reading in my case only but much enjoyment all round).

DS was looking at the Fun in Fairyland pages and looked in a way as he said "but what would you do with those - they don't do anything" .

He's a construction, pirate and hopeful of police and fire type of boy

Kathyis6incheshigh · 11/04/2008 21:18

We have a playmobil catalogue which dd (2.10) decided is her magazine - whenever dh and I are being boring and reading magazines she sits there with her catalogue. We used to try fobbing her off with the bits of the newspaper we didn't want (pull-out computer adverts, property section) but the Playmobil catalogue is much better at grabbing her attention. She is still in a state of primordial innocence though - she doesn't realise they are toys that she could have if she nagged me enough

SoMuchToBits · 11/04/2008 21:18

My ds is also mystified by the fairy stuff, but we did get it for his "girlfriend" for her birthday - she is also a Playmo fan, but prefers the girly stuff. She loves coming to our house as it is such a Playmo paradise. This week she really enjoyed playing with the family vacation home and beach sets!

SoMuchToBits · 11/04/2008 21:19

Oooh, just you wait a couple of years, Kathy!!

IdrisTheDragon · 11/04/2008 21:23

Just looked at the playmobil parks - I see there is one near Paris

MerlinsBeard · 11/04/2008 21:23

DP wants to go to playmobil land without the DS's!!!

SoMuchToBits · 11/04/2008 21:24

Ds has no interest at all in going to Disneyland etc.....but would love a PlaymoPark!

TotalChaos · 11/04/2008 21:28

in light of that post mumofmonsters, PMSL at the note on the athens playmobil fun park page that children should be accompanied by an adult during their Fun park visit.

SoMuchToBits · 11/04/2008 21:35

I can hardly wait to find out what Slubber buys next!

suzi2 · 11/04/2008 21:51

I was thinking about getting some for DS who is 2.8. Only problem is DD is 14 months and will stick anything in her mouth. Are the bits "chokeable" size or are they small and smooth enough to safely pass through

SoMuchToBits · 11/04/2008 22:01

Hmmmm.... some of them are chokeable, I'm afraid, so maybe you will have to wait a while.

You could always get some Playmobil 123 in the meantime (suitable and safe for the younger one, but not so interesting for the older one).

Kathyis6incheshigh · 11/04/2008 22:03

Someone once suggested supergluing some of the chokeable bits in position.
I'm planning to do something similar when I get some for dcs (I have 16 mo ds as well as 2.10 dd) .... go through and take out or glue anything dangerous.

FunkyGlassSocks · 11/04/2008 22:16

where can i get a playmobil catalogue then?

SoMuchToBits · 11/04/2008 22:30

Most reasonable toyshops, or failing that get on the Playmobil website, and see if you can request a catalogue.

You will not regret it!!

Squirdle · 12/04/2008 10:47

D'you know, I love the way a playmobil thraed has 350 odd posts

Squirdle · 12/04/2008 10:54

The boys have been reading the catalogue this morning. Apparently we need all the fire things, the forest set, the remote controlled stuff and the tent.

DH has been lying next to them muttering Poor thing is tired after a week of Martial Arts and wants sympathy that he isn't getting He was playing all week (with DS1 who is 14) while I looked after the boys alone, I'm the one who is tired

I wouldn't buy Playmobil for a child under 3 really. I do think 3 is the limit. DS3 got the farm for his 3rd birthday, simply because I wanted to get him a farm and the playmobil one looked the best. But he did (and still does) pull it apart lots and there are so many bits.

MerlinsBeard · 12/04/2008 11:55

i would get it for under 3s either. having said that ds2 is only just 3 and i had to get him his own to stop him wrecking ds1s camper van!

He is still banned from playing the camper van (ds1 v protectove over it) but will know mow down pirates with his police quad bike

that reminds me, we got him some more for his birthday (half price at sainsbo ) and never did give it him.......

SoMuchToBits · 12/04/2008 14:05

my dh is always saying we need to move to a bigger house, to accommodate all ds's Playmobil. He can't believe there are still items -I- ds wants...

SoMuchToBits · 12/04/2008 14:08

Norman the foreman is going to visit some friends this afternoon - we are going round to one of ds's friends who also has the construction crew and office. I said to ds how will we tell Norman apart from his look-alike friend, but ds said Norman will have to hold his teacup and kettle all the time, so we won't get them mixed up!

MerlinsBeard · 13/04/2008 13:23

does anyone have the paddle boat? does it really float? have got it for ds for his b'day and if it does i will go back and get one for ds2 as well

SoMuchToBits · 13/04/2008 16:40

We have the paddle boat. It floats.

MerlinsBeard · 13/04/2008 19:04

thank you

Slubberdegullion · 13/04/2008 20:36

I know this v enlightening and entertaining thread has probably done its MN time, but I just had to give you guys an update.

Today at my mothers house the dds were watching one of the sky childrens tv channels

AND ON COMES AN AD FOR THE PLAYMOBIL PONYFARM SET

(stables galore)

We all sat entranced, and at the end dd1 turns to me and says

"mummy I think I am going to need to have that"

Oh yes, indeed you are my darling, we are both going to need to get quite a lot more Playmobil
