Yesterday I entered the dark and mysterious world of PLAYMOBIL

dd1 was 4 yesterday and recieved a pony riding show ground box of wonderousness.

There are a lot of little bits though aren't there? And a small yellow minature screw driver that I am still unsure about.

I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama.

So I need tips.

Do you pack the kits away in special boxes or just let free mixing occur ?(I am a wee bit anal)

Are there any universal 'you must have this item' bits.

How long will this playmobil phase last? Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
There are an awful lot of little bits.

Yes, a modern one, with a light that really flashes, and a helicopter landing pad, and rocks etc.....

SoMuchToBits · 11/04/2008 10:25

was this the vintage car?

I think Norman could get used to that level of luxury!

taipo · 11/04/2008 10:43

I think I have just hoovered up a playmobil bit in dd's room

Dd got the vet's surgery recently which was her first proper set and has played with it loads. Then neighbour's dd decided to bring over her playmobil stuff and they've mixed it all up. Aaaargh!

I think I need to set up a system.

SoMuchToBits · 11/04/2008 10:55

I try not to let ds take his Playmobil round to friends' houses unless it is a large item, e.g. a vehicle, but not all the little accessories, as they do get mixed up.

MrsBadger · 11/04/2008 11:04

I'm sure Normal could take the flowers off...

Slubberdegullion · 11/04/2008 11:14

Kathy, re your bearded lighthouse keeper. Upon closer inspection of the pyramid movie, I suspect those tomb raiders have detachable beards, so I suppose you could make anyone (even the nun) bearded. A nautical hat and I reckon bob's your uncle.

They would be swarthy lighthouse keepers mind, not your Captain Birds Eye type.

MrsB, the wedding set is deeply horrid (imo ). I would only get it if I could be assured that the dd's would set up a pirate attack on the wedding party and abscond with the bride and matron of honour.

I bet there is a market for all the wedding stuff, though, because people probably buy them as presents for their bridesmaids/page boys!

Slubber - it used to be that they had to have extra little notches in their heads to wear beards.
Swarthy would be fine for a lighthouse keeper, because he would be deeply tanned from all the wind and weather.

MrsBadger · 11/04/2008 11:42

oh I thought so too

but I wondered if Norman had a builder's nouveau eye for bling...

(great idea re buying them for bridesmaids etc better than the blardy white leather bible)

MrsBadger · 11/04/2008 11:43

[ponders wisdom of buying the church as a christening present...]

Kathyis6incheshigh · 11/04/2008 11:46

I do wish the church was an old stone one with proper stained glass windows with stained glass Playmobil saints.

Thing is, then it would have done for knights and pirates as well as modern stuff.

MrsBadger · 11/04/2008 11:48

hmm

they haven't quite got their optimum overlaps sorted out have they?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 11/04/2008 11:54

Nope. Though Romans/Egyptians will work well together.

I remember one time when they were doing Vikings and Native Americans they put them on facing pages of the catalogue so it showed the Vikings arriving in America, about which there is a little bit of debate among archaeologists Neatly done, I thought.

MrsBadger · 11/04/2008 12:06

am looking forward to a bit of Antony & Cleopatra action...

Bensonbluebird · 11/04/2008 12:29

Ah playmobil, slobber...
Just bought DS1 an aeroplane and fire rescue set from the delightfully named 'Scratch and Dent' sale (stuff in damaged boxes) about half price! I now realise where half the stuff on ebay comes from.

DS1's current favourite viewing is the airport movie.

Raggydoll · 11/04/2008 12:49

Is scratch and dent a internet shop? If so can we have a link please it sounds great.

Raggydoll · 11/04/2008 12:51

btw, we started with the fire and rescue set which is great for younger children (ds was 3), we now have police station which is good and takealong dolls house, which is good value but not played with as much.

Can we do recommendations please. Especially those of you that have tons, if you could only have one....

Bensonbluebird · 11/04/2008 13:00

I got the Scratch and dent sale list when I sent for a catalogue. The catalogue is worth having in itself. DP has been seen reading it in bed.

MerlinsBeard · 11/04/2008 13:04

since i read this thread i have been searching ebay for bargains...i bid on a huge boz full of stuff (recycle van, construction vehicle animals, people blah blah) Thank GOD i was outbid, i got carried away and bid more than i can afford and i haven;t any space anyway!!!*(And they only accept paypal which i haven;t got!)

MerlinsBeard · 11/04/2008 13:06

i think legoland would be cheaper...seeing as how i wouldn't have to pay for flights and accomadtion lol!

MimieD · 11/04/2008 14:21

Does anyone have the Animal Hospital set? Not sure how new it is...

MrsBadger · 11/04/2008 14:27

the Vet sets are spanky new afaik - only on th German site, not the UK one yet

2boyzmum · 11/04/2008 15:28

We have the tool box, we have a larger box, but the pieces invariably end up on the carpet and sleep there over night. So what I do is pick up the corners of the carpet and shake all bits and pieces into the middle. At least then I won't trip over them at night. My boys don't mind, they enjoy searching for stuff, obviously.

MilaMae · 11/04/2008 17:11

So when do we get the stuff on the German site??? Just had a quick shifty and the new house has even got a miniature Noah's Ark-with teeny tiny animals!!!!!!!!!!

Squirdle · 11/04/2008 17:53

2boyzmum, I hope you don't have fitted carpets then
