Yesterday I entered the dark and mysterious world of PLAYMOBIL

dd1 was 4 yesterday and recieved a pony riding show ground box of wonderousness.

There are a lot of little bits though aren't there? And a small yellow minature screw driver that I am still unsure about.

I have a lasting memory of entering Chippy's ds's bedroom and the whole room was a giant playmobil diorama.

So I need tips.

Do you pack the kits away in special boxes or just let free mixing occur ?(I am a wee bit anal)

Are there any universal 'you must have this item' bits.

How long will this playmobil phase last? Will I be buying a lot more of this stuff?
There are an awful lot of little bits.

LOL - I once thought it would be a good idea to go through the catalogue with my nephew, asking him what he would like for Xmas. He pointed to EVERYTHING except the stuff on pink pages - magic castle and dollhouse - then, after some thought, turned back to the magic castle and said 'Actually I would quite like this too.'

Oliveoil · 09/04/2008 11:22

5 and 3

we are drowning in Polly Pocket and Ponyville and My Little Pony and dolls houses atm

but could maybe squeeze in some playmobil

actually we have a rabbit toadstool thing with a school iirc

will have a look on the PM site and see if it is PM

SoMuchToBits · 09/04/2008 11:26

5 and 3 - well, they will be playing with it for at least the next 5 years, then, if not more. So all you need to do is point out to your dh what a good investment it will be as it will be played with for absolutely years. Then he's bound to agree. And it's so much more fun for the adults than my little ponies etc.

Oliveoil · 09/04/2008 11:28

I can't search on the PM site, it refuses to find rabbit schoool

SoMuchToBits · 09/04/2008 11:38

I'll try to do a link, although last time I tried one from the Playmobil website it didn't work.

hopefully bunny school!

SoMuchToBits · 09/04/2008 11:39

Ah, same problem as last time!

If you go to Playmobil website, click for UK version, then click Products, then find Bunnies, it will be in there.

Oliveoil · 09/04/2008 11:43

this is ours! we do have playmobil, sooooo, I can say we are ADDING to stuff we ALREADY have to dh

MrsBadger · 09/04/2008 11:45

now how come easter bunnies have science lessons and yet there are no scientists? eh? eh?

Oliveoil · 09/04/2008 11:47

that is the same as mine MrsB

the benches live with Polly Pocket iirc and we have lost the purple cabbages

SoMuchToBits · 09/04/2008 11:58

I'd go ahead and buy some more then, OliveOil!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 09/04/2008 12:59

According to the website, their schoolhouse is a fly agaric.
I hope in their science lesson they are learning that they mustn't bite bits off their schoolhouse, no matter how hungry they are, because it is a deadly poison.

In fact, maybe that is why there are no adult playmobil bunny scientists.

haven't read all the thread but Playmobil is the bane of my life! My DS aged 4 recieved all of my DH's playmobil via Granny about 6 months ago(30 plus years old) and he is utterly obsessed, especially with the cowboys and indians set which is neigh on impossible to find!! (If anyone has any they would love to sell to me please let me know!!)

We have to scour charity shops or ebay for any that appears.........

As for keeping it all together, I have lumped all the big bits into a plastic box(tesco) that stays under the bed and then all the men and accesories go into another.....seems to work in our house!!!

This has been such a great thread.

I told DH about it this morning at breakfast. He initially started out with his usual 'DH MN ' look but by the end he was very animated.

The story of the suspended portaloo and unsuspecting victims pleased him greatly, as did the tractor driving Nun and the characters queueing for the lav at Glastonbury.

I think he is on side.

The great playmobil purchasing will now commence.

We love Playmobil. DS2's favourite reading at the moment is the catalogue. He keeps showing me what he wants for his birthday which is basically everything except the pink castle. I told him it would be quicker if he told me all the things he doesn't want.

This thread has reminded me that I have been meaning to get the safe crackers for ages so will go and look on ebay as we have the rest of the police stuff.

My two problems with are that they treat it like Lego, take it apart and then struggle to get it back together again as the bigger stuff requires a team of engineers, let alone a 4 yo boy and secondly the teeny tiny size of some of the bits, particularly the diddy mobile phones and guns you get with the police station. I am paranoid about hoovering them up.

It has hours of entertainment though.

"Talking of fish, there used to be a pirate fishing from a rowing boat, and the fish had little magnets in them so he could catch them"

Kathy we have that . And a submarine.

For Playmobil newbies can I strongly advise that you buy a kitchen-sink type strainer for your bath plughole before letting any boats take to sea. I refused point blank to dismantle dodgy plumbing to rescue a diver's flipper, so he had to swim in circles until the replacement (pair!) arrived.

I have to say to date Playmobil have not charged me at all for single small parts - sent free of charge - so maybe not such a great idea to save the orders up?

dozymare · 09/04/2008 19:32

Califrau - do you confiscate as you don't agree with playing with guns etc......

Kathyis6incheshigh · 09/04/2008 19:34

Because pirates were nasty, violent people. If the Playmobil pirates didn't have so many weapons it would be a travesty of historical truth.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 09/04/2008 19:35

In fact, they could do a modern pirate ship to capture the container ship and steal their passports.

dozymare · 09/04/2008 19:39

it's an interesting point....as I said earlier, my DS is utterly obsessed with the cowboys and indians....got all manner of guns, bows and arrows etc and TBH never crossed my mind to stop him playing with them....He also dresses up as a cowboy (most of the day!) and has lots of guns.....again, I didn't even think about the implications, although it does make sense now as one mum said to me in the park "I don't let my son have guns" I am curious as to the reason why....(I am guessing it is all to do with gun culture???)

Slubberdegullion · 09/04/2008 20:29

Cali, if you count the weapons out, do they divide equally amongst the pirates, 2 per pirate?

I ask as I have just reorganised the gymkhana and have equipped black pony girl with the whip in one hand and stick in the other. My word she looks fearsome.

I imagine a pirate in true swashbuckling mode would be brandishing 2 weapons (plus maybe one tucked in knickers round the back).

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 09/04/2008 20:30

sorry, obviously I mean pants.

Pirates would not ever be seen dead in knickers.

OP posts:
Kathyis6incheshigh · 09/04/2008 20:33

One of the positive differences I have noticed between the Playmobil now and the stuff I had when I was young is that there are several girl pirates now. Who may well wear knickers.

Slubberdegullion · 09/04/2008 20:37

really? I am finding it difficult to imagine someone (plastic or not) brandishing a cutlass or cleaving a scallard in twaine (made up phrase) wearing undergarments of a delicate nature, with a touch of prettyness about the gusset.

Squirdle · 09/04/2008 20:44

My 2 have spent many hours playing with their playmobil again today.

I tired 2 Sainburys but only managed to get a Roman figure, but DS2 is very pleased as he knows all about the Romans from school. Was disappointed not to find more though. Do you think if I rang a store they would tell me if they had any sale stock left? (DH away this week so I can sneak bits of Playmobil in without looks

At the moment, we have a piglet, a foal, Mr Roman Man, Mrs Chicken Lady, a knight, a very tiny chick and a goat all queuing up waiting for the bus. i think there are electrical problems with the door on the bus though as they aren't getting on despite it having been there for 2 hours
