Washing machine - Indesit or AEG?

We need a new washing machine. Have browsed the latest Which report and found two contenders - the Indesit WIL 143 (approx £200) and the AEG L64810.

Both score similarly in Which tests, but the Indesit falls down on reliability according to the Which customer survey. They don't really quantify this though, so I don't know how many more years I could expect to get out of the AEG.

Other considerations are the environmental impact of buying more cheaper washing machines against fewer more expensive ones, and the fact that there's an Indesit factory in our town, so it feels like buying local

Which one should we get?

I have an Indesit one and it is very noisy.
No idea which one you should go for but just thought I would share that with you!

I had an Indesit and it kept breaking down. After 6 months we actually got a refund (though it wasn't same model as yours). Our engineer said he got called out frequently for these and Hotpoints. He recommended AEG and we bough one, best ever decision. We thrash it several times a day and have had no probs in a year. Also my mum has one and says it's fantastic!

Indesit...nonono...my friend had 2 and they both didn't last long, and me and another friend both have Dishwashers from Indesit, and well, they are a tad rubbish, too....
AEG is a very good make!
Must say though, I am a Zanussi fan....my first washingmachine (Zanussi) was 10 years old when we got it (for £20) and lasted another 6 1/2 years for us, and I bought a Zanussi again in 2002 and it's a fabulous washing machine and so far no trouble and I have at least 1 big load a day....

We bought an Indesit to replace our ancient Hotpoint a month before ds2 was due (I said I needed a reliable new washer with a new baby coming). It conked out when ds2 was a fortnight old After 6 weeks of visits from repairmen, endless phone calls to customer services, and spare parts which never materialised Comet admitted they couldn't fix it, couldn't get hold of a replacement and graciously allowed us to upgrade to a Bosch.

I would never buy an Indesit again (you can imagine how much washing I had with a new baby and a 4 year old) and I would also never buy anything from Comet again (but that's another story).

Go for the AEG.

3andnomore · 30/11/2006 23:01

hm...I think if anything it's Electrolux now...AEG...not Zanussi

cornflakegirl · 30/11/2006 23:02

But will the AEG last 1.75 times as long as the Indesit?

OP posts:
jampots · 30/11/2006 23:02

aeg definitely

or bosch

cornflakegirl · 30/11/2006 23:03

AEG and Zanussi are both Electrolux

I was told by a washing machine repair man not to touch Indesit with a bargepole as they are incredibly unreliable and usually break down after a year or so.

jampots · 30/11/2006 23:04

cant always go for cheap imho. we had a hotpoint before which lasted 10 years now we have a bosch - you simply cannot compare. the bosch is excellent and extremely quiet which to me is worth a fortune

cece · 30/11/2006 23:05

I have just bought a bosch and I love it Look on kitchenscience.co.uk

jampots · 30/11/2006 23:08

just for the record though John Lewis white goods are made by AEG

3andnomore · 30/11/2006 23:10

indeed, it seems that both Zanussi and AEG are now Electrolux...hope Electrolux is good though (just bought an Electrolux cooker, lol)

cornflakegirl · 30/11/2006 23:11

nooo - don't try to tempt me with other brands!

i find it so ridiculously complicated choosing a washing machine. i read the which report - machine a is great, but machine b which looks identical except for a slightly faster spin is nowhere near as good... it doesn't make sense!

OP posts:
3andnomore · 30/11/2006 23:11

oh, and agree on spending a bit extra, if you possibly can, on a washingmachine....it really is worth it!
I bought mine through the Internet, and got a real good deal and made a very good saving....

cece · 30/11/2006 23:12

My only grumble is that it beeps at me when the cycle has finihsed - repeatedly! [grrr]

lou33 · 30/11/2006 23:12

dont get indeshit

3andnomore · 30/11/2006 23:13

lol cece...mine does that, too....but only for a certain time and than the light just blinks...

cece · 30/11/2006 23:14

like you hadn't notised it had finshed lol

jampots · 30/11/2006 23:14

plus john lewis offer a 3 year guarantee on their white goods instead of 2 years

jampots · 30/11/2006 23:15

my w/m bleeps at me too - drives me mad. my phone bleeps to tell me someone's called, someone's left a message, then my mobile does the same - grrrr

cece · 30/11/2006 23:16

This is the model I have
BOSCH WAE2416S

3andnomore · 30/11/2006 23:17
