Has anyone got a 4x4?

momof2 · 04/03/2004 13:36

We have just decided to get rid of our faithful Hippo (Nissan Micra) and branch out into the uncertain world of much larger family cars.
I have been looking at a discovery or freelander - please note all old ones not new.
Has anyone any experience of how good/bad they are please? Or any 4x4's they would recommend or MPV's
Many thanks

oh no HMC you need leather if you're to retain a good resale value!!!

princesspeahead · 08/11/2005 21:58

you are going to have to be a bit more specific mrs doolittle, I seem to have electric fingers tonight!

and I don't think I compared your views on 4x4s to anything did I?

confused

Heathcliffscathy · 08/11/2005 21:59

peahead you don't live in the city you have a brood worthy of it, and you live up a dirt track. you qualify as non tosser.

now which of you drives one that has two or less children, and doesn't live up a dirt track in middle of nowhere??

JoolsToo · 08/11/2005 21:59

its quite nice being a spectator!

skinnycow · 08/11/2005 21:59

me!

princesspeahead · 08/11/2005 21:59

SOPHABLE!

Two or FEWER please.

Heathcliffscathy · 08/11/2005 22:00

30 mpg is still a bit crap tho.

pjsmum · 08/11/2005 22:02

I must be a tosser then! Only have the one child and don't live on a dirt track.

princesspeahead · 08/11/2005 22:02

not for an 8 seater. I tell you, I have SCOURED the whatcar lists...

Heathcliffscathy · 08/11/2005 22:02

god sorry. must be the fact that i've just watched bodies on sky+ and rob lake's lack of grammar is rubbing off on me...or something....

skinnycow: not a leg to stand on tbh. shame on you baby.

handlemecarefully · 08/11/2005 22:03

That would be me Sophable [big defiant emoticon]...(if I buy the Volvo XC90), but very glad to see that I might qualify as deserving after conceiving no 3 (planning ttc soon)

Skribble · 08/11/2005 22:03

So how do your cars rate or are they solar powered with foam bumpers?

MrsDoolittle · 08/11/2005 22:04

Sorry pph. It appeared to me you were making the assumption that because I believe the urban ownership of 4x4's (i.e. unnecessary) I don't believe in shooting?

Heathcliffscathy · 08/11/2005 22:04

so pjsmum and skinnycow: given all the irrefutable arguments on here (vis they are more dangerous, they do guzzle more petrol and they do take up more room) why???? it is cause of what you think it says about you isn't it??? the irony the irony

handlemecarefully · 08/11/2005 22:05

Sophable,

No 30 mpg isn't fab, but then why not unite in contempt against the mini cooper too then?

Skribble · 08/11/2005 22:05

Heathcliffscathy · 08/11/2005 22:07

elastamum · 08/11/2005 22:07

Got a Volvo V90 disel. It is Fab, has 7 seats, great in the bad weather and will also tow 2 horses. It is not very fast, more of a moving playground. We love it, DH says it is definately a mummy car though

MrsDoolittle · 08/11/2005 22:07

Actually the mini cooper is crap. I hate it, I live beside the blinkin factory and they are everywhere.
All over the road like blasted ants!!!

FairyMum · 08/11/2005 22:08

Mine is the tube. Cant drive in London anyway

Skribble · 08/11/2005 22:08

Volvo V90 go on is it an estate?

elastamum · 08/11/2005 22:08

Also, we live up a trach as well so is it allowed??

pjsmum · 08/11/2005 22:09

Just been looking at the website someone posted earlier. Mine still came in the top 20 for passenger and pedestrian road safety tests and they spelt the name wrong! i take it everyone elses is in the top 20 too.

Heathcliffscathy · 08/11/2005 22:09

minis: irrevocably linked in my mind now with a certain london chain of estate agents....shudder.

because hmc, they don't kill you if they so much as touch you is why. how much more dangerous they are is the biggest factor imho. and as for bullbars, if any of you have them you need lining up and shooting.
