Has anyone got a 4x4?

We have just decided to get rid of our faithful Hippo (Nissan Micra) and branch out into the uncertain world of much larger family cars.
I have been looking at a discovery or freelander - please note all old ones not new.
Has anyone any experience of how good/bad they are please? Or any 4x4's they would recommend or MPV's
Many thanks

but there might be other peoples' children in the car that the 4x4 is in collision with too

and a rolly car like a landrover discovery with a full load of adults and luggasge in is v. hard to drive safely

Oh, Alibubbles . Was that the girl whose family allowed a picture of her lying dead to be printed in the papers? I understand the poilce have caught someone, a 45yo man. When I first saw the story I thought that if I was that poor girl's mother I would have just gone mad with grief.

he had no tax/insurance or m.o.t

suedonim · 09/11/2005 18:39

It looks as if he's been charged , Alibubbles. I hope they throw the book at him, I really do.

skinnycow · 09/11/2005 19:05

Alibubbles - I've seen her picture in the newspapers and been really saddened about her wasted life and her grieving family too. So sorry - I'm sure your dd is absolutely bereft....

handlemecarefully · 09/11/2005 23:07

...and on a general note, I am now quitting this thread in exasperation at banging my head against a brick wall, since it seems that some are too obtuse to see that there are 4x4's and there are 4 x 4s, i.e. they are not all the same

Plus how long can we discuss this for? - it's now boring me rigid

For everyone else still hanging in there however - enjoy the debate

and p.s. why haven't you emailed the Presentfinder to tackle a serious road safety issue (scroll down to find link to speed camera evasion spray)

Hic! (mildly squiffy atm)

princesspeahead · 09/11/2005 23:10

hmc are you still HERE?

and have you tucked your chicken in?

sad news in the peahead household - one of our pet rabbits died today. she was fine last night, curled up looking peaceful yet dead this morning. no 4x4 skidmarks seen near her hutch, so that's a relief

handlemecarefully · 09/11/2005 23:20

Sorry to hear that PPH, but it sounds as if it was a painless and 'easy' death (hopefully) - had she reached a grand old age? I wouldn't be so sure about the lack of involvement of 4x4's - could be attributable to excessive CO2 emissions somewhere in the vicinity? (sorry, bad form to joke in the circumstances..)Hope your children aren't too gutted.

Haven't got my chicken . My colleague fell in love with her and has decided to keep her - she has borrowed an old rabbit hutch from neighbours as temporary housing. Still - at least the cochin has found a good home.

Janh · 09/11/2005 23:25

Peaceful is good though, pph - we have had several furry creatures that did not go gentle, would have much preferred to find them curled up quietly one morning (poor DH had to hit a gerbil on the head once). Hope the kids aren't too upset.

princesspeahead · 10/11/2005 14:16

ahhhh, thank you for your condolences you two!
we don't really know how old she was, she was a rescue rabbit! We have had her for 2.5 (actually almost 3) years, and they thought she was about 18mths-2 when we got her (although I don't know how they can tell).
So I guess she could have been almost 5. I don't know how long rabbits live for - I thought it was more like 7 years?

Children very sanguine really - well, matter of fact. DD just very glad that it wasn't her pony who had died! But they are worried about the remaining rabbit being lonely....
