Am I mad to buy a new Mountain Buggy when DD is 21mths old?!

I have a Bugaboo Frog which I'm selling as I'm sick of the 2-part fold and the fact that it takes up the whole boot (and we don't have small cars), but mainly cos we mostly do off-road walking.
Am I mad to buy a Mountain Buggy when DD is already 21mths old? She is a good walker already, but obviously there are still plenty of times when she needs a buggy - shops/sleeps/long walks.

We're also ttc no.2 so it will get used for a 2nd baby (like the idea that I can get a carrycot - prob from ebay - and can attach a kiddyboard)
I would've bought the MB 1st time round except it didn't have an adjustable handle then and we're both tall.
Am I mad??!! Cost (from chariotsatp) will hopefully be covered by selling the Bugaboo + loads of accessories.

Also, any opinions on MB much appreciated.

TIA

i'll look out for you in the park lanismum :o. i find mclaren's v v hard to deal with after the mb, & take it on the bus all the time. we've never had any problems.

except for today's puncture :(.

lanismum · 17/05/2006 22:52

ooohhh you manage it on the bus? i might try to get on a 55 tomorrow......ill let you know how i get on Grin

hoxtonchick · 17/05/2006 23:13

go for it!

amazonianwoman · 18/05/2006 09:04

The bus spotters are out again Wink Grin

Just lost out on an ebay bid for a 2nd hand MB...

After all that debating, I've bought an Ergo carrier instead Grin Very off-roadable, very nippy round shops haha! And I should get fitter carrying her when she refuses to walk Smile

If I get pg soon tho', I may start lusting after MBs again...

Oh, aw, was counting on you to try one out for me. What on earth is ergo carrier, lightweight buggy?
Going to cumbria and scotland in next month or so, v.tempted to buy MB just for that, bugaboo too unwieldy to fit in far & rubbish for off-roading. But looking at the stains on bugaboo to clean off before selling just makes me tired! disgusting...or do I just have grubby ds? just off for look-see on ebay...

amazonianwoman · 27/05/2006 13:10

An Ergo is a soft carrier to carry baby/toddler on hip/back/front. I like it but it could never totally replace a buggy for me, nowhere to put coats/drinks etc.

Haven't given up looking for a MB. Did you get a chance to try your DS in one?

We're going to Ireland soon and planning lots of walks in mountains & on beaches and I'm not excited at thought of squeezing Bugaboo into car either, or using it in these situations (hence Ergo). So I'm still debating...

Re Bugaboo - remove all canvas parts (hood, bag, seat cover) and just stick them on a 30' wash. Seat takes a while to dry but they come up brand spanking new Smile

AW, Thanks for advice re:washing. Handlebar (which is annoying me so much now it's raining lots, I hate it) and the bar across the front are v.difficult to get pristine though.
Still haven't made it to local shop, terribly tired still although I'm sure it will lift soon. Wld really prefer BabyDirect in Leeds (where we bought our bugaboo) as they've got quite a bit of space to push things round. Shop near me has them packed in like sardines & I think she's suspicious of me as looked at their powertrack & then bought online for 100 quid less.
Looked up and printed full stats for both buggies last night, length when folded is about the same although I think the new MB has folding handle which would cut it down. Still, that's not really a problem as bugaboo length fits. But height once folded - the MB wins hands down which means I might actually be able to fit it in the boot along with some other things. MB quite a bit wider at the back, which means struggling to get through doors although 3 wheels does make it easier to manoevre. Having owned a 3 wheeler, I know it would be much much better for beaches, mountains and anything a bit rocky. Wld really like ds to sit in one first, if he's comfy & sat up pretty upright, I think my decision's made. I have a friend in Tassie with one (tho think it's a terrain), might email her & ask about that. If I'm going to buy one off ebay, it's got to be very soon as going on holiday in 10 days!

AQ - got one yet??!! Grin

aw, not yet, but am decided on one! One ending on ebay tomorrow. Do you find straps on bugaboo don't hold your dd in? DS had massive tantrum yesterday & I couldn't keep him in the pushchair, I got so cross & hot I swore that MB was the way to go. Still can't fold it easily after 2 years, message there! What about you?

amazonianwoman · 03/06/2006 12:42

Same here, DD can get arms out of shoulder straps easily and is working on the buckle...

Grrr bugaboo. Lanismum, Hoxtonchick, can you advice on whether mb urban is upright enough, if kids struggle to get upright? I read comment on other thread indicated problem with terrain. I have already owned 3 wheeler where this was a problem, don't want to do it again! And what do you think of the straps, can kids wriggle out easily?

Might have to leave purchase until after hols so I get a look at an MB in Cumbria. Not spending £200 (which is what they seem to go for on ebay) without being sure on this point.

amazonianwoman · 03/07/2006 11:32

AQ - did you get one???

Just found out I'm pg, so the Bugaboo vs Mt Buggy debate is now raging in my head again (along with a million other things LOL)

oooh this thread is back!
aq, congratulations
right, with regards to the mb, for my dd, it isnt quite upright enough, she struggles a bit when i first put her in it, then sort of resigns herself to the fact she cant sit upright, its not a massive problem for her.
she can escape the straps quite easily, but i think this has more to do with my dd than the mb, as she as escaped every harness of every pram/highchair ect, thankfully, she cant get out of the carseat!!

just thought i would let you know, i am waiting in today for my mb to be redelivered, my dd managed to throw herself back and snap the plastic clip that reclines the seat, and also tore one of the straps that attaches the seat to the frame, shes not quite 16 months old, and not particulary heavy so iv no idea how shes managed to break it?
the glasgow pram centre has had to replace the entire seat unit. i also had a puncture after a week and needed to replace the inner tube, it had never been on terrain rougher than a pavement!!
having said that, after a week of using a maclaren, im dying to get my lovely mb back, its so light and easy to push, i just hope that the last seat was just a dodgy one, and my human wrecking ball of a dd doesnt manage to break this one.

lanismum · 03/07/2006 12:22

sorry, congratulations AW

amazonianwoman · 03/07/2006 13:16

Thanks lanismum. Your daughter sounds, er, energetic LOL. Glad you're liking the MB

OP posts:
lanismum · 03/07/2006 13:35

energetic is a very polite way to describe her
my mb has just been redelivered, the foam on the handlebar is ripped (was fine when it went up there) and the back axel is bent, so the wheel turns in towards the pram, (fine when it left)
aaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggggggggggggg another day of sitting in waiting for a replacement just how many more problems can i have with a 6 week old pram?
sorry, rant over now!

amazonianwoman · 03/07/2006 13:45

How annoying! I'd be mega p**d off

OP posts:
accessorizequeen · 03/07/2006 20:44

Oh, dear lanismum! Absolutely hate waiting in for people esp twice...
Congrats aw, that's great, is it just early days yet? I'm 16 weeks now, so feeling more energetic about tackling these things but STILL haven't managed to get to shop nearby which sells MB urban to see if DS hates not being upright. Apparently getting to one shop for 20 minutes with both dp & ds completely impossible in 6 weeks. If ds likes it, I'm buying it. DS getting impossible to push in bugaboo, the front wheels just keep locking & it's so heavy with any shopping at all. My back is killing me now pg has set in. Hate to think of baby + ds on buggyboard. And I am not paying fortune to buy bugaboo buggyboard. Leaving for scotland on Thurs & not sure i'll both to take a pushchair at all, was so hoping to have mb by then. But the uprightness does both ds, couldn't deal with his stress about it!

BTW, been following thread about thingy to keep children in straps if you're interested, ds can now get out of car seat so I'm desperate. Figured you can cross bugaboo straps over & keep them in that way tho.

amazonianwoman · 04/07/2006 20:05

Yeah, v early days, just found out this weekend. Good idea re crossing straps, will try that tomorrow!

OP posts:
mumo75 · 05/07/2006 12:30

if you are worried about your child not being sat upright enough you can buy a bumper bar to go on MB the child can then hold on to this to sit upright!
