Am I mad to buy a new Mountain Buggy when DD is 21mths old?!

I have a Bugaboo Frog which I'm selling as I'm sick of the 2-part fold and the fact that it takes up the whole boot (and we don't have small cars), but mainly cos we mostly do off-road walking.
Am I mad to buy a Mountain Buggy when DD is already 21mths old? She is a good walker already, but obviously there are still plenty of times when she needs a buggy - shops/sleeps/long walks.

We're also ttc no.2 so it will get used for a 2nd baby (like the idea that I can get a carrycot - prob from ebay - and can attach a kiddyboard)
I would've bought the MB 1st time round except it didn't have an adjustable handle then and we're both tall.
Am I mad??!! Cost (from chariotsatp) will hopefully be covered by selling the Bugaboo + loads of accessories.

Also, any opinions on MB much appreciated.

TIA

Ok - went to Peter Jones to sample the mb urban on Friday and dd love the recline aspect - like sleeping in raffles/ or ambassador class on british airways. mb urban is very light and easy to push - but it is enormous (still love it ) - I use the bus alot with dd or rather when I collect her from nursery we get the bus home so getting the mb on and off the bus is imprtant for me and just couldn't see how that would be possible? - I'll check the other thread on this as I am sure I read somewhere that mums take the mb on buses with no probs but it's enormous?

Did get around to folding it it down because the other important factor is that it fits in our boots (lexus and vw polo with no probs) reason I didn't get to fold it down was due to peter jones staff almost passing out with horror when I said I need something I can get on the bus and is comfortable for dd to sleep in whilst hanging on to the mb - they detached me from the mb and darg me over to the maclarens!!! And actually dd loved those too - she like the brightly coloured one especially and (hate to say this) they are really easy to steer and fold and are very light and fit in any car boot - downsides are they won't cope on grass and sand and such like which is the probbie I have with the quinny at the moment - so still undecided as to what to do - help!!

N.B. everyother prammie in Sloane Square and Kings Road is a bugaboo (mugamoo) really don't see why given the horrors I heard you go through to fold the thing up and they don't fit in carboots either unless you dirve a lorry - sigh...sigh.... more sigh

amazonianwoman · 23/04/2006 13:12

Guess it would be a problem getting it onto a bus. Luckily I never use buses so wouldn't have this problem! Maclarens are ideal for folding one handed etc, but you're right, they're rubbish on anything less than super smooth surfaces.

Would a Micralite be any use for you? Not a fantastic recline, but large rear wheels and v easy fold.

Thanks aw - I've tried dd in the Microlite a few times and she doesn't look so comfy in there - legs and arms hanging out it seems to me. And she's not a big child either? was premature in fact but has caught up now - we're off the bluewater now so more time for me to go play around with prams - let you know outcome yet another pram mission

hoxtonchick · 23/04/2006 17:39

i sent you the pics aw, though not from the hoxtonchick address.

i take my mountain buggy on the bus all the time, have never had any problems.

heymissymum · 23/04/2006 23:06

hoxtonchick - ah hah - my eyes light up again, where do you live (fingers crossed in London) if in London then you mean you take mb on all buses including standard red double decker, new bendy busses and the little nipper buses such as the C1 to Sloane sq and Kings Rd, or the C10 to millbank and victoria or the P13 to Tulse hill and Denmark Hill?... sorry for all the detail but just covering all the bases

amazonianwoman · 24/04/2006 00:14

Lanismum - have you ordered one yet??!!

Grin

You lot are worse than me at these buggy decisions and that's saying something, LOL. We've had our Terrain on double deckers no prob, ITH. (The 82 to Victoria BTW)

(pmsl at your list of bus routes). Smile

hoxtonchick · 24/04/2006 09:37

double deckers & bendy buses are no problem at all hmm. i'm an east londoner, so not sure about your little bus routes, but it fits ok on the 236 at the end of my road which is merely a glorified minibus :o.

amazonianwoman · 24/04/2006 09:57

Ha ha ha, this could turn into a bus spotters forum LOL

hoxtonchick · 24/04/2006 10:18

i bet it was me lanismum :o. london fields, right? come & say hello next time!

lanismum · 24/04/2006 10:20

hee hee it was round the back of london fields, if you ever get a stranger with a black mountain buggy come up to you and say hello, dont call the police Grin

hub2dee · 24/04/2006 10:57

Don't know if it's relevant, but the MB can also take quite substantial quantities of shopping. The Terrain has a metal basket underneat which we stuff full of plastic bags of groceries, and we additionally hang stuff off the parasol bracket on the side. We have not noticed that this adversely impacts balance nor handling though owners will have to make their own safety judgements on this.

There is an excellent explanation of fixed wheel(Terrain) vs swivel(Urban) on Chariots website. www.chariotsatp.co.uk/atp.htm#swivel
It explains that because of the weight being mainly at the front on the Urban, when you lock the wheel you don't get the equivalent of the Terrain's fixed wheel, rather you get something which is difficult to steer. I've had Terrain for 3.5 yrs and it is superb. A kiwi friend bought me an accessory from NZ- a swivel wheel for the front which is attached under the front frame and swings out to take over from the fixed wheel for use in shops when you want to spin on a 5 pence. Should only be used on smooth surfaces tho as I got mine caught in a grid and nearly ejected baby from carrycot (I wasn't using harness in the carrycot - would recommend you do as it is quite shallow).

heymissymum · 26/04/2006 01:26

oh dear embarrassed myself with my bus use - especially given that we have two cars - anyone got theit new mb yet? I am still agonising and have not made an purchases yet

MadamePlatypus · 27/04/2006 13:16

We have a terrain and it is brilliant. It shoots through mud and across sand and was great when we went snowboarding this year. Not sure how you would carry a snowboard on a bugaboo...

lanismum · 28/04/2006 18:37
