Am I mad to buy a new Mountain Buggy when DD is 21mths old?!

I have a Bugaboo Frog which I'm selling as I'm sick of the 2-part fold and the fact that it takes up the whole boot (and we don't have small cars), but mainly cos we mostly do off-road walking.
Am I mad to buy a Mountain Buggy when DD is already 21mths old? She is a good walker already, but obviously there are still plenty of times when she needs a buggy - shops/sleeps/long walks.

We're also ttc no.2 so it will get used for a 2nd baby (like the idea that I can get a carrycot - prob from ebay - and can attach a kiddyboard)
I would've bought the MB 1st time round except it didn't have an adjustable handle then and we're both tall.
Am I mad??!! Cost (from chariotsatp) will hopefully be covered by selling the Bugaboo + loads of accessories.

Also, any opinions on MB much appreciated.

TIA

Anytime Twiggers, but I'll believe it when you're knocking on my front door, and not a moment before.

computers, cars, buggies, Ms. yumyum. That's me . Wink

I presume the black fading was on a cotton / canvas fabric not on the poly one ? I went for poly so we can hose the buggy down after any particularly muddy trips down the high street.

The micralite is flippy floppy wibbly wobbly. I'd prefer to push my Terrain thank you very much.

Oh dear, it looks like I've listed you as one of my interests... oh well, it wasn't like that when I spoke it to my inner ear in my inner brain in my little inner world.

booge · 19/04/2006 18:38

Love, love, love my mb urban, so light and lovely to push, have just bought the double for when no2 comes along in the autumn. Bit early I know but saw a 2005 version at a bargain price. We keep a lightweight buggy in the car though as it is big when folded and will do the same with the double.

amazonianwoman · 19/04/2006 19:40

More self-justification Smile - ALL our holidays are camping in North Wales & Lakes, don't do the sitting around sunbathing stuff. And most weekends we're out & about. And I HATE shopping. Even the short-cut to nursery is across a huge bog of a common and it's over 2 miles each way.

I can talk myself into anything... Blush

Went to compare terrain and urban and the shop had JUST sold its only flipping terrain model a couple of hours earlier.

Blimey, how completely annoying.

Still.. it shows SOMEONE PREFERRED THE TERRAIN.

geddit ?

I walked across some v. boggy / slippy part of a North London park a few weeks ago when it was really sodden and squelchy. You'll find the Terrain has much better balance (ie. it's designed to allow easy lifting of the front wheel) which better allows you to go places you shouldn't, LOL !

notasheep · 19/04/2006 20:32

My Baby Jogger has been FANTASTIC!!! we certainly need it around here-I dont run with it but loads of Mountains to climb, its really light and folds flat in boot of my Volkswagen Golf

vickiyumyum · 19/04/2006 21:01

oops my secret is out! yes i am a complete buggyaholic, i justify it though by buying and selling most of them on ebay, or selling other things, like clothes the kids have grown out of, to fund another buggy!
dh spends money on cars, and i spend money on buggies and clothes!

but i still stand by my claim you can't go wrong with an mb!

florenceuk · 19/04/2006 22:05

Actually I have a Techno and a MB urban and the MB is MUCH easier to push with one hand and dragging a recalcitrant 4-yr old than the Techno. And in desperation the 4-yr old can ride on the front. The techno is also much harder to get up and down kerbs, so even for the school run (less than 5min walk) I prefer the MB. Techno is best for shopping malls and crowded corner shops though.

hub2dee · 19/04/2006 22:16

Yes, if you spend all your time negotiating tight aisles in corner shops, deffo get a Maclaren.

Got chance of a 2nd hand MB urban 2005 Grin but it's flowery. DH would die...

Anyone any idea how much new covers/canopy would be? Emailed mountainbuggy.co.uk 2 days ago but no response.

hoxtonchick · 20/04/2006 14:35

oh the flowery one is lush :o. we have the orange stripy one which i adore. dd is 9 months now, & very happy in it indeed.

amazonianwoman · 20/04/2006 14:40

Oh yes, saw the orange stripey one last year, LOVED it. Think DD would love it as she keeps trying to climb into the orange zapp in John Lewis LOL. Wonder if you can still get it?? Flowery pink is fab but what if 2nd baby is a boy??!!

hoxtonchick · 20/04/2006 14:41

i got ours from kiddicare about 6 months ago. i've only ever seen 1 other.

vickiyumyum · 20/04/2006 21:44

i'd love a flowery mb! that would be my ideal one, but they stopped doing them and now only have the plain colours which is why i want the red.

heymissymum · 21/04/2006 01:09

amazonianwoman - has the pink flowery mb seller found a buyer? I may be interested. I know Peter Jones (Sloane Square, London) stock the mb urban - off to check it out tomorrow with my two year old dd. We have quinny zapp at the moment - excellent for steering but crap when dd falls asleep - and I live in London and the quinny though robust has much trouble bumping down Camberwell Grove and can't be comfy at all for dd - plus she sleeps everytime we go out with buggy so she needs something useful. In answer to your origial question - you are not mad - I'm thinking of doing the same thing though a friend is trying to convert me to \link{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/la0144&bklist=icat,4,shop,shopushchairs,pusstrollers\this} or \link{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/la0425&bklist=\this} but I too don't like maclarens? Something about the look of them - I've seen the black mb urban out and about and it looks good (is unisex for second or nth child) and feedback has always been excellent on the streets of London when I ask!!

amazonianwoman · 21/04/2006 10:17

Heymissymum - pink flowery mb has gone Sad, I just wasn't fast enough.

Only my opinion, but I don't think the Quest is any better than the Zapp for bumps, friend has one and I hate pushing it, and her DD sort of slouches in it. Plenty of people love them tho'. OK for in the car I suppose...

Let us know how you get on looking at MB tomorrow Smile

amazonianwoman · 21/04/2006 19:35

Hoxtonchick - how ORANGE is your orange one LOL? Is it as bright as the orange zapp? Found a discounted one. It's either that or black. Not that I'm superficial you understand Grin

OP posts:
lanismum · 21/04/2006 19:44

see, after reading this, i now want an orange one, or a flowery one, sigh, now i think the blacks too boring, dunno if ill order it tonight now...................

hoxtonchick · 21/04/2006 19:48

it's not quite as bright as the zapp. and the seat & hood are stripey (brown/pink/beige i think from memory - better than it sounds!). it definitely stands out, but in a good way (i think :o). the discount would sell it to me too!

amazonianwoman · 21/04/2006 21:55

Is it definitely unisex? ie not too much pink in the stripe? Sorry for being so anal Blush

Any black isn't boring, won't get dirty and will always resell easily.

OP posts:
amazonianwoman · 21/04/2006 21:55

Oops, And black, not Any black

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 22/04/2006 15:56

definitely unisex. have you seen a photo of one? shall i take one & post it?!

amazonianwoman · 22/04/2006 17:00

Thanks HC, have seen photo of one but not very clear. Also saw one in the flesh about 12mths ago, but can't remember too well.

Thx for offer of photo, would be fab, but only if it isn't any trouble!

Is your DH happy to push it??!! Smile

I think babies/toddlers prefer colourful buggies. Yet more self-justification Grin

hoxtonchick · 22/04/2006 19:03
