Am I mad to buy a new Mountain Buggy when DD is 21mths old?!

I have a Bugaboo Frog which I'm selling as I'm sick of the 2-part fold and the fact that it takes up the whole boot (and we don't have small cars), but mainly cos we mostly do off-road walking.
Am I mad to buy a Mountain Buggy when DD is already 21mths old? She is a good walker already, but obviously there are still plenty of times when she needs a buggy - shops/sleeps/long walks.

We're also ttc no.2 so it will get used for a 2nd baby (like the idea that I can get a carrycot - prob from ebay - and can attach a kiddyboard)
I would've bought the MB 1st time round except it didn't have an adjustable handle then and we're both tall.
Am I mad??!! Cost (from chariotsatp) will hopefully be covered by selling the Bugaboo + loads of accessories.

Also, any opinions on MB much appreciated.

TIA

i love buying new pushchairs!she isnt too old for it,like you say,she still needs one for long walks/shops etc.i havent got a mountain buggy, but ive got an i'coo platon 3 wheeler.thats big and folds in two parts so im going to get another pushchair!!(just to give me a pushchair fix until i get pg and can then get double one!!)

misdee · 14/04/2006 13:50

ooo dont. i want a new one. lol.

she isnt too old, dd2 used a pushchair till she was over 3years old. and if your gonna sell the bugaboo to pay for it then you're doing ok lol.

buffythenappyslayer · 14/04/2006 13:52

just got toys r us catalogue out and the mothercare one!!neeeeed a new pushchair NOW!!!!!

misdee · 14/04/2006 13:53

i want a micrlite......

spacecadet · 14/04/2006 13:54

if youre ttc again then no as the new buggy will get used again when you have another child.

amazonianwoman · 14/04/2006 14:11

Ooo fab, I knew I'd get the right response here Grin

Another Q - let's say I got pg now, then DD would be 2yr7mths when second one arrives. I wouldn't need a double then would I? I was thinking a buggyboard/kiddyboard would do, esp as DD is quite a good walker already. I also have a sling and a backpack style carrier Blush so thought I could get away with all these!

Was also considering the Phil & Teds, but it just doesn't compare as well to the MB Urban, at least not as a single pushchair.

Misdee - I'd also LOVE a Micralite to have as an "in the car" buggy, only put off by the little canopy (I'm paranoid about DD getting sunburnt as I've had melanoma)

OP posts:
misdee · 14/04/2006 14:13

if i had enough credit on my MC account i;d had ordered the micralite lol.

lanismum · 14/04/2006 14:14

i started a thread a couple of weeks ago asking what people though about the mountain buggy, im going to order 1 tuesday, the general opinion is they are great, my dd is only 1, but id still get it if she was 21 months if i had the money and space, im also ttc and the mb will (prob) be used for baby number 2. go on, get it, you know you want to............................Grin

lanismum · 14/04/2006 14:14

misdee, thought you wanted the mutsy? Grin

amazonianwoman · 14/04/2006 14:15

Misdee - where's the cheapest you've seen the Micralite?! Have you tried the Zapp? Would get that if it reclined even a little bit!

OP posts:
amazonianwoman · 14/04/2006 14:16

Lanismum - where are you getting your Mt Buggy from? How exciting - ordering next week! Which colour are you getting?

OP posts:
misdee · 14/04/2006 14:16

i cant afford a mutsy!!

all about the same price. zapp is pants, dont get it.

lanismum · 14/04/2006 14:18

im getting it from glasgow pram center, thats the cheapest iv found it, will be getting it in black, nice unisex colour, and hopefully wont show all the mud it will get covered in when i take dd to festivals this summer!

lanismum · 14/04/2006 14:19

misdee, you are not missing much by not having the mutsy, its like driving a range rover and wont fit in any shops. it is pretty though..............

misdee · 14/04/2006 14:21

lol. i just called peter and said i was bored and looking at pushchairs. hehehe.

lanismum · 14/04/2006 14:23

AllBuggiedOut · 17/04/2006 11:28

A decent buggy is life-enhancing, so go for it I say!

hub2dee · 17/04/2006 11:59

Great buggies. We bought a carrycot and used it LOADS. For walks with the baby as well as for naps during the day, even for a safe place to sit / play when dd could sit up.

BTW I think merryberry has a micralite thingy that she might be selling (was also contemplating an MB), you could CAT

You should know however that they are big buggies. The rear wheels have quick release clips, but they do need a fair size boot. FWIW we could fit ours in our Saab convertible (could even fit the carrycot and change bag in too), but for some cars it will be too big. Our new estate makes things much easier.

Re: Mostly doing off-road walking... I'd probably suggest you consider the Terrain instead of the Urban. We hesitated for ages because I thought that the locking capability of the Urban (plus the fact we live in London) meant it would be more useful for us... but the Terrain is a) narrower b) lighter c) complete doddle to steer, even with its fixed wheel, even one-handed (because the balance to tip the rear handle down and lift the front wheel is soooo spot on). If you need the adjustable handle you have no choice, but we find the fixed handle Terrain accomodates mine and dw's height difference perfectly well.

On the buggy board question - got one for DD who was 2yrs 9mths when DS was born. She walks most of the time but its great to have for when she gets tired/the frog march to pre-school because we're late!

amazonianwoman · 17/04/2006 13:12

Thanks again all.

H2D - considered the Terrain, but think the handle will be too low, I'm 5ft9, DH is 6ft3. Certainly my friend's 2003 model Urban felt too low. But do like the fact that it's narrower and lighter. Altho' I'm pretty strong LOL. We currently have a Passat and and Audi A4 estate, so they should be OK. Despite the advertising hype, the Bugaboo takes up loads of room, around 104cm length and huge height unless you strip it right down, so can't be any worse, surely!

Can't find the terrain ANYWHERE to play with...

So, if I got the MB, which lightweight buggy should I get too?!

OP posts:
Gem13 · 17/04/2006 13:30

I'm 5'7, DH is 6'3 and we had a double terrain which was fine heightwise for both of us.

Hub2dee - I did recommend the Terrain to you a while ago... [smug emoticon]

I have a single Nipper (fab buggy - not impressed with the double) and have just bought a Micralite to persuade DS to walk into town (pushing DD) and then have the easy-fold option for the bus trip home with both children.

hub2dee · 17/04/2006 13:53

Amaz - do you mean your friend's Terrain ??? BTW, be careful buying secondhand Urbans. I'm not sure if it's a worldwide issue, but in the US there was a recall re: handlebar breaking on some models. BTW you can also buy a \link{http://www.mountainbuggy.sycamorekids.com/accessories.html#handlebar_extension\handlebar extension} for the Terrain ITH dh.

If you can get to North London you are welcome to have a push of ours.

PS - Gem13 - Thanks ! It's fab. Not needing to control a pivoting wheel is bliss !
