ndp (sorry for xmas presents diversion!)

essentially, it is a known software problem - they update the software through the boxes overnight notmally. Back in October (I think it was) they did an update which knocked out a lot of people's live pause/rewind - they couldn't figure out why and have had engineers working solidly to try and fix it since then.

Have they got you to do a software download yourself from home?

I would call them - they know all about this - try and get them to talk you through the fixes on the phone (you can do quite a few of them on the box yourself). If that doesn't work, tell them you want an engineer to come out and visit you (FOR FREE) because there's no point paying for sky + if it's not working and otherwise you'll cancel your subscription to it.

handlemecarefully · 12/12/2005 14:49

mascara - try redletterdays and look under the extreme sports section (it might not be called that verbatim but it is called something like that)

Mincepiedermama · 12/12/2005 14:51

Thanks. It's good here.

foxinsocks · 12/12/2005 14:52

(also, first thing to try and is to complete unplug from the power for several minutes - as in take the plugs out of the wall - and then plug back in)

TheFish · 12/12/2005 14:55

foxy, done all of those things and nada.

Glitterygook · 12/12/2005 14:56

Ours is working but we did hae this problem a while ago and now and then it won't rewind or we can pause we can't un-pause iyswim. Just occasionally. Annoying

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 14:56

you have to press the 'sky' button to revert back to live tv.

foxinsocks · 12/12/2005 14:57

have you done a planner rebuild?

TheFish · 12/12/2005 14:58

ooh wot is that?

OP posts:
NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 14:59

i think so because that goes funny too. It tells us we have 60% memory left when we've only got 12& in recorded programmes onm the planner. A complete waste of cash, IMO.

TheFish · 12/12/2005 15:00

ah not hat means it is faulty
ours only has th e prob wiht the lve rewind
it complain ndop
ii lpove ours

SERVICES - 4 - 0 - 1 - SELECT

although it appears when you are pressing 0 and 1 that you are going nowhere, once you press select, you are in the hidden installers menu. Then select the option for planner rebuild. It should reboot your box.

If that doesn't work, there is a full reset option on that hidden installers menu but that will get rid of what you have recorded (I think) whereas the planner rebuild shouldn't.

TheFish · 12/12/2005 15:02

willtry later

NomDePlumPudding · 12/12/2005 15:03

ok. I'll savbe this thread and show it to DH later. Thanks foxy

Cod - DH does some tinkering with the box whenever it cocks up it's percentages and it reverts back to normal. It happens every now and again.

MascaraOHara · 12/12/2005 15:15

Thanks HMC, I've suggested all the redletter day stuff before and he's either done it or knows somebody who does it already - you gave me an idea though - I've just been looking up kite boarding courses.. hopefully he might go for it! he can do it on land alreay so he might be up for trying kite-surfing or something.

handlemecarefully · 12/12/2005 15:18

oh good - hope the kite boarding proves promising. Nice to get this thread back to present buying rather than skyplus!!!!

SueW · 12/12/2005 16:07

I teach and we are soppy enough to buy our classes a little gift at xmas, altho' they get a gift from Santa at the end of term party as well. We have taught these children for 18 months now so have exhausted the little book, pad and pen thing. Would you be offended if your child came gome clutching a bag of reindeer poo (aka choc raisins) or snowman poo( tiny marshmallows) in nice bag with little poem? there are 26 of them so alternatives need to be cheap!

thecattleareALOHing · 12/12/2005 18:30

Spidermama, did you know my ds has recently decided his favourite programme is Angelina Ballerina?
His favourite Xmasong is Santa Baby by Eartha Kitt, which is postively camp. I like it though.

thecattleareALOHing · 12/12/2005 18:32

minepie -how about nice bedlinen?

LilacBump · 12/12/2005 18:34

alright, MIL says she wants something 'silly' or 'funny'.

SnowQueenVictoria · 12/12/2005 18:36

Is the helpdesk still open?

thecattleareALOHing · 12/12/2005 18:37

silly or funny? what's her normal idea of 'funny'?
