oh and can someone tell me if leappad books are worth the money...can i get one for both of them and just switch books? i know nothing. i am idiot.

My dd loves her leappad, I am amazed how she looks after it. Not one book ripped or a chip lost.

but can you buy one...like the base thing?... then put baby books and books for an 8 year old in it too?

You only need one base and swap the books, although they do a baby one that takes smaller books.
