i've looked online and on freecycle etc, all the cheapo places just seem a bit suspicious to me, but how long will they use them for anyway?

i think it depends on ages of your kids and what you get as to how long they'll last

for example, we spent quite a lot on thuka bed for ds1. atm it's a short midsleeper. but we will eventually add another bed to make it into bunks. later we can buy a kit to convert them into full size beds.

so, lots of money, but should last them til forever really!

i think it's worth getting ones that can split into 2 separate beds, but if you're only envisaging needing them for a really short time i would def buy from ebay or put a wanted ad on freecycle

i have been looking for the ones you can split (not so many second-hand there of course)... ikea are doing a pair now but they are black, unfortunately. what's a thuka bed?

I got ours from m&s, they are beeeeeauuuutiful

Really sturdy too, they don't wobble when I climb up to make the beds.

They assemble them free of charge too which was a huge bonus for me.

They weren't the absolute cheapest but included matresses (not sure ifthey still do) and imo were worth the price.

What is cheap? Ikea do bunk beds for £89, but that doesn't include mattresses. Or they do a midsleeper you can put a mattress below, making a low-level sort of bunk bed.

that m and s offer is over, which is a pita tbh or i'd have gone for that... they do look perfect. but it's just a lot of dough i think, when you include the mattresses.

We recently bought the Ikea reversable bunk bed.

It can just be a normal single with a 4-poster frame effect. Or you can flip it upside down and it is a bunk with one mattress on the floor. The undreneath bit makes a brilliant den, but for now ds is sleeping on it because there is nowhere to fall when he tumbles out of bed.

Paint the norddal?

i would say that i would paint the norddal, but i never would... i know only too well.

that kundal thing looks good, but of course would give me only one bed at the end of things, so probably not the cheapo-est solution in the long run.

(you know i do like this new feature with the grey OP posts and everything but when it's your OP it does make you feel a bit needy and attention-seeking, i must say)

If they were a decent price and near enogh what you wanted i wouldn't care if they were painted in gold with multi-coloured sparkly sequins that glowed in the dark - the kids ain't going to care - they won't be looking at them for most of the time they'll be in them!

oh yes thanks that does look good. although a bit at charging extra for the ladder. are they supposed to levitate up there?

the black ones are only about thirty quid cheaper than some nice ones from that site, so no, let us forget about the black ones...
