I am going to SPIT if i trip over dd2's useless cot one more time... WHERE is the cheapest and best place to get BUNK BEDS?!

Aitch · 08/09/2010 13:37

honestly, that bloody cot... she hates it so spends half her time in with us...

i've looked online and on freecycle etc, all the cheapo places just seem a bit suspicious to me, but how long will they use them for anyway?

i take it no-one cares any more? i am NOT SURPRISED BECAUSE THEY ALL LOOK THE FOOKIN' SAME.

What do you think of this one from aspace?

HuckingFell · 08/09/2010 21:53

the white ones are nice.

Aitch · 08/09/2010 22:07

aspace ones are nice, i wonder what the defect is? and really, i also wonder how discernibly different they are from the kays ones? how can this be so confusing, really? it's ridiculous.

OP posts:
HuckingFell · 08/09/2010 22:13

i doubt it is more than a few scratches/chips. Nothing that wont be there soon anyway.

HuckingFell · 08/09/2010 22:14

we switched to bunks when dd2 was 15 months. she just wouldn't go in the bloody thing

accessorizequeen · 08/09/2010 22:15

not that different, just that aspace is known for good quality stuff. Dunno about kays.
I am going to get my boys bunk beds for xmas so started looking ergh (they'll be 7 and 4).
look out for one of those M&S 20% off days? Moneysaver website seem to know when they're coming.

SmellsLikeTeenSweat · 08/09/2010 22:16

Argos.

We got ones that split into two singles later on.

Aitch · 08/09/2010 22:17

well yes, the odd dent doesn't bother me. what do you think of the kays ones? they seem to be mdf, shoudl i be bothered about that?

re dd2, tbh even if she won't sleep there until she's dropped off on our bed we are still ahead on points as we will have cleared her cot out of their bedroom and gained some space...

near you

and again

moaningminniewhingesagain · 08/09/2010 22:22

I got ours from here, not cheap and nasty but good value and free delivery/1 hour delivery slot. They have some good offers on most of the time.

The website is a bit gaudy but customer service side was good and the mattresses were fab. I got the maple bunks, they are v nice, still using as singles at the moment until youngest is less likely to throw himself to his deathGrin

HuckingFell · 08/09/2010 22:24

we have the shorty bunks, 2.6 wide. i have slept in the bottom one (am 5' 8") and they are big enough. We went for them to free up more space.

mdf - dunno, think it is just the dust that is an issue. the thing is how long do you expect to use them for? ours have been in use for nearly 3 years and now we are going to sort the box room out for the older one.

i am also crap at diy but i did slap white woodwash on thhe shorty ones and they look great!

heymammy · 08/09/2010 22:25

We recently got these cgi.ebay.co.uk/White-Hardwood-Bunk-Beds-2-3ft-Sprung-Mattresses-/200444004732?pt=Beds_Mattresses&hash=item2eab64c97c for dd1's room. Both mattresses included and delivery to Glasgow too! I'm pleased with them on the whole. Easy to build and can be 2 singles later on.

HuckingFell · 08/09/2010 22:28

also how old is dd2? we have the vertical ladder and our dd2 was nearly 3 before she could manage it which was great - because by that time she wouldn't throw herself off it. then we had a few months of her shouting to get down before she figured that out!

Aitch · 08/09/2010 22:29

they look lovely, minnie. which mattresses did you get, btw?

OP posts:
HuckingFell · 08/09/2010 22:31

ta daa

Aitch · 08/09/2010 22:31

likewise to heymammy. the mattresses are another bloody thing, tbh, how to tell which to get? i got an el cheapo one for dd's current bed, and regret it every time i sit on the blasted thing.

OP posts:
CrispyTheCrisp · 08/09/2010 22:33

We got these and are lovely. Got 15% off by joining their facebook page too. Just googled discount codes and got it

I think they were £350 inc luxury mattresses after discount. Very sturdy and easy to assemble

Aitch · 08/09/2010 22:33

perfect, hucking, but not twin beds though. you are all helping so much, thanks. i feel i am triangulating somewhat.

OP posts:
moaningminniewhingesagain · 08/09/2010 22:33

The poshest ones, luxury pocket sprung, they did a good bundle deal with the bed.

Very Very Comfy. At least as comfortable as my relatively expensive bed. Just as well because DS is a little shit monkey at night so DH has slept in his more than DS has Blush DS in with me and DH evicted.

DH is 6ft4 so they are full size!

HuckingFell · 08/09/2010 22:35

both the archers ones are twins! and you could see them real!

HuckingFell · 08/09/2010 22:36

those are lovely crispy.

heymammy · 08/09/2010 22:38

Ah, yes, looks like the same company as minnie. The mattresses are too soft for my liking but dd seems comfy enough, I so wish I'd upgraded though, IIRC it was £30 per mattress for the next one up then £60 per mattress for the one after that.

It's a bloody minefield isn't it Hmm

moaningminniewhingesagain · 08/09/2010 22:38

Ah ha HuckingFell's supplier is the same company as mine, they have a couple of different trading names but same address and owner, some industrial park near Chester.
