Do you think that having the sex topic in ‘active’ has changed the tone of the responses here?

Why does it come up in active anyway?

Or is it just a glitch for me?

I imagine the sex topic is just full of men pretending to be women getting each other worked up thinking they are talking to actual women.

Is it ? Weird, I'll leave it where it is.

AlwaysGinPlease · 17/02/2023 20:49

@ForestLilac oh come off it. He literally responded to her post telling him she's already told him not to engage with her. Then he dares to tell her not to post at all. Ffs! 🤦🏻‍♀️

No. She wrote something today that he responded to today. THEN she said ‘I already told you yesterday not to talk to me’.

If someone told me yesterday not to talk to them I wouldn’t remember that posters name. That’s what I’m saying.

As we all want the same thing ie take the sex topic out of Active, I’m not sure why we are all disagreeing, we are all in agreement!

@ForestLilac he knows full well. You gave him a decent excuse though, so he could use that and say he didn't realise, following on from your prompt.

Okunevo · 17/02/2023 20:56

There is a follow topic button but to hide it I have to go through settings? So annoying.

Oh okay no worries. I’ve never met him and don't know how his mind works and didn’t realise he had a spreadsheet. You obviously know him better than me so that’s fine.

Agreed. Ready made excuse provided. There is always someone ready to step in and stick up for them. They're likely the NAMALT way inclined.

SauteedOwl · 17/02/2023 21:00

@ForestLilac I don't know him

He clearly wants to know me though eh 😀

SauteedOwl · 17/02/2023 21:00

@AlwaysGinPlease and this is what encourages them. There's always women ready and waiting

Look I don't want to disrespect your request not to talk to you but it's not really fair to continue to attack me and I certainly don't want others drawn in.
@ForestLilac posted while I was writing my reply so no excuse was given.

I'll be more careful to read posters names in future rather than simply responding to posts.

Is that fair enough?

It's fine, we disagreed on the site stuff thread, I said nothing disrespectful or insulting but was asked not to reply to any more of their posts.

It's not a problem

LucyLeave · 17/02/2023 21:27

I'll be honest here. I'm not a fan of men on MN. Especially men who only post on the sex topic. I like that it's a mostly female space on the internet. I always thought that was one of MNs strengths. Shame MN fucked that up.

C1N1C · 17/02/2023 21:38

FatSealSmugSoup · 17/02/2023 19:00

It’s fucking grim. If I wanted to read FHM I’d go out and buy a copy.

I thought I’d hidden the topic earlier - but there it is, littering up Active.

I’m a good few years in from passing a copy of Mizz around the bike sheds - it’s all so sleazy.

I might need to toddle off and find an adult forum.

If you could find it... it stopped printing in 2015! 😜

makingarunforit · 17/02/2023 21:52

I clicked on a thread in Active the other day and I would hazard a guess that 90% of the responses were from blokes. Some of the responses were so bloody sleazy talking about women.

I don't need a sex topic nor do I need to see the posts in my Active view thanks Mumsnet!

BanterEnjoyer · 18/02/2023 00:52

This forum doesn’t bother me but clearly a lot of women are offended that it’s in active. I think it should remain as it was, a subject area that you can search for if interested. This site is generally women centered so if it was working previously by not being in active it should stay that way.

Sex is definitely a subject you would have to search for, rather be in your face and unwelcome your feed. I do understand how others feel, as some sex topics are cringe and I am not interested in reading them. It’s better left as a choice rather than being in active.

RobinGood · 18/02/2023 07:27

I’ve never really visited the sex topic voluntarily because I haven’t had a need to, but had naively assumed it was like the rest of MN and aimed at getting support with issues around sex, women discussing problems for example. More and more topics keep coming up in my active list and that’s clearly not the case. It seems really out of step with the rest of the site. And where is a woman supposed to post if they’re seeking support like I’ve described? I sure as hell wouldn’t post on the sex topic, it’s wall to wall grubby wankers.

Minteraye · 18/02/2023 07:40

Surplus2requirements · 17/02/2023 20:38

I a man and read and post in various areas of MN. I'm quite happy that it's female led.

But using women as collateral damage to attack men is not OK on any level.

Doesn’t make a bit of sense.

Just leave the poster alone who asked you to leave her alone.

TriedTurningItOff · 18/02/2023 07:49

Yes. Changed the feel for me. I'm no prude

FuckeNell · 18/02/2023 10:39

I don't like it at all

Yes

Welcome to the 'new' sex board.
Please only post if you are posting a recipe, are here to bash men, or here to shame people for having sex.

If you have a genuine question about sex, this is not the right place for you anymore.

Your thread will just be derailed and spammed anyway so why even bother?

ScorchBeastQueen · 18/02/2023 11:01

Its changed the feel of the rest of mumsnet.

wombyvolvo · 18/02/2023 11:17

Personally I'm not bothered by sex topics. I can just not click on them.

But the sheer number of complaints from people who don't want it in active AND genuine posters who don't want their threads derailed with childish recipe posting should surely have prompted MNHQ to make a change by now.

Having it in active doesn't help anyone, no matter what your feelings are on the topics posted there.

This is how I feel, it’s pleasing no one. And some people are saying they had the Sex bit hidden, it came into Active with the recent change, and now it’s proving very difficult to hide. That’s what the uproar is I think, they have no control over their own feed.
