QE Boys 11+ 2027 entry

My DS sat his QE exam and he thinks he did horribly after missing a few questions on the English section.

Any parents know how many marks can be dropped on average and still get in? I haven’t been able to find any others who sat the test this year.

Hi, looking at the threads (of which there are very few about 2027 entry), English seems to have been a tough one for most. Would love to hear from parents whose sons’ experiences differed!
I self-tutored, so I haven’t been able to get any information other than what I’ve found on forums. My son said it was 64 questions in 45 minutes, so not atypical for QE, and the comprehension passages were very long. They weren’t horrific texts compared with what has previously been rumoured to be used, but it was very time-pressured.
The scores are comparative. The wait is so painful. No one knows how many marks can be dropped. It all depends on how the other boys did.

Saying that, there was a child in previous years who aced the Maths with 141 and got a ‘low’ 97 in English, but got in. So is that hope? Who knows…

applesunshine · 21/09/2026 12:34

There have been very very few threads on it this year. I really wonder why? I self-tutored aswell. My son said he knew the content but it was simply just timing. Thought I’d get this thread running in prep for when results come out next week and in hopes other parents are out there.

It’s looking like 233 got in last year but off the waiting list in the summer

I thought the lowest score was 235 for 2025. I couldn’t find what it was for 2026 except that the waiting list is currently at 20.
It’s just this period of waiting… the odds of him getting in are so very very small. I was expecting him to say it was awful, but he was surprisingly nonchalant about it and went back to school after lunch. Sigh…

My son told that English 2nd comprehension was tough. Any views on maths?

applesunshine · 22/09/2026 20:17

My son found maths to be fine and he managed to finish it. It was easier than the English.

Same here. Maths was easier than English. It seems to be the trend judging from last year’s thread, which starts very similarly to this one.

Agree on that. Although, English is subjective and child thinks he chose the right option especially for comprehension. So, we never know until we receive the scores. At least QE gives score in.the results email, better than Sutton schools where we have no clue how the child ranks, they just pass too many children even in stage 2.

The wait is horrendous, I wish they gave the results a bit sooner.

MyWiseLemonFinch · 23/09/2026 15:38

My son found English challenging because of timing also left about 5 questions blank bless him but said maths was similar to EPP

Sigma8 · 23/09/2026 17:45

To add to the frustration of everyone after us who may be going through these chats with a fine-tooth comb to prep for QE like I did — my son thought Maths was definitely easier than EPP!

Edited

Yes he did say this but I thought it was inflated confidence 🤣🤣🤣

Nah, I wouldn’t read it as such. EPP was a bit crazy, with a number of questions that could only be solved in under one minute if you knew something no 10 year old should know, such as how to factorise quadratics. Otherwise you would have to plug each answer in until one worked…

Underthehood · 24/09/2026 13:54

Do we know or have faint idea on how many max number of questions a child could get wrong per subject and still manage to secure a place in QE

TheLoftyZebra · 24/09/2026 14:10

This to my knowledge entirely depends on how the entire cohort performs, what the average for this exam is and standard deviation ( how much better than the average) of a child's score from the average.
So, the max of 141 doesn't need to be full 60/60 in maths or 64/64 in English.

StreetMonkey · 26/09/2026 11:32

Is the 1st of October the official date when we get the results?

applesunshine · 26/09/2026 11:34

Well yes it the provisional date. In previous years they have come out the day before.

That's good to know, so potentially wednesday? My DS doesn't care about the results but, I've developed an unhealthy obsession lol.

Waiting is so hard! Although I don’t think DS would pass but still…
