QE Boys 11+ 2027 entry

My DS sat his QE exam and he thinks he did horribly after missing a few questions on the English section.

Any parents know how many marks can be dropped on average and still get in? I haven’t been able to find any others who sat the test this year.

This wasn’t on my radar. Please could someone post what marks have been achieved. My nerves…

Hi.. I am reliably informed that the QE Barnet results are out. I havent recieved any email yet but wondering if forum members here may have heard anything.?

How reliable are they…

inmi · 29/09/2026 13:36

I also saw a message on Glecta Group saying they are out. But so far no one has received and even we have not received.

Sigma8 · 29/09/2026 13:40

Well, something is happening on Applicaa because today’s date has appeared on the tab but no new message with it so far.

vidd · 29/09/2026 14:15

I can see the score in applicaa

88991010S · 29/09/2026 14:19

Is 255 safe please?

Is 255 safe please?

Thats an amazing score and based on historic date your son surely has made a place at QE! Congratulations 😎

inmi · 29/09/2026 14:23

Yes we also got our score

TheLoftyZebra · 29/09/2026 14:28

Is 248 good enough this year please?

Sigma8 · 29/09/2026 14:30

We also received our results and as expected, not going to make it.
@88991010S That’s a fantastic score! It is well clear of the previous cut offs of 235.

Underthehood · 29/09/2026 15:18

Results are out for us! Got the email.

Underthehood · 29/09/2026 15:19

All the best to everyone.

Underthehood · 29/09/2026 15:50

Is 243 good enough or are we on borderline? Please suggest. Bit nervous.

go2 · 29/09/2026 16:50

At 243- I would see you as clearly through. They have invited 233 and above for open day which is not different from last year so would expect the initial cutoffs to sit closer to last year at 235.

Initial or final cutoff closer to 235. Remember pass mark is 225 and school invite is 233.

MyWiseLemonFinch · 29/09/2026 17:55

I would think so! Congratulations on an amazing score!

Sunnyhotday · 29/09/2026 18:47

Does anyone know what the initial cut off score was last year on national offer day?

Sri9 · 29/09/2026 19:52

Hi, Is there any hope for 241 , is it borderline ?

inmi · 29/09/2026 20:07

From the cut offs for the last 5 years, 241 does not look borderline. If you go to QE school website and look at September 2027 Admission Guide, Pg 16-17, the lowest score gaining admission is 235 in the last 5 years. Of course this is based on past data and we will know for sure in March

Statistically speaking, a 241 is nowhere near borderline. Since these scores combine two standardized distributions of English and Maths scores, jumping 6 points above the historical cutoff of 235 easily shifts a kid up 50 to 100 places. That pretty much locks in an offer—huge congrats!

Sri9 · 30/09/2026 10:06

Hi, Thank you so much for your insights. I was a bit worried as they have increased the qualifying score from 220 to 225 this year , so thought that might also impact the cutoff, we never know till March :)

You are right that in theory we won't know for sure until National Offer Day in March, but hopefully my following thoughts can give you some peace of mind.

It is a statistical fact that a standardized score simply maps to a candidate's percentile rank across the whole cohort and therefore the cut-off stays remarkably stable from year to year in line with standard statistical distributions. As for the qualifying mark being raised from 210 to 220 as you mentioned, it usually comes down to two things: either QE Boys adjusted the benchmark purely to trim down admin and filter out invalid applications (which has zero impact on the actual cutoff), and/or total candidates numbers have bumped up, which can increase both the qualifying mark and offer cutoff.

But even if candidate numbers are up, they won't have skyrocketed, and most of those extra candidates won't be top-tier scorers taking up the top spots. Crucially, a 241 is miles away from the historical 235 cutoff. Looking at past score densities where there are roughly 15 boys per point, 6 points gives a massive safety margin. It is a hugely solid score—I would consider it extremely safe. Fingers crossed for March!

my DS scored 233. I assume that is on the cusp and hence to not get our hopes up?

I think that’s right - sorry. Two years ago the score required to go on a school tour was 230 and the lowest score offered was ultimately 235.

With the tour cutoff going up two marks I’d assume the lowest score offered will be higher (or no lower) than 235.

233 is still an amazing score and your DS should be very proud of it. It’s just a ridiculously competitive field.

applesunshine · 30/09/2026 13:57

Last year, the lowest score got to 233 (but living very close to the school) and they got in off the waiting list.
