QE Boys 11+ 2027 entry

applesunshine · 21/09/2026 10:47

My DS sat his QE exam and he thinks he did horribly after missing a few questions on the English section.

Any parents know how many marks can be dropped on average and still get in? I haven’t been able to find any others who sat the test this year.

Does that mean all 234 got in?

This year also the cut off is 233 for second visit. Have they reduced the number of people attending second visit?

Last year, the lowest score got to 233 (but living very close to the school) and they got in off the waiting list.

All 234 got in?

applesunshine · 30/09/2026 17:12

Well scores are ranked and then distance. So yes all 234 got in BUT only those who put QE boys first on their application form to schools AND agreed to be on the waiting list

How reliable is this information? Historically there are few marks between cutoff and lowest entry.
230 - ended with 235
233 cut off - ending with 233 or 234 all in

This year is also the cut off is 233. Have they intentionally reduced the number of people attending school visit :(

The 233 figure from last year is from parents reporting outcomes in a Facebook groupchat.
QE’s own admissions information does say boys are ranked by score and then by distance, which is why someone on 233 living very very close could eventually get in from the waiting list.

Do keep in mind the waiting list is open til December 2027 so QE can still offer places if students drop out until end of first term. Last year it reached position 24.

This year 225 was the threshold for the first visit and 233 is apparently the cutoff for the second visit. I haven’t found what the second-visit cutoff was last year though, so I don’t think we can really compare that part yet. It could mean they’ve made the second visit more targeted this year, but it could also just be down to this year’s score distribution.

I found in groups that 233 was the cutoff for second school visit in 2026 entry. Same for this 2027 entry as well

Presumably those who didn’t place it first were offered their higher preference school, so that in itself means nothing. You can still go on wl even if you accept the other offer.

I dont know - my friend's son tried last year and was invited to the school visit with a score of 230.

Was that for their first visit or their second visit? Because that would make sense if they got invited with 230 for the first visit but not the second

I am not sure what we mean by first and second visit? I assumed the first visit happened in June that is orchestrated by students and then the second one is after the results with the teachers on a weekday and that was 230+ cut off students only. Is there a third visit??

There is only one visit after the results are declared . 233 & above invited.

Last year also only 233 & above got invited.

If the last offer was 232 who got in as a tie breaker then all 233/234/235 would have been accepted. I just don’t see any evidence of that apart from the 235. Ultimately 235/234/233 would have had more than 1 child which means only a couple in those groups would have accepted which I find hard to reconcile. Would the school have had that many places to offer to drop to 232 because I imagine there are many children within those 3 brackets.

I’m not sure where the 232 figure has come from because I haven’t seen any evidence of someone on 232 actually getting a place last year. The lowest figure I’ve seen reported is 233.
I’ve attached the anonymised results file from QE’s website for last year. It shows that 17 boys scored 233, 23 scored 234 and 22 scored 235, so there were 62 boys across those three scores alone.

But that still doesn’t mean all 62 were on QE’s waiting list and would have accepted a place. Some families will have preferred another school, some may not have stayed on the waiting list, and if a place came up later in the first term some parents may have decided their child was already too settled at their current school to move.

I also don’t think it’s surprising that 233/234/235 are the scores we keep hearing about, because that seems to be roughly the realistic admission range. So I’d be very cautious about treating 232 as an actual last-admitted score unless there’s a source for it.

One parent in Facebook said their waiting is 27 with 232 score . Waitlist reached 24 now.

May be some 232 did get in.

Thank you so much. That explains it well. I saw this on Facebook who confirmed a friend of hers got the last offer at 232 just last month living in Barnet position 21 I think.

Probably that’s the one I am also referring to as someone confirmed 232 a boy living in Barnet in Sep 2026.

It makes sense if they’re living in Barnet so potentially 232 could get in but would need to live extremely close to the school

Yes that’s entirely plausible for a tie breaker.

What is it going to be in 2027?

Sorry to ask again, but I don’t live in or around London. And someone said the scores are ranked first and then location wise rank. If I am leaving in Midland about 55-60miles away from school and I have a score of 243. Given this situation, is it wise to apply for QE from my current location in midland and hope we should still get an admission and my DS can enjoy his year 6 in current school. Or is it too risky and I should try and move near school before the address proof deadline which I assume its 7th of December? Really looking for everyone’s help and guidance here as we don’t have anyone locally targeting grammar school to discuss with. Thanks

I really wouldn’t panic or move purely because of this. A score of 243 is well above the sort of scores we’ve been discussing as likely to be competitive and that score would have put your son comfortably within the top 180 by score alone last year. QE doesn’t have a catchment area either; distance only comes into it if two or more boys have the same score, and then the closer boy is ranked higher.

So being 55–60 miles away doesn’t automatically put you purposes. With 243, I’d personally just apply from your current address and let your son enjoy Year 6 rather than rushing into a move just for admissions. Obviously nobody can guarantee an offer until allocations are made, but 243 is a very strong score.

Wow, there's a huge difference between 243 and 233 for QE Boys. Historically a score of 243 ranks around 150, whereas 233 falls around 300.
