New thread to carry us all through the summer as we transition from dealing with stressed teens to dealing with bored teens!

Not feeling so classy this morning after the afterparty, I believe @ChannelLightVessel - nothing like having to message parents to apologise for your daughter throwing up in their sink.

Just the three hours of symphony and a solo lunchtime concert today. Am crossing my fingers youthful energy will carry her through.

rosemarble · 01/07/2025 11:12

@achangeofnameisasgoodasarest your DD looks so elegant. It's nice to see a non-floor length gown. I also love her shoes.
The deep colours seem popular this year.

DS's is on Thursday. He just heard that the parents of the after party have decided they don't want to host after all. Perhaps it was looking like it was getting of hand, but a bit more notice would have been nice. I can't complain as my home is WAY to small to host a bunch of grotty 16 year olds!

In other news, DS1 is home for a bit so the brothers can hang out together until they start annoying each other which is nice.

Whoooo · 01/07/2025 12:53

Prom went well here ☺️
Dd has a busy week this week with her hobby group and then 6th form taster day on friday
It's going to be a long wait for results day!

Oblomov25 · 01/07/2025 13:58

Loving all the dresses. Beautiful.

Dagnabit · 01/07/2025 18:25

@achangeofnameisasgoodasarest - beautiful dress! I love the colour and net detailing 😍 Hope she had a great time.

Dagnabit · 01/07/2025 18:31

@achangeofnameisasgoodasarest - just read your update! Oh well, they recover fast as that age. I’d be suffering for about 3 days nowadays; thanks peri!

MackenCheese · 01/07/2025 20:01

Here is the dress! Prom , then she and her friend group went bowling in pyjamas at 2am, then a sleepover followed by McD brekkie
Talk about living it up!

Can't see the image @MackenCheese - hopefully it'll turn up soon or its my tech uselessness. Bowling and mcd's breakfast sounds genius.

@rosemarble sad for your Ds re afterparty though I think I rather wish DD hadn't gone to one given the drinking.

however, she made it through her concert - she was actually irritatingly chirpy and it sounded great... Hoping she goes to bed early today though.

She's apparently won 'an award' for speech day but no-one will tell her what for so that's an extra rehearsal (for walking)...She's never won an award for anything before in her life so we await with baited breath - though her dad suggests it is for 'child least likely to be wearing her blazer'.

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 01/07/2025 21:20

AH, and now I can see it @MackenCheese - gorgeous - love the colour, and the ruching at the top. Looks amazing.

Sisublondie · 01/07/2025 21:31

Hey all! Away on holiday with sketchy WiFi so trying to play catch up! Looks like more cool Prom fun!! ….🤩

Oh, HOW BEAUTIFUL!!! Just lovely! And, what fun, bowling in pj’s at 2am! Excellent life long memories!! 💕🤩💕

QueenMabby · 02/07/2025 15:44

@MackenCheese- beautiful dress! Red seems to be a theme amongst the DDs on here. My DD’s dress was red too.

@achangeofnameisasgoodasarest- well done for your dd getting an award and hilarious that she doesn’t know what for! I think if my dd got an award it would be for the most appropriate skirt length - she’s very particular about it! 🤣

OP posts:
achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 02/07/2025 16:57

@QueenMabby It will assuredly not be for that - I think that's the second most common gripe about DD2, who had her skirt altered specially by her big sis to make it shorter, after the lack of blazer!

Whoooo · 02/07/2025 21:22

Got an email today re: results day info. 😬
Dd can go into school from 9-10.30am to collect or get them sent via email after 12pm.
6th form Taster day this week, too.
I'm glad she's very busy this week so she can't ruminate too much

Eccle80 · 03/07/2025 11:24

We’ve just had the email about results day too, his is 8.30-10, I was surprised it was so early!

rosemarble · 03/07/2025 13:16

Results day email here, too - haven't read it yet.

It's Prom day and my "remember I am working so you need to keep me informed of plans and changes of plans that were agreed weeks ago and that I've juggled things to make them work" seems to have fallen on deaf ears.

I feel like his mates all have 2 parents wafting about at their kids' beck and call.
I'm sure they don't, but grrrrrr.

I need to look up how to fold up and present a polyester silk hankie in a top pocket.

Whoooo · 03/07/2025 17:03

Well.
Taster day did not go well. She hated it.
She has no plan b...
What do we do?
I'll be contacting 2 other 6th forms tomorrow to ask about late applications

I think that us your plan B then! Late applications elsewhere.

What did she hate though? Environment or lessons / subjects?

Whoooo · 03/07/2025 17:35

Everything 🤦‍♀️

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 03/07/2025 17:47

This area you can apply well after the courses have started - till October and there's lots of shifting about at start between insituitions and courses let alone after results day.

I know DD2 school will again tackle her on results day about staying - they've been fairly relentless despite them not doing one A-level she wants to do. I think all mine were just happy to be leaving their school and trying somewhere new.

I'd contact all the possible sixth forms and colleges and see what they say.

Whoooo · 03/07/2025 17:35

Everything 🤦‍♀️

I'm going to guess school 6th form and A levels?

Is there a college that does A levels, or even a suitable vocational stream?

Colleges tend to be more relaxed. No uniform, first names with the teachers, only in when have lessons etc. But they can't turn Physics A level into something different.

rosemarble · 03/07/2025 18:25

My DS and his lovely GF.

Don't panic.

We've had a complete turn around on what DD is doing next year 2 weeks ago. Had to sort out applications months after most people had applied, get auditions done etc and managed to get a place at her top (new) choice.

They were very nice when I called very, very late...

Whoooo · 03/07/2025 22:42

Thank you.
Dd is working tomorrow so I'll do some phoning around
Sigh
