New thread to carry us all through the summer as we transition from dealing with stressed teens to dealing with bored teens!

Thanks @QueenMabby! It has been an epic journey so far hasn't it!

Allromanticsmeetthesamefate · 20/08/2025 10:20

Hello, wish I had found this thread sooner!

We have had quite a fractious few months with one DD taking A levels and another GCSE’s.

Eldest DD already had an unconditional from 1st choice uni so I wasn’t feeling the same level of nerves that I am for DD 2, tomorrow.

She has had a fabulous summer but the nerves are kicking in and we have also had to have several of the “we are proud of you regardless” “there are always options” chats. Specifically she needs a 6 and above in her core subjects to do both English language and Maths at A level and had just told me she needs at least a 7 in EL or A at A level to get into her top choice uni and that will give you a little insight to internal pressure she puts on herself

I have just shared this on FB. Hopefully it helps some of your YP realise just how incredible they are with or without a results slip.

Yes thanks @QueenMabby- I haven’t posted a huge amount but have taken real comfort from the fact the others are going through the same amount of stress as I am!

@Whoooo We have a card ready and also a new laptop, which also partly a surprise birthday present too (summer baby). DD has got her dad’s old one at the moment and we figured she needs a decent one for all her BTech coursework. So if she doesn’t do as well as she hopes the laptop will hopefully distract her a bit.

Oh, how fab 👌
Dd was lucky in that I she got a free chromebook in January, so hopefully that will suffice for college.

Allromanticsmeetthesamefate · 20/08/2025 10:40

We are out for dinner tomorrow night to celebrate both girls however now I think I should get a gift/card for the table?

Any Ideas?

Oblomov25 · 20/08/2025 10:55

Thank you All Romantic. I really like the clip.

My 2 ds's are very content children, so seemed largely unbothered by Covid, both loved more x-boxing with mates! And they did get a visit to the secondary as it's a feeder. But I resent the lost parties, last sports day etc. I resent it massively.

I actually Can't wait for this all to be over. Tomorrow. Sick to the back teeth of it all now.

Is your DS going to sixth form with uniform or college where they can wear their own clothes? If it's the latter, you could give them some shopping vouchers for new trainers or similar. That's what we were going to do before we decided on laptop.

Just woken up from a stress dream! We were on the school playing field which in my dream was the field that used to be behind my childhood home and they couldn’t find DD’s results! Then a fox strolled by. Is that symbolic??? Gah, roll on tomorrow!

Edited

Depends what a fox means to you and if it was a calming influence or seemed threatening!

SuperTrooper1111 · 20/08/2025 11:00

@Allromanticsmeetthesamefate Oh god that FB post has made me cry! We forget how they missed everything at the end of Y6 and how the start of their secondary education was fractured by the three-month lockdown between Jan and March. My DD developed separation anxiety after that and didn't want to go back to school – I had to walk her in every day and deposit her into the arms of a teacher just to get her there. She's had anxiety issues since and has needed CAMHs support but that FB post has reminded me just how proud we should be of how far all the Y11s have come.

Well we've currently got a fox plaguing our back garden – it keeps trying to come in the house and nick our trainers! It's also made off with one of the dog's favourite toys. So make of that what you will!

Just in time @Allromanticsmeetthesamefate!
I love that post. Obviously lockdown was hard for everyone in different ways and it's really only people who have children DS's age or thereabouts who understand what it was like for our cohort.
It really mucked DS2 up for a while. He loves his football and I've always said that for any kid who likes to kick a ball about, they'll always have a friend to play with. For that to be unavailable during most of year 7 and a lot of year 8 was really hard.

rosemarble · 20/08/2025 12:13

Happy Birthday @Sisublondie 🎂

rosemarble · 20/08/2025 12:14

DS2 is feeling a bit nervous about tomorrow. "What if I fail maths".
He has now found a party to go to, so our Prezzo meal has been postponed.

KTopVT · 20/08/2025 12:17

My DS has received his Further Maths result today and he got the grade he was expecting, we're all happy. We weren't expecting it today though, we thought all results will be received tomorrow.

Whoooo · 20/08/2025 12:46

Dd has taken further maths - I’m off to check her portal!
I’ve just been up to the village to her a card. She’ll be getting premium bonds from us - we did the same for ds.

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that- both the nerves, and the Prezzo postponement…. 🤗. ( good that he’s off to a party, tho, but.. you’ll have a fab time at newly arranged date!)..

🤞 for his maths!! ( and the rest!)…

ps- anything looking interesting on the job front??🙏

😻…yup…caramel!…..and gorgeous in every way…..plus! excellent at having a great eye in IKEA when I wanted to buy a trolley of tat or picking out something to wear when you are looking blankly at your wardrobe…then showing you how to wear it! All the useful stuff!! 😈😹

waitingquietly · 20/08/2025 13:57

someone On our yr11 class WhatsApp shared that post just as the exams were starting - got me in floods at the time - what ever happens tomorrow they all did good to get this far - they had more to cope with than previous generations for sure

QueenMabby · 20/08/2025 15:52

This time tomorrow it’ll all be over! All the stress, hard work, and waiting. Not all of our DC’s will end up where they planned (or doing what they planned) but there will be a space somewhere for every dc and regardless, a new start and a new adventure!

"Of course they bloody well are Oh I think they will be"
"You're not coming into the school with me"
"I'll sit in the car as we have discussed many times"

Bless him, I think he's getting a bit twitchy. I have reminded him that I am already proud of how hard he worked and this won't change come tomorrow.

It's fine. I'll have an evening to myself which is always welcome.

Thanks for asking, but I really don't want to divert this thread. I'm doing OK and importantly I know we will be fine.

i’ve seen a post by an English teacher mentioning how the GCSE AQA English lit and language marking last year was all over the place and lots of papers were remarked / regraded. Assume they will have tried to prevent an issue of that scale happening again this year?

Also talk of regrading / remarking - I don’t remember seeing any grade boundaries when I did my GCSEs in the dark ages you just got a slip with your grades on and that was that!

Grade boundaries come out tomorrow at 8am on all the exam boards website. The odf will have a list of the grade boundaries and them near the end the breakdown per subject - per exam paper. So for Englih Lit what you needed on paper 1 separately for each grade and also paper 2 as well.

On the exam sheet you'll get the total mark per subject (next to the grade). Staff and teachers will know their marks per exam paper in each subject. So ask them if you want to know. This applies for every GCSE other than English Language which won't have the total mark on the results sheet - teachers will still have this, so you can ask. Its because instead it will show their grade (pass, merit or distinction) for their spoken English language speech.
