Instead of prom Ratty had a day out (a hot day out) at a theme park, did log flume twice, was still damp on collection, after a 2 hour couch journey!

Still not the worse day to be damp, and then others and the history teacher decided getting soaked was a good idea as well.

Sounds SO much fun!! Happy Ratty had a fabulous time! Yes, definitely not a bad day to get soaked! … long trip back tho..🙀! Sounds like he had a great time!

Both DS16 and DS18 had DH hauling me off to Alton Towers tomorrow…. not sure if I’d like the soaking, tho 🤷‍♀️🙄😹!

Great Ratty had fun!! ( happy for you, too) 🤗!

Prom day is here and the dress is finished. My dd spent years when she was younger trying to make Hermione's Yule Ball gown out of spare fabric and countless bed sheets. Those early efforts haven't gone to waste though as she's spent hours as her hobby over the last year making her prom dress for today. It cost about £100 in fabric, about £1000 if you had to pay for the hours she's put into it. She's developed a great skill through making it and I'm so proud of her perseverance. I never imagined when she started she would get to the stage of being able to wear it.

Oh, how beautiful 👗!!! You must be SO proud! ( and DD, of course!).

I hope she has the most amazing time of her life tonight….. making such wonderful memories….. and knowing she is solely responsible for how stunning she looks! 💕

Michele09 · 26/06/2025 21:56

Thankyou all for the lovely comments on the dress. I showed them to Dd during the day which really helped boost her confidence as just me saying it's lovely didn't totally convince her. She's having a great evening. Only let down was the buffet food, with a distinct lack of anything veggie, she sent me a photo of her plate of chips! Maybe she just didn't ask if there were alternatives to the chicken nuggets and sausage rolls. I had wrongly imagined a prom in a hotel as a sit down meal but I've never actually been to one.

Tiswa · 26/06/2025 22:04

My vegan ate before hand yesterday but said most of it was chips that people ate so seems standard.
Had a lovely time (weirdly met the footballer Declan Rice who was at the golf club it was being held at) but is exhausted particularly as she went to the Tate McRae concert at the 02 Tuesday night and had sixth form induction as well.
off to buy the uniform tomorrow and then she has picked up an extra shift at the musical theatre school she works at Sat mornings

labradorservant · 27/06/2025 00:17

Just come back from a few days away. Think it was good to reset the brains. Especially DS who was at a complete loss after alevels finished last week. Olivia Rodrigo tomorrow
for DD. Skimpy outfit chosen. First big solo festival type thing and then getting train home after. And then going abroad next week.

Eccle80 · 27/06/2025 09:09

@Michele09 food didn’t sound great at DS’s either considering it was at a nice hotel. He said his table did get served last because of where they sat, but it was shredded pork baps which were a bit cold and had no sauce so was a bit dry, and a single meatball (I’m not quite clear how that fits with the baps!). He thinks there was meant to be a pudding but it never got to them,

waitingquietly · 27/06/2025 11:50

Sympathy for the potentially hungry prom veggies - as a result will definitely feed DS before he goes tonight as his is a buffet too and whilst not officially veggie he’s always disliked meat . I’ve been veggie 35+ years and always eat before I go to any ‘occasion’ even if it’s just beans on toast

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 27/06/2025 12:41

DD2 prom there was a table of food out and that seemed okay for them all.

However no-one said anything about drinks being charged for - other than water would be charged - £5.50 for a small cup of pop. They stuck to water - DS never had that though they've changed location since then.

She said it was alright - but came back early as didn't want to dance. She is now all done with school and college till results day.

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 27/06/2025 16:53

£5.50 for a small drink @CatHairEveryWhereNow - mine would have been outraged!

DD1 says hers was mainly a 'beige buffet' of chicken nuggets and chips. The same for the Year 13 prom - in that case to soak up the booze!

Dry pork baps and meatballs also sound odd. DD2's sounds fancy enough - not sure she's going to entirely appreciate the coulis and heritage tomatoes.

She's also lost her nail varnish so needs to buy a new one before Monday's do.

She is (yes) STILL at school. Due to the proximity of a certain major festival she's in fact pretty much marooned there and can't come home for the weekend, as I suspect the traffic is unbearable.

Dagnabit · 27/06/2025 19:42

DD had her prom last night so thought I’d share a photo - she does normally have a head 🤣 Dress from Vinted, £8 something! Her hair cost more than her dress and shoes. She enjoyed it but not heard anything about it yet because she got home at 11pm, got changed into her comfortable clothes and left for a house party. Got home at 4:30am!! So I had no sleep even though she was with a huge group.

Quite the trooper though as got up just after 7 this morning to get the 8am train for her college taster day. Fast asleep now though.

@Michele09 I love the dress! Amazing talent 😍

Very elegant @Dagnabit
DD had her Sixth Form welcome brunch today. Apart from the addition of bagels, it doesn’t sound any different from the A level choices evening in terms of information. Bridging work is online. A bit of a waste of time, though DD was able to give out biscuits and handmade cards to her teachers.
DD up and down in terms of mood. OCD still taking up hours of her day. She’s off to the US next week. I just hope XH can cope.

labradorservant · 27/06/2025 23:09

DD on train home from Olivia Rodrigo. Back to her friends house after . Ed Sheeran turned up so would have been a good night. Spent today watching glasto and trying to work out who I know.

Tiswa · 28/06/2025 00:05

Ed Sheeran always turns up! DD has seen him twice now and never bought an Ed Sheeran ticket!

QueenMabby · 28/06/2025 06:12

DD’s prom seems to have gone well. She enjoyed it but said it was very loud! She went and had a sleepover with her friend group and didn’t get to bed until 3am!

@Dagnabit- gorgeous dress!

DD was also there... having laughed in my face over the suggestion of a hat or an umbrella, I am looking forward to seeing if she might now feel it was sensible when she gets home from her friend's house later today.

Apparently was an amazing night - was slightly amazed they were still going strong... they got up at 4.30am and were first in the queue at 6am. The staff gave them wristbands no 1 and 2 and told them to go and find somewhere to keep warm/eat/sleep and come back at a more sensible time and go to front of the queue😂

rosemarble · 28/06/2025 10:29

@Dagnabityour DD looks very foxy (am I allowed to say that these days?!).
Gorgeous anyway, and what a bargain.

marshallmum · 28/06/2025 21:56

Thanks for the new thread - I was lurking in survival mode through the exams… all finished now. DS and DD (twins) seem to be ok with how they have gone, so we’ll see in August. I’m still reeling a bit about how we’ve got to this point - DS was diagnosed at 2 with autism and we were told that he might finish primary school with a lot of support, but not to expect anything more. And here we are with 6th form offers lined up for him… I’m so proud of how he’s worked to get here.
He has absolutely no interest in the prom though, so we’re doing a big bike ride instead… DD is definitely more focused on the prom! so it will be great to see her get dressed up for the evening.

I think it’s perfectly acceptable and thank you 😊

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 30/06/2025 10:02

@marshallmum you should be proud! Hope prom goes well for your DD and DS enjoys the bikeride. @Dagnabit - that's gorgeous.

Prom tonight here (well, there)- but also a week of symphony and taster sixth form stuff. DD rang us yesterday to show off her dress - she looks lovely but clearly feels a little worried about it falling down - keeps tugging at it.

More immediately, she can no longer find her school uniform, which she is back in for this week. I'm going down tomorrow and have had to drag an ancient shirt out of her drawers to take down - she's borrowing a roommates today.

Oblomov25 · 30/06/2025 16:16

@Dagnabitlove the dress. 👗 and the bargain.

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 30/06/2025 18:52

Finally our turn for a headless shot. Five minutes to get changed but she scrubs up ok.

@Michele09, what a fantastic skill your DD has! That's a beautiful dress and she looks wonderful.

@Dagnabit , not less impressive is your DD's eye for a bargain! And it really suits her, she looks great.

@achangeofnameisasgoodasarest , your DD looks fantastic too in her prom dress. Don't underestimate the skill of getting ready in 5 and look that good!

I hope all DCs who are attending have/have had a great time at their proms! And that all those not attending are happy with their choice and have a lovely evening doing whatever they're doing instead. Even if it's nothing at all, like DD (hers is tonight).
