New thread to carry us all through the summer as we transition from dealing with stressed teens to dealing with bored teens!

Or drunk teens!

it seems to be “mum can you buy us some beers” at the moment and a string of parties/gatherings

Thank you OP , last one today for DS and then DS2 starts yr10 mocks tomorrow - feel like he’s been so neglected . Hope the DC all have fabulous summers

Good luck to all the finishers today (I think everyone is done!). Have a large glass of something this evening! 🥂🍻🍷🍸🥃🥤🫖🧋🍵

SuperTrooper14 · 18/06/2025 08:16

Brilliant idea for the next thread, thanks @QueenMabby!

Our thoughts are now turning to taster days - apparently DD’s chosen college will be offering them to those with offers in July.

RomanMum · 18/06/2025 10:37

Thanks to @QueenMabby for the new thread. Double whammy of DT and FM today, then it’s over!

ClearFruit · 18/06/2025 10:39

So glad it's all over. Prom on Friday, so it's all very exciting here. Bloody hell, it has cost a bomb!!

Sisublondie · 18/06/2025 10:41

@Libre2
How is your ds doing now?

I often find my blood sugars have a rise, post a dramatic event. I wouldn't be surprised if he had elevated higher blood sugars for say the next week, after the stress of holding it all together for the last 5 weeks?

ChannelLightVessel · 18/06/2025 10:57

Thank you as ever @QueenMabby Further Maths and the Prom today for DD!

babystarsandmoon · 18/06/2025 11:00

Stressed over what?

Mine has been living it up with her friends since leaving school on Friday and we’re loving being able to do what we want with no revision or school.

Oblomov25 · 18/06/2025 12:39

Eh? @babystarsandmoon
I think you may have misunderstood my post. We are just all on this thread waiting for the final few finishers. Is today the last day? or does anyone's dc have any exams post tomorrow?

I was referring to how many have already finished, and are thus NOW enjoying the chance to now relax.
But, I was referring to Libre2's diabetic ds who tbf did have a very nasty day re 'vaping boys toilet', and was just concerned and knowledgeable to what can happen to a diabetic's blood sugars, after a period of extended effort (and stress - let's be honest for most of our dc this whole exam period has been a long hard slog for 5 VERY long (un-necessarily strung out, me thinks) 5 weeks. Which are now over, thank God!

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 18/06/2025 12:43

@QueenMabby thanks as always. Both my DDs are now done - thankfully A-Level biology was 'quite good' today...

Hooray! DD1 will be celebrating in a more conventional and less orchestral fashion. Pink wine, in the main....

Oblomov25 · 18/06/2025 12:46

Are results August 21st? Is that 9 weeks?

Poisoningpigeons · 18/06/2025 12:50

Thanks for the new thread @QueenMabby!

VivaDixie · 18/06/2025 12:54

Thanks for the thread @QueenMabby you really are a Queen!

I am at work and have left DS home alone today - he is living his best life! His exam finished at 10:05 yesterday and I didnt see him until 5pm 😃 He had a good day which is just lovely. We had a takeaway last night.

I was struck by this post on the last thread - it really resonates with me - DS2 is 11 in Y6 and has also been good as gold, straight to his room or to his friends houses (I have already thanked their mums!) but last night was lovely - he said 'can my friends come over from now?' and his little face lit up when i said yes!

Frozendaisy's post below:

frozendaisy · Yesterday 16:27

HappyRatty just said "wow I just had my first time for thinking 'best do some revision' " before coming to his senses!
And just realised how quiet the house has been, little brother (he's end of Year 9 so not so little a fully formed teenager) came home and during exam season he has been good as gold, off into room/out not distracting RattyRevision, they are now in their lounge room, chatting, radio is on, the house has returned to audio life! (We were doing the exam time revision under quiet conditions under the theory that he would have to recall the information in silence who knows if that helped or not)
The sun is out, the garden doors are wide open the teens are yapping about "insert shallow topic here" and Little doesn't need blazer for rest of however long this warm spell lasts.

Sisublondie · 18/06/2025 12:55

Yep, it’s 21st August!! ( which, as it’s DS18’s 19th Birthday could be verrrryyyyy good!!!! Or, ummm, not!)..

But, is it NINE WEEKS?!?! Bloody hell! I almost feel like I should try and accomplish something extra curricular in that time span as a distraction?🤷‍♀️😈🤔…..ALMOST! 😹

VioletIndigoBlueGreen · 18/06/2025 13:05

Thanks for the new thread @QueenMabby

Further Maths will be underway now - looking forward to going out for a celebratory meal later.

Lovely to have some warmer weather for them all to enjoy post exams too! It’s not too hot up here (we are pretty far north), just comfortably sunny 😎

SE13Mummy · 18/06/2025 13:06

DC2 finished yesterday with a Spanish paper that was 'fine'. Even though they are going elsewhere for sixth form, they were very unbothered about it being the end of their time at secondary school and didn't do any of the hanging out with friends that DC1 did a few years ago because the friends won't do anything out of school.

Their plan for today had been to sleep all day... until they saw the forecast and decided to get up and go off to volunteer where there will be plenty of opportunities to get wet! I've just picked up a text telling me they're staying for the whole day because a primary school is coming so extra volunteers are needed. At least this is a busy day of hard work they've chosen!

QueenMabby · 18/06/2025 13:12

Dd dropped off for FM. She has loads of textbooks to hand back and is then off out for a celebratory Costa with her friends. House party tonight (not at ours thank goodness!) and hopefully a lie in tomorrow.

OP posts:
CocoPlum · 18/06/2025 13:15

DD was ridiculously, visibly tired last night. Then couldn't sleep well, apparently.

She's having a very lazy day today!

labradorservant · 18/06/2025 13:20

Dropped DD at school at 11 for FM (exam starts at 2). Realised she won’t ever walk to that school again. Sent head of maths a thank you email as she’s put on a lot of extra lessons for them.

IThinkImAMathmoMum · 18/06/2025 13:24

DD has left for FM, finally at the finish line! I asked her this morning if she wanted to take all her revision guides to school to donate but she has said she will take them on results day as they are currently scattered/discarded all over the house so need a bit of sorting (we have so many but DS used them as well 3 years ago so we got our money's worth). She will have to collect results in person as they don't email them.

..@Oblomov25and @Libre2, this reminds me of something I wanted to say to you both ( and other Diabetics/with Diabetic DC et al., .., I don’t really have any experience, or, I’ll be honest, knowledge of Type 1 (or 2) at all, other than my flatmate at Unis BF had it and we’d sometimes swing by his on the way back from a club, if he’d forgotten his insulin…

Anyway, during the GCSE’s I was at work and, at lunch I usually stay at my desk ( with my Times… very old school and now expensive vice to have! (I get it delivered)), but it was really warm and my colleague suggested walking down to the river to eat….. we did, had a lovely time, good chat and walked back. I had not noticed her inject herself while we were sat down and did not know she was diagnosed a couple of years ago..

We were walking back inside to our office and she started to mumble and tried to tell me what was happening…… but I had no idea what was wrong, long story, which I’m sure you both, sadly, have great experience of, she wasn’t well…but she said afterwards that she had calculated everything she ate, but whether it was the brief warmth, or wherever, she went into a “hypo” (oh, this is really embarrassing to say, or a “ hyper”, I’m still not sure which?) and it took her quite a while to recover.

My point is, I hold you, @Libre2‘s DS, and ALL people who have to organise and regulate their food/ drink intake daily in such AWE….. I don’t think anyone who has no experience of Diabetes has the faintest idea of what you guys go through. And, @Libre2, I have often thought of parents of DC with Diabetes over DS school years. He has Epilepsy, different seizures, including Tonic - Clonic ( “ Grand Mal”, iback in the day 🙄!), and had Buccolam Midazolam as an emergency drug to be administered if a seizure had lasted more than 5 minutes ( as well as calling 999), DS Specialist Epilepsy Nurse went to his (tiny village) school to train the staff how to administer it…, But! They would “ misplace” the Controlled Drug from the locked cabinet, didn’t give an air they realised the importance, but the low point (which was what cemented how scary it must be, being a parent of a diabetic DC), was when they were going on a school trip.”, and I checked they had his Emergency meds, “ Yep, of course!”, his teacher said “ , so you just take the cap off the syringe …..💉.. and jab it in his thigh?…..”……. “ Ummmmmm. No. No, you do NOT. That is an EPI-PEN! For Allergies. He has EPI-epsy, and a drug that is injected into the buccolam inside his cheek”! ….. Sigh!

Anyway! A very longwinded way to say I’m in awe of you both, and A MASSIVE High Five to @Libre2DS, and all other DC, who had to deal with this on top of the sheer stress of the exams! 🌟🤩🌟🤩🌟🤩
