Hi all,
I really enjoyed reading previous 11 plus support threads and I think we’re probably ready for a new cohort of year 5s start their prep?

so I thought I’d set up one for next year. All welcome!

we are trying for dame Alice Owen. DD currently has group tutoring once a week but we are looking to increase to twice a week before Xmas.

i am trying to get her to do a cgt GL 15 min tests a day very unsuccessfully! This half term is going to be all about embedding routine 😀

look forward to meeting other parents preparing

@IsThatYouPam - my son took the test on Monday and found it quite difficult due to the lack of time they had to do the questions.

I also read a comment on FB from another parent who claimed that the test was identical to one of the practice papers at a certain tuition centre they attend so they thought it was easy, which is worrying? 😯

Which consortium test was this?

Good luck to all those waiting for DAO today x

Good luck to your DD! Mine has done sweet FA for a week so I have mixed feelings about getting through/not getting through to round 2. She's done with studying, it seems :(

Let's see what time they send emails... hopefully not too late in the day xx

Me too- unfortunately we had a family death the night before the test and she took the emergency day- after a traumatic week I think her chances are unlikely but also I could really do without the continued pressure into round 2 :(

Mixed feelings too. My daughter has gone rogue after all her hard work this year. Tearing my hair out while simultaneously hoping that a week out isn’t going to make much difference <hollow laugh> She has (kinda) said she will get back on it if she gets good news today

Oh crossed posts!

Im so sorry to hear. I had thought you were a little quiet. I guess you just need to satisfy yourself that you and she are doing the best that you can under very difficult circumstances. There is more to life than these bl**dy exams

Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to hear that :( I keep reminding my daughter that these exams aren't the best all and end all - I suppose we should remind ourselves that too. So many more important things in life! We try to do the best for our kids and their opportunities, but certain things are just beyond our control. If my DD doesn't make it to round 2, it just isn't meant to be.

Sending hugs to you and your DD xx

AquaPeer · 18/09/2025 07:46

Thanks both. It’s literally one of the things you never consider might happen. The only saving grace is we did so much research last year in year 5 we don’t have to worry about all the opening evenings etc we’re missing!!

I'm so sorry AquaPeer. I too had been missing you on the thread. A teacher at dd1's school died this week, she's devastated. It t reminded me to keep things in perspective and also that there are brilliant and caring teachers out there and a warm community is what I really want from a school.

Good luck to everyone today. But whatever the outcome I hope you find a good school environment for your kids.

AndiePandi · 18/09/2025 08:33

It was the Trafford one on Monday 15th

Oh goodness, that is also a really tough one. My DD’s teachers are like family to her

For all those that sat Latymer, apparently Admissions out of office currently says that rank 1 emails will be sent September 26th and rank 2 ‘before October 31st’. Let’s hope I’ll be in a position to look out for a rank 2 email!

Hi do you know if both papers were identical to the mock they sat?

Interesting. Which test centre, do you know? I wonder how that happened.

DC said the paper was OK although same feedback as others re: the NVR… hopefully won’t make too much of a difference/ everyone had the same problem/ the guesses were good ones!

AquaPeer · 18/09/2025 09:26

I find that hard to believe tbh- how many children remember all the questions by paper in that much detail to say they’ve done the exact paper before? I am pretty sure my DD couldn’t make an accurate judgement about that

Though on the eleven plus forum it says the ooo message says "by 30 September".

Coolparent · 18/09/2025 09:46

@AquaPeer @sweetmelody @SFV all the best for DAO results today and to everyone else. I read last year they started coming around mid-day. Fingers crossed. @AquaPeer so sorry about your loss! Hope you all are doing okay. Just a few more days for us! DAO round 2 will be the last exam for us. Will keep updating here once I hear anything about the results. Been scrolling my inbox incessantly since morning..

IsThatYouPam · 18/09/2025 10:19

@AquaPeer sorry to hear of your loss.

@troppibambini6 you're right, and I think as soon as one person says they found it easy the rest follow so as not to look less clever than their peers! When my oldest did it only two of his friends said it was hard and they both passed with good scores (one very high) so I know finding it easy doesn't equal a pass. Having said that my DS has been pretty borderline throughout and has always come out of mocks accurately predicting how well (or not!) he had done so I won't get my hopes up too much.

@AndiePandi , which tuition centre was this? Do you mean the format was identical rather than the questions? I know Newell pride themselves on being as close to the real exam as possible as they get a lot of feedback from their numerous students every year - we did a few of their mocks and DS said they were similar but not identical and there were a couple of key differences. I just can;t work out how a tuition centre would know the exact questions in advance. And yes it is worrying if it's someone like Newell as they seem to have 100s of students!

Poonu · 18/09/2025 10:25

Good luck to everyone today and also Saturday Slough consortium

I very much doubt it was "identical" - suspect their child came out and said "oh it was just like that one I did at [tuition centre]," meaning broadly similar rather than the exact same questions. The parent posting on FB won't have seen the actual test, after all.

Tiredlady1 · 18/09/2025 11:39

I've been told before that papers have been repeated, why? Because it costs the school money to change them, so they rarely do !

Tiredlady1 · 18/09/2025 11:42

Maybe a silly question, but a random thought popped into my mind ; how do they ensure there is a balance between girls and boys in mixed schools if it's just based on results?
