All 9s here, 11 of them - so proud, 😊
Given that he knew his dad was having major surgery the week after, he really did do phenomenally well

Newlease · 22/08/2024 11:46

Have been reading through the results, well done to all kids! It was such a stressful time, so happy that result is out. Now to put it behind and enjoy the rest of the summer before A level hits
DD has 9- 9s 8 in 2 subject, one is 1 mark off 9, do we send for revaluation? I am not sure, I told her to ask her teacher.
and a 6 in Drama 😭 This makes her really sad, not that she was expecting much or worked hard on it. But overall makes her sad.
I kept saying it doesn’t matter, it’s not a subject she has any interest in, she chose drama because she didn’t want to do anything else from other options!
Just left to school with friends to collect the paper-result.
The one that matters for her are all very good. And a 9 in both Eng lang and Lit, she was so stressed that her teacher is not good and so many ppl in her school get lower grade in Eng, convinced me to find her a tutor. I am so glad I did ( she had 6 in mocks, even though tutor says otherwise)

DD very disappointed. Was predicted a 7 for Eng Lit/Lang but got a 5 which is a massive shock to her and she worked incredibly hard!
Passed everything, has been accepted onto chosen A levels, but I think she has hoped for As in there, but has a mix of high/low B grades, which was actually a shock to both of us

This was us last year. DS got a 5 in Eng Lit, he'd got a 7 in his mock and prediction was an 8. We were expecting it to be one of his highest grades. School sent it for a remark but it came back unchanged. A year on he still remarks on it with annoyance but it's one of those things. Glad she got on to her chosen A Levels as that's all that matters really at this stage.

Techno56 · 22/08/2024 11:48

We were first in line at 7:53 this morning (my son's friend said I'm embarrassing but my own child doesn't seem bothered by me...haha) and he got everything pretty much as expected.

3 9s 3 8s 3 7s and a 6. A level subjects are the top ones, so all good. Scraped into the grade on a couple, so no re marks here (relieved this doesn't feel necessary) and feels like a true reflection of his ability and effort. He's quietly pleased with himself.

Enrolled for sixth form and just waiting to see if he gets computer science as it will be over subscribed.

What a relief. I feel for you all who are disappointed and hope you can find next steps that make everyone happy x

Dd got 6s (double science) in all but two then 7 in RS and 8 in French. I’m super pleased as she was eating 500 calories tops a day for months beforehand and it was real touch and go as to whether she’d have the energy to even sit the exams. It’s more than enough to prove she can do A levels and her current school said because she was so ill they’d take her even if she failed everything. So as long as she continues to get better she will be on track for really good grades in 2 years.

cosietea · 22/08/2024 11:51

3's and 2's ( mostly expected) but considering some of their mocks were 1's they've made better progress which I am proud of.

It's sad they feel the need to hide their results and not partake in the normal celebratory stuff. It's a very different story when they don't pass and feel worthless

Anyone know what a P means under endorsement grade?

Is that English Language?

P = Pass, M = Merit, D = Distinction

Amoregelato · 22/08/2024 11:52

3 x 9, 1 x 8, 4 x 7, a 6 and a 5. DD is disappointed which is crazy. She doesn't care about the 5 as she feels she was lucky to pass that subject but she doesn't feel the 7's are good enough. Does anyone else's DC feel like this? In old money she's got 4 x A* 4 x A and 2 B's. I'd have been over the moon. I feel like the numerical system somehow makes it less of an achievement for her.

madnessitellyou · 22/08/2024 11:54

Six 9s an 8 and a 7 (they only do 8 at her school).

Absolutely thrilled for her!

JobQuandary · 22/08/2024 11:55

Mainly 8's here with one 9, a couple of 6's and a 5 (French).

The two 6's she got 9's in the mocks and both teachers pulled us aside and asked to send them for a re-mark as they think they were
graded too low. So, we'll see! She did well though and has been accepted for the A-levels she wanted to do.

MonkeyTennis34 · 22/08/2024 12:00

6s, 7s, 8s.
English Literature was one mark off a 9 so we'll go for a re-mark.

Really pleased for her! And that she gets to stay at her school for 6th form.

Well done everyone 😀

Dibblydoodahdah · 22/08/2024 12:05

I’m not a year 11 mum but my DS took his first GCSE (German) in year 9 and got a 9. I am so very proud. He was still only 13 when he took the exams as he’s an August birthday.

Oops dd also got a 7 in English lit. Ironic that she found this harder than language and she’s doing the latter at A level.

TravellingSpoon · 22/08/2024 12:07

DD di one early entry GCSE this year (R.E) and has got a grade 8. She felt she had done terribly compared to her mocks so she is super happy and I am really proud, especially as her Dad was being a real dick around exam time whicj have her added stress. Knob.

This will give her much more confidence going into year 11.

muggletops · 22/08/2024 12:09

Wow some impressive results here. Well done to all who sat the exams. I (child of the 70's) remember when someone got straight A's in exams they were interviewed on Wogan!! :-)

Popfan · 22/08/2024 12:09

Much relief and happiness here! DS who has dyslexia and did not enjoy academic learning AT ALL passed both maths and English with 4s and also has another 3 at 4 and above. Believe me, this is like getting 9s for him. We focused on these 5 and had tutors for maths and English and thank goodness! He's off to do carpentry and doesn't have to do retakes or ever sit through a maths or English lesson again and I never have to nag him ever again about school work.

He actually got a 6 in his English lang mock and then sobbed after the paper 2 in the real thing thinking he'd failed so we are more than happy with the 4.

Such a massive massive relief.

This is for OCR, other Boards will have theirs on-line too, you need to know the specific papers though and some look very complex!

School also told him before he left that they were going to be requesting some of his exam papers.

Jellybeanz456 · 22/08/2024 12:12

Can any one tell me what a *1 means ds got it for pe after getting great marks in mocks and excepting a high pass mark for it but I have no idea what this means has he failed it? literally no idea

Johaanah · 22/08/2024 12:13

DD passed everything except maths, which means she can't to the sixth form she had her heart set on - or any sixth form, I feel so sad for her, even with good passes in every other subject she won't be able to continue the path she had hoped, she now feels like she's failed completely.

We now need to try and find a college somewhere that she can actually get to as we live rurally and public transport is very limited.

Waspie · 22/08/2024 12:21

DS got his points to accept his offer for Reading School (offered 64 points from top 8 and got 69).

He got a couple where he's on a grade boundary and the school will ask for the papers to review, but it doesn't matter because he has the grades for his next step. We're so proud of him.

His friends all seem to have got the grades they needed for their chosen sixth forms which is wonderful. There don't seem to be any plans to celebrate today - I think they are all just relieved it's over.

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/08/2024 12:21

Well done to your ds @Popfan. My dd has a couple of lovely friends, who are less academic and one hasn’t passed anything so he has done really well.

I am sorry to hear that @Johaanah ❤️

FerminRomeroDeTorres · 22/08/2024 12:22

4Astar & 5A here - absolutely delighted.

Only a few marks off an Astar in one of the As, but not close enough to get a remark (esp as all the marks would have to come from 1 paper), and all others were strong A, and not close to grade boundaries at either end so really quite pleased to not even be considering remarks.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 22/08/2024 12:22

Well done to your young people and you amazing parents too for staying sane (ish).

When we first got up I think I felt the most nervous I ever have in my life bar the moment when contractions started just over 16 years ago Grin

DD passed the lot and even got a few 6a and 7s which was a lovely surprise.

Best of all though was she got 4 in maths after struggling all through school and getting a 2 at Christmas mocks. I almost burst into tears when she read that one out ... honesty for her, this result is like another kid getting a 9, the effort she has had to put in.

Also very pleased to be told by school that to go into 6th form it's not essential to resit which has been criteria if a 5 wasn't achieved.

They are hugely recommending/pressuring this however as they say without a 5 whatever she does after A levels and regardless of what she chooses after this 4 will massively hold her back.

Any thoughts from you more informed folks? Surely if she's looking at uni and has the points she needs a low gcse pass in a subject not even linked to studies, should not hold her back?

Likewise the f she looks a job after and has decent A levels a "weaker " (their words) maths pass won't go against her?

Because as much I think she bloody amazing getting what she did I'm not optimistic she can push up to a 5.

Will they not let her retake maths in sixth form? I really feel for her.

ours is obviously not as selective as they will allow maths and English as a retake.

Sadly not, I even double checked with the head of sixth but they won't budge, we also reached out to two sixth forms that she could travel to relatively easily and both said it was a deal breaker. Frustrating for DD as she wanted to study dance, drama and RP, so no maths actually involved.
