Sat waiting. Loads have kids have come out, mixed bag of happy and sad

Feel sick. Worried poor results as taking so long.

Countrylife2002 · 22/08/2024 09:42

DD went in ages ago planning to come out and open in the car but hasn’t come back. Really worried now as I’m sure she’d message me if good

Sparklingwineandcheese · 22/08/2024 09:47

DD very disappointed. Was predicted a 7 for Eng Lit/Lang but got a 5 which is a massive shock to her and she worked incredibly hard!
Passed everything, has been accepted onto chosen A levels, but I think she has hoped for As in there, but has a mix of high/low B grades, which was actually a shock to both of us

ChishiyaBat · 22/08/2024 09:48

We are back, he got 2 out of 3 that he needed, but I am unsure of what happens now. He has to go to enrollment in college on Tues, so i'm hoping they'll still let him on the course and resit the maths that he needs. He had a b in physics, merit in engineering and needed a c or above in maths, but got an e, i'm gutted for him.

Dragonsandcats · 22/08/2024 09:50

All good here too except Lit and Lang which were a bit disappointing.

JugglingMummyof2 · 22/08/2024 09:52

Gosh @chickletickle I feel your stress.
DD1 was in a similar position, not a private school but her state school requirements to keep her 6th form place and minimum 8's for her A Level choices, 6 years ago and I still remember the pressure not to drop the ball on any one of them.
Good luck to her and to everyone's DC today.

No sign of DS even waking up yet 🙄

Same here. Meant to be getting to school at 9:30, but he's huffing and puffing under his blanket at the indignity of having to get up earlier that 11 in the 6 weeks.

He's a bright boy but so fucking lazy it's unbelievable. Capable of 9s easy, but wouldn't be surprised if he's totally failed himself. It'll take every inch of restraint to not say I told you so if that's the case.

PinkChaires · 22/08/2024 09:56

OMG DD GOT A 9 in lit. She got a 3 in march mocks!!

WhereAreWeNow · 22/08/2024 09:56

DD went in at 9.15. I know they got results at 9.30am. She said she would text me but nothing yet. I'm going out of my mind. On the plus side, I've been stress cleaning and have hoovered the whole house 🤣

Itssamemario · 22/08/2024 09:58

Oh and congratulations to everyones children here, no matter what their results.

Also, wasn't 07/08 only like... 5 years ago?! 🤔😆

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/08/2024 09:59

DS has just woken up and got into the shower.

I think his friends will be long gone at school and he’ll be collecting his results with the year 10s who aren’t allowed in until 10.30.

I’m very impressed by how spectacularly unbothered he is!

Redskyat620 · 22/08/2024 10:01

My DD got all she needed to get into her chosen 6th form. Maths was low but she expected that. Out of interest how did others DC do in Maths?

StarShipControl · 22/08/2024 10:02

Mediocre results here. Has enough to do the A levels he wants, fingers crossed.
Enrolling today.

shams05 · 22/08/2024 10:05

Ok so Ds is still inside but he's sent me a picture of his results sheet. All good in sciences and maths, he's still waiting for his history results which is why he's not out.

Twinkletows · 22/08/2024 10:06

Results could be collected from 8:00 at our school, got there 8:20ish.... Collected envelope and told to go speak to deputy head (aaaah!!!!)
45 minutes waiting outside his office

Got in there and told he didn't meet the usual criteria for entry but due to high scores in what he wanted to study they would offer him a place anyway.

He went on to say why he didn't meet criteria and it turns out they had made a mistake and hadn't included one of his GCSEs on the spreadsheet...so he did actually meet criteria and we didn't need to go speak to him.

Off we toddled to enrolment and luckily his friendship group are all moving up to sixth form too.

my dd got a grade lower then expected at maths …. She’s had two years of private lessons as well as classes at school so we were expecting the higher grade.
she’s still passed that’s the main thing.

sprinklesandtwinkles · 22/08/2024 10:10

Ds got eleven 9's and two 8's. Super relieved. Good luck to everyone!

Countrylife2002 · 22/08/2024 10:11

Phew all good here, she did better than hoped!! That was a nerve wracking time !

Spacecowboys · 22/08/2024 10:19

One mark away from the next grade up in four subjects. He’s disappointed. Doesn’t affect A level choices but school have already said they’ll get the papers to look at. I’ll get him to speak to them when he starts sixth form.

Taylorontour · 22/08/2024 10:20

@Redskyat620 a 4 in maths here. We were hoping for a 5 so disappointed. Ok in rest of subjects though (5s and 6s and one 7). It’s maths she is focussing on though. 😢

PinkChaires · 22/08/2024 10:22

Dd two 9s with the rest 7 except from maths and psychology with 6. Psych was a bit of a shock as last time she got an 8 and she wants to do it for alevel but doesn't stop her from being happy

I have been lurking on here as DD just finishing year 10.....but she has sadly starred self-harming which we believe is due to the pressure of up-coming exams. Sorry to jump on, but I wondered if any if you had such issues and NY suggestions you has for helping to manage the stress? Thanks in advance....

Yes, forgot to add, since my dc nosebleeds and headaches and brain zaps started, we went to the GP who immediately started pushing antidepressants on her. She kept saying I am not depressed, I am worried about the grades I need to achieve to get onto the course. No understanding on the part of the GP at all, none. 'You are depressed' going on and on. Could do nothing about nose bleeds from stress and brain zaps, but our Polish neighbour, believe it or not, helped with sleeplessness. She gave us very strong valerian root for boiling and drinking before bed (not the Boots stuff, but actual root, gnarled and pungent) and when we ran out, we bought it online - valerian root at least knocked dc out when preparing for her exams, she had some sleep. Obviously it is not great as with any medication, herbal or what-not, but at least she could sleep at night, it knocked her out. I have no other coping strategies apart from be there for her (I could not, I work away) and just know it will pass, one day it will be behind you.

OMG DD GOT A 9 in lit. She got a 3 in march mocks!!

That so takes me back 60 years, that can't be right surely(!), I got about 12% in my German mock and the teacher advised me to drop it and concentrate on other weaker subjects. No way I said, thinking I've put up with 4 years of you! I got a 3, then the 3rd highest grade, when I went into the 6th Form in September, not for German, she never once said Well done to me.

BrieHugger · 22/08/2024 10:27

Where do we find grade boundaries?

Pretty much exactly what my DD got. She knew she wasn't going to do well in Maths and was so despondent when she came out.
