I just completed Wordle in 2, surely this is a sign of good things to come 🤪

I've done all five of the mumsnet puzzles in 35 mins, 46 seconds. 😀 I'm sure I wasn't this nervous about my own results.

chickletickle · 22/08/2024 06:35

Good luck everyone! And their kids of course! I think like everyone has said this feels like such a culmination of years of encouragement and input, and overall we just want our kids to come out of that school happy and proud of themselves. My DD has been offered a full scholarship for a private school sixth form if she gets 7-9 in everything so there is a lot riding on today. Hence up early feeling a bit sick! 😂 but I’m sure what will be will be and they will all be fine whatever the outcome. Hope everyone has a great day, and whatever happens just give them a huge hug!

Tebheag · 22/08/2024 06:39

Wow just seen news article forgot how high the grades where last year. Really feel our kids got the raw end with grading as they had to learn teach themselves some of the basics at home.

TinfoilTangerine · 22/08/2024 06:47

Happy Birthday Jessycar.

Good luck to everyone for today.

If the grades have gone back to 2019 that is fair imo. If the kids are shaky on basics due to y7/8 then if anything you would expect their grades to be below 2019 levels.
2020 and 2021 are the uplift years, 22 and 23 are settling back down, 2019 and 24-> are meant to be the norm.

Been awake since 3am - a combination of Covid and looming results I think. DH now up and he’s waking DD. We’re leaving to head into school at 8.30am. I’m glad I’m feeling better than I was yesterday afternoon/evening, but so conscious of still being contagious, so while I’ll be going in with DD, I’ll be keeping my distance from everyone as I’d hate to ruin the start of 6th form for anyone. It’s a quick turnaround here with school starting on Tuesday, and in fact our new first years are in tomorrow.

I know DD will have done well - she is bright and has been consistent throughout the 2 years, and worked incredibly hard - and to be honest any grades are fine for us - we’re just so proud of how hard she worked, but I want the high grades for her sake because I don’t want her to be disappointed.

From a teacher’s perspective, I’ve been up since 4, set up my classes on the results pages and nervously awaiting the results at 8.

After that, I might have some breakfast, then head in for results at 1000 in school.

Looking at some of the mark schemes for the papers, I’m hoping the kids RTFQ*!

Awake :) DD is not a morning person at all, also think she's coordinating the time we go in with her friends so have said I will be guided by her today, now the days here I feel I need one more day myself to prepare!!

WhereAreWeNow · 22/08/2024 07:15

Are any of you planning nice things to celebrate/commiserate? I've been talking to DD about going out for a nice meal tonight or something but she doesn't seem keen.

wlv12 · 22/08/2024 07:21

We’re going out for dinner tonight, a restaurant of DS’ choice.

He’s actually nearly 18, year 12 not 11 but we were told he’d likely never do any GCSE’s but his history teacher thought he had a chance so we entered him expecting him to refuse but he did it! We are already beyond proud but I am so nervous and anxious this morning - I just want him to pass for him but if he doesn’t then I’m just so proud he did it.

I’ve really enjoyed reading this thread and hope everyone has lots to celebrate soon!

RachelGreensHair · 22/08/2024 07:26

We're having a family meal tonight. Then we're away over bank holiday weekend for some post-birthday treats.

Regardless of grades so important to remember they're the cohort who only had six months of year 7 before lockdown, multiple days off for school strikes etc, so the evening is a celebration of that tenacity.

Xhakalaka · 22/08/2024 07:26

I always think results day should be a sunny day. It's raining here 😞 oh well just have to get wet waiting outside now. Good luck

stopscrollingandgettowork · 22/08/2024 07:30

Heard dd alarm going off, she’s switched it off and gone back to sleep.
I meanwhile have been awake ages ..

Gunnersforthecup · 22/08/2024 07:39

We have bought a campervan and are heading to a festival at first light tomorrow. It is a useful distraction. Good luck everyone

Waspie · 22/08/2024 07:39

Morning! I have been awake for ages too - DS is still asleep though. He took a Kalms at about 1am so I think that has helped.

He's meeting his friends at 9.30am when school opens. He's not sure if he will grab and run, or open with his friends. I think it will depend how they all feel.in the moment.

Happy birthday @JessyCarr a double celebration for you today!

All the best for our DC today. They've worked so hard and gone through so much stress and disruption to get to this point. Good luck everyone!

I didn’t sleep until about 2am. Kept running through the different scenarios in my head. The one where he exceeded his predicted grades and we were amazed, the one where he gets his predicted grades which he will be disappointed about but everyone will put a happy face on and then the one that I’m thinking is more and more possible where he hasn’t done as well as predicted. I know whatever I say in any of the scenarios will annoy him.

good luck all - we’ve still got a couple of hours to wait

BlackBean2023 · 22/08/2024 07:53

Just dropped DD off. Everyone else seems to be going in with their parents but DD has told me she doesn't want me to come in and I'm to stay in the car. Sad

Feel sick. I've asked her to text me a smiley face if she's got into the sixth form - grades are secondary...

socks1107 · 22/08/2024 07:53

Good luck to everyone this morning!

My youngest collected hers two years ago and passed three!! She had really struggled and was later diagnosed with irlens. She worked hard but couldn't transpose what she knew into paper.

But I wanted to post and say whatever today is it does not define their future. My daughter went to a new sixth form, re sat some GCSE's alongside her level 3 btecs and was offered her first choice university last week.
Whatever they get today there are options and choices.

Thinking of you all

gingercat02 · 22/08/2024 07:54

I slept like a log (might be wine induced) until 6am, which is unusual. I'm a terrible sleeper normally.
We're all up, waiting for DS friends to collect him on the way to school.
I've just asked how he will let us know and been told he can't possibly plan that!

Just putting these here- it's from the TES and shows what our DC have been through to get to this point.... really puts it in some context.
Good luck all
