Can't sleep 😵‍💫

GlomOfNit · 22/08/2024 00:44

Well I'm still up! Grin MUST stop working myself up. DS is really very chilled, though I think it suddenly struck him that it was actually a few hours away from the 22nd, it was actually here. We have had a relaxing week so far: he's mostly pursued a hobby in his room, but we had an outing yesterday that he enjoyed, and this evening we watched a film he loves that he really wanted us to see. I think he's confident, bordering on a bit naive, and I'm scared he'll fall a bit short of his expectations and be gutted - but he won't hear us trying to mitigate possible shortfalls.

He really ought to be able to do his chosen subjects, anyway - he needs 6s in Biology and Chemistry (plus 6 in one other science per A Level) and a 6 in History. I was just looking at the requirements at the 6th form at his school and it's only Maths and Economics which stipulate higher than that. It's a really good 6th form though, and they get consistently high grades.

He has no Plan B. He wasn't interested in viewing other 6th forms, he really wanted to stay put. So. 😬

Good luck, everyone!

I've just watched Celeb Race Across the World & Flintoff's Field of Dreams and both have made me cry. But feel like I needed a cathartic cry. Whilst the GCSEs are all about our children, it is a milestone as a parent and for me it's reflecting on that journey as a single parent, the juggling of work n school n clubs n tuition n summer clubs and everything else... done our part to get them here and now the world is theirs as they become young independent adults. Good chance I will cry again tomorrow, but need to get myself to bed now :) much love and hugs to all the amazing parents on this thread x

Ds can't sleep and neither can I!
So nervous for him.
I asked him what he'd like for his celebratory meal tomorrow and he replied "I might not be celebrating". Oh dear.

Countrylife2002 · 22/08/2024 01:42

DD has just walked in the door. I was going to get up early to walk the dog pre results but I think he’ll have to do without!

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/08/2024 02:25

I can’t sleep. These exams and from the start of year 11 things became increasingly difficult. Dd doesn’t seem to care less. She was out with a couple of friends until midnight and a boy she briefly dated, who has tried to get back with her a few times... notably 3 weeks before she sat her exams when she was so ill.🙈 He and his friend walked past the house a couple of times earlier apparently and dd saw him so went to the park. He’s got a girlfriend now but from his behaviour I’d say he’d rather be with her. I think she’s enjoying the adulation but I am happy it’s just hanging out as she’s still really not well. It was touch and go as to whether or not she’d even sit the exams because she was in the throes of anorexia and eating only about 500 calories a day. She’s eating a lot, lot more now, physically recovering well but still very mentally ill.

Anyway I’m waffling as I’m nervous. Good luck everyone.

BlackBean2023 · 22/08/2024 04:22

Wide awake. Waiting for signs that DD is also awake and we'll go down and watch Gilmore Girls to pass the time (3 hours 39 minutes).

She worked so hard that the grades are secondary for me - I just want her to be happy. Like a PP said this feels like a milestone as a parent - DD is the eldest so this is the culmination of 12 years schooling from phonics to SATs to 11+... I'm not ready!

peanutcookie · 22/08/2024 05:16

I'm another who is wide awake. DS is quite nonchalant about the whole thing. We had a chat yesterday about plan B in case things don't go quite how he wants. His school allows you to change on the day. Parents usually hang about outside though he has decided he will go in himself and doesn't want to be accompanied. I teach at the school too so I will be in earlier to see the kids as they come in so I'll be there anyway (watching him from a distance). Results from 8.30 and enrolment from 9 so hopefully we are all done and dusted quickly. He has picked a restaurant for lunch so we will all head off there.

bluefineliner · 22/08/2024 05:29

Morning everyone,

I am a normal early riser but have been awake even earlier still today. DD still asleep, which is the best place for her for now.

Just seen the first BBC report on the pending results and it brought a lump to my throat! Not long now though.

Good luck to all the students (and supporting parents 😁). I'll check back in after we find out.

Spacecowboys · 22/08/2024 05:32

I’m also wide awake, not long now.
Good luck to all your DCs.

Panic71 · 22/08/2024 05:54

I’m not sure it this link will work but I thought it sums up the build up process and how much encouragement and support we’ve given our DC - and each other!

i am awake and worrying. DD has set her own bar so high I worry there will be upset as not everthing will necessarily have gone to plan. She should get into college so first world problems really (and the college are flexible on courses if not - we are so lucky here I realise).. Then she has an extension program offer to meet - again I think this should be ok but she will be devastated if not. Then there is her own minimum requirement to be happy and who knows if she has pulled that off. Two hours to go………

BlackBean2023 · 22/08/2024 06:08

Still no sign of DD waking up which is good - she'd only be stressing.

I'm debating whether to get up and stress clean for an hour - I think I'm too twitchy!

Tebheag · 22/08/2024 06:11

Good morning had DS come into our room a couple of times last night to talk then last conversation said not sure if I want to go early to get them as can still hope for English pass but once I have opened the envelope that's it.
Look forward to hearing lots of good news later. Of to do work to take my mind of it.

JessyCarr · 22/08/2024 06:11

Morning all. It’s my birthday! My only wish is that all our teens get what they need and are happy and proud of their achievements. Here’s hoping 🤞

I want to stress clean but know DS will wake up. Thanks to a creaky door downstairs and landing floor.

Tebheag · 22/08/2024 06:16

@JessyCarr Hapoy birthday hope you have a lovely day.

JessyCarr · 22/08/2024 06:18

@bluefineliner @Tebheag Thank you! Forty years ago today I received my O-level results in the morning post, together with my National Insurance card (and of course some birthday cards). My mum arranged the envelopes by my place on the breakfast table.

GoodnightJude1 · 22/08/2024 06:20

I’ve been awake since 4am…..DD sleeping soundly, completely unbothered by it all.
She should be fine…mocks were great but you never know!
Good luck to everyone’s DC collecting results today!

BlackBean2023 · 22/08/2024 06:25

Happy Birthday @JessyCarr Cake

Panic71 · 22/08/2024 06:26

Anyone else feel totally exhausted!

Techno56 · 22/08/2024 06:27

I just completed Wordle in 2, surely this is a sign of good things to come 🤪

WhereAreWeNow · 22/08/2024 06:29

I've been awake since 4.30 just feeling generally stressed and worried.
I think DD will be fine - she did well in mocks - but obviously I could be wrong. I just need to know now.

She's also undecided between a couple of 6th forms and she has to enrol in person this morning so I'm worried about that.

Good luck everyone.

Meadowfinch · 22/08/2024 06:29

My DS needs 7s in Maths, Physics and DT, and a 5 in English language.

He seems completely unfazed by this. Anyone would think a 7 in physics is a walk in the park. I gave up physics in disgust when I was 13.

I'm trying to copy his lack of concern. And trying to decide where to take him for a celebratory brunch.
