I have a lot to say, don't know if anyone remembers the thread. Let me know if you want to hear from me.

It's like when I was in banking, and let's say the retail sales report comes out. The Commerce Department has, I think, over a thousand people it sends to retail stores to ask questions: "How much have you sold compared to last month? How many customers have you had compared to last month?" and so on. And then they report: Retail sales in the US are down 0.2% on the month.

And then some ignorant poster on mumsnet says: "That can't be right. I was in a Gap store down the street on Saturday and it was jammed."

The ignorance of the average person is truly shocking.

Does anyone remember the episode of AbFab when Saffie gives Edie the 'Lacroix' earrings? And then says maybe she put 'ordinary' earrings in a Lacroix box, and Edie can't decide whether she likes them, because she only liked them if they are expensive and designer and can't just like/dislike them just for what they are? OP reminds me of Edie 😂

Personally my definition of 'success' is as much- more? - about what you achieve for others.

But OP and her son are happy, so good for them. Other people have other values and definitions of 'success'

“I’m not looking to be adversarial.”

”Will someone bring me a worthy adversary?”

😆

The definition of "fake news". This lovely lady did not include my comment:

"I am not looking for an adversary".

Did you?

Nice one, OP.

The last time I saw this level of trolling was when a certain poster started a thread on UPVC windows on a Doctor Who forum. wipes eyes

TheBossOfMe · 09/07/2024 15:21

@statesmom You really have a huge EQ problem - how unbelievably tone deaf are you?

Oops. I mistyped on my phone. The point re your contradicting yourself still stands.

You’re doing really well.👏

The ignorance of the average person is truly shocking.

I have to say I've seen some intelligent comments on here - and some which are far from it. I'll leave everyone to draw their own conclusions on which posters display "truly shocking" levels of ignorance. I think I can guess............

I was lucky enough to work in international development, in countries where huge numbers of the population don't have access to dry, secure housing, decent education, basic health care etc

Every day I am grateful that DD and I have those things, my salary covers my bills and allows some extras.

I don't need to shore up my self-esteem by insisting DD and I are better, achieving more, superior to the rest of the world.

There will always be people with more than you, or less than you. If that affects your self-esteem so.much I feel rather sorry for you.

Not that you will care about that! All the best to you and your DS

alldayeveryday247 · 09/07/2024 15:37

I've asked this a number of times OP and while you are of course not obliged to reply, I wondered if it's made you think at all...

...if so many people (on this thread alone) have taken issue with the way you communicate, do you think that the issue may actually be your style of communication, rather than them just being jealous of you?

Absolutely this!! 😂😂😂

Look at the holiday entitlement of the jobs - this is where wealth lies. No European young person wants the US lifestyle/work load and 10 days leave a year - The top choice of students are negotiating contracts with nuance to meet their needs. The rest of the world sees the US as batshit, frankly. What is the point in a palatial home or millions when you don't know your own kids and think success is your bank balance not your overall level of contentment.

I am not looking for an adversary, but due to a ton of insecurity, relative poverty and ignorance there have been many adversarial posts.

I'm just looking to help, people. I come here once every 10 years.

We are all in your debt statesmom, how incredibly generous of you to grace this thread with your, *ahem, wisdom and intelligence.

Shall I translate?

You are a vile person who only cares about money.

Ok. If that is what you take from it.

Other people have different values.

You and you DS have what you want and value, all good!

DDberzatto · 09/07/2024 17:04

And this is how I definitely know @statesmom is one of the ‘intense’ moms I avoided at Westminster. Even when you have politely put an opposing view to them, they are still hounding you at the next cellarium coffee morning/history tour/MMC recital to tell you how you were mistaken… oh, and I would imagine the reason for the intensive tuition is because her PFB was not chosen for college (i.e. the brightest kids in the year) 😉

FFSWherearemyglasses · 09/07/2024 17:07

Addressing us all as “people” …. More annoying than any of the blah content 🥴

That's well said.

OP, the problem is you are determined that you have the right argument: America is the best place for anyone to start their career and the best place to have a life because its wealth and the opportunities it offers.

Everyone else is trying to tell you, they don't agree and they have their own ways of measuring the best place for them to have a life and to let their children to grow up and become adults.

You can keep your view to guide you and your children. But no need to prove others are wrong or convince others to agree you are right. That will never be possible. Because? Because we are different! What you see important not as important to others.

statesmom · 09/07/2024 18:28

There seem to be a bunch of left wing people on this site, you know, advocating for killing unborn children and disarming the public.

OK people, why don't you listen not to me, but to our new Labour Chancellor:

Rachel Reeves warned that Britain’s new Labour government has inherited “the worst set of circumstances since the Second World War”.

This dilapidated nation which I call home has a lower per capita GDP in 2024 than it had in 2007:

I think there are some demented people here, who if in reality were able to relocate to Seatle tomorrow, would rip your arm off for the opportunity. But they have to convince themselves that their lives of quiet desperation are far superior to Palo Alto and Miami.

Maybe it's wonderful in Glasgow and Middleborough? Yeah, tons of Yanks applying to move to Clacton. Future of the world there: tech, AI, you name it!

OP posts:
Rekka · 09/07/2024 18:34

Are you trying to tell people to leave this country? 😂 No, thanks. Until zombies infest this land and elsewhere it's safer, this is still a better place than most. You don't see trump as a bigger problem than anything else. That's your own view.

Baital · 09/07/2024 18:36

Well, I did work for a time in the USA (Pennsylvania, not Seattle). I didn't enjoy it, people were too self-centred.

What’s wrong with saying that London is a good place to live and work? I think it is - and so must you since you do exactly that!

I think your values and the values of most of the people in the UK aren’t particularly aligned. And if you think gun ownership and being anti abortion is a good thing, I’m not sure why you live here.

You are putting lots of speculation just to show others are not genuine as you are and to explain away why people disagree with you. 🤣 Keep trying, OP, and try harder.
