Anyone nervous, slightly apprehensive?

OP posts:
Hopebridge · 01/03/2024 01:59

Mine didn't show on portal (still doesn't) I had a e mail so may be worth checking spam. With regards to appeals I think that if you start a thread mumsnet has lots of experts that will help.

We didn't get any of our three choices and have been given a school DC won't be going to under any circumstances. I'd rather home educate!

Have put new preferences down and gone onto waiting lists, so now more waiting for us. Really hope we find out soon. DC is an anxious type and will struggle with not knowing when many of his mates will. Thinking of appealing, has anyone done this successfully?

We're in the same position @Garlicnaan I don't think I'll get an appeal as its only really about distance for us. How have you got into wait lists, I've just emailed what I think the admission email address is but I'd like to speak to someone to understand where we are on the wait list but there's only a vm number so I don't know how you speak to people who can advise

Sorry to hear that. I feel like I really messed up not putting another school down that we might have had a better chance of getting into which actually my child quite liked.

All the wait list stuff is done on the website for us so I've just applied on there.

Good luck - I'm hoping by the end of the month we'll be in a better position but the wait is going to be really hard on us and DC. I'm already struggling with depression and I'm worried it's going to drag me down.

Garlicnaan · 01/03/2024 05:04

And yes I imagine it's incredibly hard to get an answer from admissions today!

CheesecakeandCrackers · 01/03/2024 05:10

I'm the same. Can't decide if I should have put our catchment down. The school we've been offered is smaller but results worse and has just got a new head. Ultimately DC won't be happy anywhere other than first choice so it probably makes no difference. I'm sad that they don't know the school or anyone going there at all but I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for a wait list place. No info at all on our website just a phone number where you can ring and leave a message if you want an appeal pack!

Thewaitisover · 01/03/2024 05:21

The results are in….we’re devastated to say the least. None of our 6 preferences offered. 4 of these were grammar as we scored over the qualifying score. The other 2 were local comps, one of these being a 10 min walk away. Been offered a school that’s 4.4 miles away and it’s awful. Any advice please?

Yuja · 01/03/2024 05:37

I've been able to login to the portal - In West Sussex. We have had our first choice - very relieved as we are right on the edge of catchment and DD will be delighted to go to school with her friends.

Hugs.are you also dreading sharing the news with DC?

Mayoontheside · 01/03/2024 05:42

For those who have not been offered their preferred school and wish to appeal, you should have info on your offer from your LA how to request a pack.
When appealing remember you are demonstrating why DC needs to be in that school - be mindful of slating the offered school as the panel will need to hear why DC should be admitted over number at the preferred school.
Also, there will be movement in the coming weeks. (Admissions and appeal mgr - working already emailing parents who have queried through the night!)

Thewaitisover · 01/03/2024 05:47

@CheesecakeandCrackers yes, so dreading it. I’ve been told that there’s lots of movement from now until as late as July, so I’m keeping everything crossed we have another offer x

NoWordForFluffy · 01/03/2024 05:48

Flametornado · 01/03/2024 00:30

I had to click on apply for a school place to be able to log in and then on view applications to see mine x couldn't log in any other way than clicking apply for a place X

Thanks for that tip, Sefton's portal is the same.

We got first choice, which was a relief, as they've cut a form for 2024 entry.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/03/2024 05:49

Oh no, @Thewaitisover. Good luck with the next step in trying to sort it out.

Ceebeegee · 01/03/2024 06:15

No email received in Nottinghamshire but went on the portal and saw the place offered. First choice. A massive sigh of relief.
Sending positive thoughts to those struggling with their places, and hope appeals sort it out .

Validus · 01/03/2024 06:15

@Thewaitisover that’s awful. Have you any grounds for appeal? Do the lists move much in your area?

We’re in a similar position (none of our 4 offered - not even the one that would have been a sure thing last year).

We have been offered a local sink school that has rubbish results and the teachers spend their time more on crowd control than learning. I wouldn’t choose to send any child there, and definitely not my SEN DD who is highly intelligent but needs order and calm.

Fortunately we have also been running private applications as a back up and can afford to do it, so she’s off to private instead.

Thewaitisover · 01/03/2024 06:21

@Validus I just don’t know what to think. I’ll need to find out what the last place offered is first in terms of the comps before we appeal. We are in catchment for the closest one, so will be interested to see why we’ve not been offered. Just hoping for another offer before September

Sammy900 · 01/03/2024 06:29

Good morning all. I'm sorry for those not getting the school they want this morning, my heart goes out...I was all ready to spring into action if our offer wasn't favourable but we've had good news, so really happy!

The only thing is on our portal you can't actually press accept, you only have the option for a response if you aren't happy otherwise it says "none".

In this instance how do I accept? Are we now waiting for a letter or email... I've emailed admissions to ask but I expect they'll be inundated today so might get a quicker response on here

Which local authority are you? Many local authorities don't need you to accept the offer, it is done automatically.

aquarimum · 01/03/2024 06:43

Cambridgeshire here - 3rd and shittiest choice. Now playing the waitlist game.

BaronessOrczy · 01/03/2024 06:48

Gloucestershire here. Been awake since the email arrived at 2am. DC going to be very upset. 5th and worst choice.

Waiting lists and crossed fingers it is then.

The email is a bit strangely worded - we have to accept the place but go on the waiting list otherwise we won’t have a school place at all, I think, from trying to decode it. Even if you don’t want the place!

Good luck I imagine today will be busy! I'm still waiting for an email so am keeping fingers crossed for movement but not got much hope. Everyone wants to go to the same school here!

Yes - regardless of whether you want the offered school you should accept the place and then go on waitlist for any other school you may want. In my area you are automatically placed on waiting list for anything you ranked above what you got offered.

I got my 4th choice and was offered 2&3 by mid April ish and I did get offered first choice just before the start of term.

itispersonal · 01/03/2024 06:57

Hugs to those whose children didn't get placed wanted!
Still awaiting for a result on the Notts portal!! Looking unlikely dd will know before she goes to school at 7.45

BaronessOrczy · 01/03/2024 06:58

Thanks @Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky

Just trying to figure out whether to appeal (bearing in mind what’s said upthread about cases for needing to go) or trust in waiting lists - slightly complicated by the fact my DC are twins so there’s double the pressure

RainsbowandBunnies · 01/03/2024 07:11

No result on our portal or email. Anxious to say the least x
