Anyone nervous, slightly apprehensive?

@RedFluffyPanda People move and forget too or assume the other parent did it, or don't speak English so don't realise they should confirm.. I knew an Ozzy parent once who knew they were moving back in Sept but held onto a school place in case it fell through as date depended on house sale etc.

mindutopia · 29/02/2024 16:49

In the past day or two, our online admissions portal has changed the offer day date from the 1st to the 2nd of March. I suspect (am hoping!) it's an error, though nothing would surprise me.

Anyone else's child picked a school for first preference where they will most likely know nobody? He was adamant and it's our closest school, and says hes not bothered going on his own. It's hit and miss if he will get it but I'm still nervous for him and hope if he does get it he won't end up having a wobble over it when they all find out where they are going!

Yes! So we are in catchment for our first choice but DD's junior school is a feeder for a different school. We are not in catchment but all her friends are. She really wants to go to first choice though. Is determined so I'm quite nervous we won't get it

Flametornado · 29/02/2024 17:07

Not be long now, my council updates the portal at midnight so I'm staying up to log on and see x 🤣

Oh! I wonder if ours does. I’ll have to stay up just in case!! 🤣

aquarimum · 29/02/2024 17:25

Another one staying up!

Do portals publish the place you are on a waiting list? Or do you have to phone around the schools?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/02/2024 17:27

We have found ours out today! We got the school we wanted

Not fair! How did you find out?

Rekka · 29/02/2024 17:41

I managed to stay cool up till today! Can't hold my nerve any longer!

And our council usually wouldn't release the results until around 5pm on the day! Still so long!

curiousmamma · 29/02/2024 17:49

We get an email at midnight so I'll be staying up too! Even though I'm certain I know which school we'll get I still would like to see it in black and white!

Mobey78 · 29/02/2024 18:09

We put closest school as 3rd choice. 1st choice is usually undersubscribed but local school has gone downhill significantly so more are applying to 1st choice this year that I know of.
2nd choice we should get a place based on faith criteria but 1st and 2nd choice schools are very different so I'm eager to find out which school DD will be going to.
DD isn't as keen on 2nd choice as no one from current primary would be going but I still think it would be a better fit for her than the local catchment school

PuttingDownRoots · 29/02/2024 18:18

I'm not staying up... the only way we haven't got our first and only choice is an error and there's nothing I can do about that at midnight.

I'm paranoid about the error though...

(We live about 100m away from the school, sibling attends, we are in the catchment area and she goes to the feeder school. Only 2 or 3 kids live closer....)

Awesome x great news x

Hopebridge · 29/02/2024 18:48

My daughters came through at 1:30am so I'm not staying up. If I wake in the night I will check

BlueskyBluesea · 29/02/2024 18:54

We don't get anything until after 5pm tomorrow

Mobey78 · 29/02/2024 19:04

Does anyone know if we get an email or do we have to keep logging in to check?

It will depend where you are. London and Surrey can log in after 5pm and an email will be send later.

BlowDryRat · 29/02/2024 19:22

Good job I saw this thread in Active. I had April 1st in my head for some reason.

I know DD has a place at the same school as DS so haven't been worrying for her at all. Her friend lives in a different area though so have my fingers crossed she gets a place at the same school.

Sunflowers189 · 29/02/2024 19:53

I checked the portal just in case the system didn’t log the leap year day ;)
Ofcourse if did but I thought there was hope!

I've checked already too x 🤣 midnight is so close yet so far away x 🤣

ThatsGoingToHurt · 29/02/2024 20:40

Good luck everyone for tomorrow 🤞

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/02/2024 21:47

@Littlecatsfeet logged on to the council portal thing where we made the application then later the email came through- after I'd already accepted it! Honestly try logging on. All of DD's classmates know.

Gladtobeout · 29/02/2024 22:00

Count your blessings you weren't waiting 2 weeks ago for the EHCP allocation of y7 places to be sent and hearing your local council would rather your 10yo stayed in mainstream despite being suicidal because she can't cope in mainstream primary (yet alone a secondary of 1000+). But at least if she's dead it won't cost the council anything! That's their one and only criterion for decision making.

DanceMumTaxi · 29/02/2024 22:01

Nothing here in Lancashire yet. It just says emails will be sent throughout the working day tomorrow.

Is that on the e-admissions thing? My borough seems to have another site you go to accept an offer but it asks for a pupil id and that's nowhere in the application Hmm
