Anyone nervous, slightly apprehensive?

Just to say again, I will keep an eye on this thread and will try to offer advice to anyone who is thinking of appealing. However, the most reliable way of getting advice from myself and other experts is to start your own thread with "appeal" in the title.

Out of 10000 children in our country 98% got into one of their preferences. Our DD and some of her classmates did not.
That works out at about 12 students from her class not getting their first or second choice.

Another long wait to appeal.

Filled my application online in time. Have email confirmation.
Live 0.3mile from school, North of England, well within catchment.
No offer, seems like council just didn't process it.
Have called them, they confirm all offers have been sent out, waiting for a call back. Any advice?

If they accept you submitted your application on time, they should offer you the place you would have got had they processed it correctly. If they try to do anything else, let me know, either on here or via PM, and I will advise on the next steps. If you let me know on here, tag me in your post so that I get notified.

Validus · 01/03/2024 16:30

Well. I’ve looked at the admissions stats for this year and can see now that the only schools we had a chance to access were the three that we identified as wholly unsuitable. Yay. The numbers seeking places have rocketed.

Glad to have a back up plan.

@prh47bridge
Thanks for this reply and your kind offer of advice.
They have already done what you said and given us a first choice offer. Very stressful but they made a mistake and put it right so can't say fairer than that.

That's good news. Pleased they did the right thing.

Just logged into eadmissions for London and we got first choice. Super happy! This was a random allocation school not based on catchment.

Thanks! Saw your post and logged in. We got our first choice too! Very emotional, as it was a very long and testing journey to get here!

NameChangingGame · 01/03/2024 17:48

Anyone having trouble with logging in? I can’t remember my password and the site can’t reset - keep getting an error message. I know it’s my own fault (made the application on another computer) but - arrgghh

JoannaDW · 01/03/2024 20:02

My daughter got her third preference. Although she is holding out for 1st and 2nd choice if there is waiting list movement, she is wobbling that her fourth preference should have been her third. She now wants to see if she can get on their waiting list. Anyone know if this might be possible?

Sunflowers189 · 01/03/2024 20:05

Honestly couldn’t be more upset, daughters friends all seem to have my daughters 1st choice even though it was lower down their list but they are all staying with it. My daughter is at a school with no one. Does anyone know when the second round starts.
could cry….again!

DanceMumTaxi · 01/03/2024 20:27

So sorry to hear about all the disappointment, really hope it works out well in the end. Ds got first choice, really pleased and it wasn’t certain because the school is massively oversubscribed, but we’re in a named parish/catchment and he has the necessary baptism certificate.

whiteboardking · 01/03/2024 20:46

@Sunflowers189 some LA don't have second rounds, some just process as they go along.
Where the friends put the school on their list doesn't matter under the system. They didn't get their first preference so got a lower one they were eligible for. They were more eligible than you.

Sunflowers189 · 01/03/2024 20:51

Oh yes I am fully aware they were more eligible but what I mean is what are the chances that her friends end up at the school she was hoping to be going to which was an unlikely situation and she has ended up at a school with no one.
It’s not the eligibility I am questioning just the luck of it..
our LA does have second rounds thankfully.

whiteboardking · 01/03/2024 21:11

@Sunflowers189 fingers crossed she's near top of wait list!

Secondary23 · 01/03/2024 22:20

For everyone who didn't get their choices please don't give up hope! Last year we didn't get any preferences and were given a school we really didn't want. My daughter was truly heartbroken as all her friends got their choices. After going on waiting lists we were offered 2nd choice in May and then our 1st choice end of June. We were thrilled and had all but lost hope but it was worth the wait (maybe not the stress!). I'll be going through it again in September although will hopefully have sibling link to help. Good Luck everyone & please don't give up as there is lots of movement between April & June

Moominmam · 01/03/2024 23:17

Does anyone know who to contact to find out place on waiting list? Directly with the school concerned? Or with the council’s admissions department? Presumably they will be inundated on Monday. Better to email??
thanks!

NameChangingGame · 01/03/2024 23:23

leave it a couple of weeks to let things settle. Then ring the admissions officer at your desired school and they will have the stats. From experience they are very open and helpful.

so yes I am waiting on a sibling offer but want to have confirmation. Still can’t get on to the Eadmissions site …

It should state on your offer letter. But email the council as they usually handle waiting lists on behalf of the schools.

Eastie77Returns · 02/03/2024 13:01

We got our second choice, phew. DD is hugely relieved as first on the list was the Grammar she didn’t want to go to and she is on the wait list there. Now she will be at a school with her friends. I’m happy as it’s a great school (from what I can see) and the Grammar would have been logistically difficult. That said, there is historically a lot of movement on the list as many kids have multiple offers or go private so not sure what we will do if she is actually offered a place.
