Commute to Hampton Boys ( If avoiding coach)

Hi Parents,
I would like to hear from parents whos DS is at Hamptons boys and do not use the coach. ( Thats an extra 2K). Any areas to live where the DS can take the public transport or Dad drives for 15 min ( occasions where Dad needs to drive for events and afer school sports). We got a few suggestions like

Teddington / Strawberry hill - These arears might not have a lot of life - might be more rural someone said.
Can DS commute from Kingston or Richmond using TFL. People said Kingston or richmond have a bit more life due to their town centres.

We will be relocating from Canary wharf. So its a big East to west move.

Not all primary and infant schools are outstanding. Carlisle feeder to HHJS is Good and then Buckingham is Good , St Richard's is Inadequate

I said good/outstanding. In any case, the definition of good/outstanding changed in 2019, when it became more difficult to get outstanding, so comparing reports can be like comparing apples and pears.

St Richards is in Ham, so unlikely to be on the op's radar, but in any case is rated Good, not inadequate.

JustWingItLifeEyelinerEverything · 27/10/2023 12:13

St Richard CoE Primary is on the border of Hampton/
Hanworth.
Carlisle was Good before and is Good now. Hampton Juniors is Good now. Hampton Hill is awaiting results

That St Richard's is over the borough boundary, in Feltham, and is also now rated Good as of March 2023.

Have you checked the journey time at school run time?

If I were to drive to DC school now it would take 10min. The morning round trip is close to an hour and 40 mins in the afternoon (they go by bus though)

JustWingItLifeEyelinerEverything · 27/10/2023 13:03

The only positive side of that 1h and 40 min (!) trip is that Hampton boys travel with LEH girls 😍. May keep them sane in these single sex schools

JustWingItLifeEyelinerEverything · 27/10/2023 13:20

@urbanesque yes but it is within the area where HB schools are... In case OP was planning to move to Hampton There are no sharp boundaries and people send kids to the closest school

Where do you live?
Is it 1 hour from teddington by car during rush hour. Am happy to park the car close to school in the side streets and walk.

how do school coaches get around with the traffic ? Ie do they use bus lanes or do they have a separate path ?
if the school coaches are late, the school cannot blame the child for being late :)

If a coach from richmond takes 25 min, i am a bit confused how the coaches do the magic of navigating during school rush hour

Presumably you mean 1 hour in the morning, and 40 mins in the afternoon, not 1 hour and 40 minutes. (A comma in the right place would have made it clearer 😁).

Probably because of the bus lanes.

No bus lanes in Hampton apart from very few places And because Hanworth Road is a nightmare in the mornings all busses are scheduled to come at a slightly different time and also they go slightly different roads around Hampton

I would agree that people shouldn't label a school according to Ofsted results. These are not reliable.

I know, but the op was asking about a bus from Richmond. 🙄There are bus lanes in Twickenham, which is a bottleneck between Richmond and Hampton.

JustWingItLifeEyelinerEverything · 27/10/2023 14:18

Ah got it. twickenham is a nightmare when it comes to traffic

I'm not convinced you're right actually, but you're definitely unpleasant.

I was asking about the school bus from richmond. Those times seem very reasonable inspite of horrendous traffic. So a bit baffled. Am i missing something

Eg - If i took the school bus, website states 25 min
If i took a TFL bus or drove to school, maybe 45 min

I live in Hampton and caught the train the day before yesterday to Waterloo.

Normally, I have to take an all stops one to Shepperton for the return, but as it was during peak hours, I noticed there were extra trains that went via Richmond and Twickenham instead of round the Kingston loop.

There is only one of these trains an hour unfortunately and only during peak hours, but it would have meant 34 mins instead of 41 mins journey time for me.

May I know what the times of these fast trains are? I could not find them from the timetable. Thanks!

It's the 5.39pm and 6.39pm from Waterloo to Shepperton

Thank you so much. Are there similar trains to Waterloo during earning morning?

Meredusoleil · 27/10/2023 15:55

The ones I saw were Monday-Friday at 17.43 or 18.43 from Waterloo.

Yes, see my post from this morning at 07:26, on page 1 of thread

Yes, you're right. I was using TfL journey planner which was adding a few minutes on to walk from the station entrance to the platform. But the departures are at 5.43 and 6.43.

The 8.09 from Hampton goes via Richmond and gets in to Waterloo at 8.45.

St richards (previously Forge Lane school) is just over the border of Hampton. It’s a 15 min walk from my house and I’m in Hampton
