Trinity & Whitgift 10+/11+ exams 2024 entry

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a new thread for those with children who are sitting for the 10+ Trinity and Whitgift exams this year.

I've been lurking for years reading through the 10+ and 11+ past threads, silently sharing in the anxiety, pain and joy of those parents that have come before me 😅.

I can't believe that the time is now here for my DS to sit the 10+ exams.

Are there any other parents that would like to jump on board this thread so we can support each other through the next few months?

Thank you @SunshineandRainbowMum ! Yes we are waiting for Trinity and Whitgift though DS first choice is Trinity.

Parkrun4 · 13/12/2023 09:31

Well done to all boys who got through to the interviews at City. I just had another look at email from City and acceptance day is 7th February. That is 2 days before Whitgift and Trinity post their offers. Anyone else noticed that?

LoveBlueCheese · 13/12/2023 09:32

Thank you @SunshineandRainbowMum ! We went ahead to film the pre audition music scholarship video for Trinity yesterday afternoon despite no word from Trinity. Hopefully something comes through today.

@Moresleepandwine , how are you preparing for the interview component? I've asked DS to read the papers more consistently now but also aware of him sounding too "rehearsed".

Moresleepandwine · 13/12/2023 10:21

@LoveBlueCheese , we are asking a secondary school student to do some 'mock' interviews with him. It's not so much a case of rehearsing but more helping him think of good examples to talk about. DS can sometimes act the comedian so I don't want him cracking jokes with the interviewer!

ModeWeasel · 13/12/2023 11:17

Good luck for anyone sitting Trinity 11+ today!

Yes strange that they didn't let you know before you had to do the pre audition. Hopefully we will hear something today.

I hadn't considered preparing DS for the interview, I didn't want to stress him out with what to do or say and wanted him to be his natural self. I may regret that though lol.

@SunshineandRainbowMum just had an email from the music administrator confirming receipt and nothing more to do until Spring term.

bigschoolsdilemma · 13/12/2023 17:14

Still nothing? The wait is killing me now...

SunshineandRainbowMum · 13/12/2023 18:05

Yep me too, it's so painful waiting. I really hope tomorrow is the day they send the email.

Just got the email - yay!! Anyone else?

Smorgas · 14/12/2023 12:29

We just had an email and DS has been invited to 10+ interview at Trinity in January. I hope others have had good news too.

LoveBlueCheese · 14/12/2023 13:19

DS also invited to the interview. Hoping others have positive news too.

Moresleepandwine · 14/12/2023 15:25

DS also has been invited to interview at Trinity.

@LoveBlueCheese , we have also received an interview slot from City. Have you heard from them yet?

LoveBlueCheese · 14/12/2023 15:33

@Moresleepandwine , yup we've booked our slot for City.

Bit of an abrupt email from Trinity I thought - "delighted to invite" followed swiftly by "our office is closed by end of today for the term"

😂

Pollypocket81 · 14/12/2023 15:49

@LoveBlueCheese your child must have done well to have "delighted to invite". Ours was slightly different wording although still has an invite.

Moresleepandwine · 14/12/2023 15:55

Lol, DS must have just scraped past the cut off then. He only 'performed well enough'. 😂

LoveBlueCheese · 14/12/2023 15:58

Hardly! Was the generic one - pleased to let u know. Sorry! City was the delighted to invite (I am juggling my younger child doing the 7plus so it has been really crazy with the emails). All the same, I thought it was a little funny almost like yah here's what u need to know now bye bye 🤣

SunshineandRainbowMum · 14/12/2023 19:24

Hey,
Congratulations to all your DS's, unfortunately my DS was not successful to interview stage, I am really gutted for him. He said that he found the Trinity exam easier than Whitgift and so I am not holding out much hope there either. I will reevaluate and hopefully try again next year for 11+ if I feel it is right for him.

Wishing all of your DS's the best of luck at their interviews in January.

@SunshineandRainbowMum I don't think it's time to throw in the towel yet. Wait for Whitgift to come back to you - it's all about relative performance to the cohort sitting the exam rather than how difficult the paper was. With computerised adaptive exams this is esp the case x

SunshineandRainbowMum · 14/12/2023 21:00

Thanks @LoveBlueCheese, DS has actually taken the news really well (much better than I did) which is a big relief. We are of course hoping that in January Whitgift is a more positive outcome. x

Moresleepandwine · 14/12/2023 21:08

Hi @SunshineandRainbowMum , sorry to hear that Trinity didn't work out. But Whitgift looks for a different type of child and it's not over yet. Good luck to your DS for Whitgift!

bigschoolsdilemma · 15/12/2023 08:36

So sorry @SunshineandRainbowMum but, as others have said, don't worry about Whitgift too much and assume it will be negative. From my experience with my older son who went through it all a few years ago, their perception of difficulty or how well they've done is often very misleading. Sometimes they find things easy only because they don't actually spot the difficulty in a question. And, the other way round. Sometimes they perform better in tests they find difficult.

SunshineandRainbowMum · 15/12/2023 08:53

Hey everyone,
Thank you for the messages, I was surprised that it affected me so much, but after speaking things through with DH I have gotten over myself lol.
Keeping our fingers crossed for Whitgift and if not we will see this year as a practice run and try again next year for the 11+.

Did Trinity give you a date for the interviews?

OP posts:
bigschoolsdilemma · 15/12/2023 09:50

No, they didn't. They just said they will be in touch on the 8th Jan or at some point that week. No dates for scholarship assessments either...

F1okoboji · 15/12/2023 13:47

Did anyone sit 11+ plus exam on Wednesday 13th?
