Trinity & Whitgift 10+/11+ exams 2024 entry

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a new thread for those with children who are sitting for the 10+ Trinity and Whitgift exams this year.

I've been lurking for years reading through the 10+ and 11+ past threads, silently sharing in the anxiety, pain and joy of those parents that have come before me 😅.

I can't believe that the time is now here for my DS to sit the 10+ exams.

Are there any other parents that would like to jump on board this thread so we can support each other through the next few months?

Did any other DS say that there were two questions the same on the maths problem solving as on the practise paper on the Trinity website? Worried mine saw a similar phrasing and just wrote the answer he remembered without working it out.

Yes my DS said there were a couple of questions the same as on the Trinity practice paper too.

Does anyone know roughly how many boys sat the 10+ yesterday?

OP posts:
RockaLock · 03/12/2023 12:48

Hi OP,

My DS1 was helping out yesterday and his instructions said c240 boys - but that will be across 10+ and 13+ (the majority will have been 10+, but I don't know the split).

expatinmys · 03/12/2023 12:56

DS did his exam today as we are based in the middle east. He said he couldn't complete the last 2 math questions maybe they were more difficult than usual but not sure. The creative writing was about wanting a pet. The maths problem solving was based on fractions. DS said the NVR was easier than what he has done previously with his tutor and on pretest papers.

LoveBlueCheese · 03/12/2023 18:03

Same thing from DS about the last 2 questions in the paper based maths. He couldnt really finish it so just made a good guess at the end.

About the creative writing and pet story...guess what DS wrote to the prompt "He always wanted a pet..."?

He actually wrote - He always wanted a pet but his parents wouldn't let him because he had to sit for his 10plus at Trinity school....

Omg!!! 🤣 He apparently then proceeded to write about the ups and downs of the prep process and sacrificing hobbies and ended off with a cliffhanger of results day and whether or not he'd get the pet.

I'm really not too sure what to think 😅

SunshineandRainbowMum · 03/12/2023 22:33

@LoveBlueCheese haha I love that, I bet you they have a good laugh reading his story, well done to your DS for being so creative with his writing.

My DS chose the "making a hard decision" option, creative writing is not his strength at all and it is the part that I'm really concerned about and even more so now lol.

I could not really get much out of him with regards to the content that he wrote other than he was transported by a spell to a magical place and was give the decision to make of unlimited amounts of money or all the Nintendo switch games ever 😕, I don't even know what to think haha, I guess that is his 9 year old gamer brain coming into play there . He did tell me though that he used good descriptive language, emotions, oxymorons, personification and similes.

Sooooooo, I'm holding out hope that even if the storyline doesn't make much sense, they might be able to forgive that if he has good enough language content 😅.

On a positive note, he said that the maths problem solving paper went well, the last 2 questions were a bit tricky but he attempted them and felt confident with the rest of the questions. He also felt the computer based tests went ok too.

@RockaLock thank you for this, it's nice to have a bit of an indication as to how many boys sat the test.

How long has your DS been at Trinity for?

SunshineandRainbowMum · 04/12/2023 17:57

I've just received an email from Trinity to say that they will be in touch again w/c 11th December to notify if invited to interview and of any scholarship assessments. So thankfully not that long to wait.

Would anyone know when we will get the result from Whitgift for 10+ please ? Thanks a million !

Badhippo · 07/12/2023 07:31

Invitations for interview will be sent from 8 January according to the email from Whitgift admissions team

SunshineandRainbowMum · 09/12/2023 08:59

Good luck to all of the boys sitting the Whitgift 10+ test today.

Moresleepandwine · 09/12/2023 17:59

How did everyone find the Whitgift test today? DS said the Thinking Skills section was much harder than he expected.

Parkrun4 · 09/12/2023 20:40

Same here in regards to critical thinking. Does anyone know how many places available for 10+. My DS thinks there were 400 boys sitting the exam today.

SunshineandRainbowMum · 10/12/2023 06:12

Feedback on the Whitgift exams from my DS was that he felt the English comprehension paper was easier than the sample paper on the website. He felt good about maths but said there were some challenging questions towards the end of the paper. He felt the critical thinking paper was significantly harder than he expected. He did manage to answer all of the questions though.

The overall feedback of both the Trinity and Whitgift exams was that he found Whitgift the more challenging of the two.

Well done to all of our DS's they are so young still and have given it their best shot, fingers crossed for positive outcomes for them all.

Hi,

I'm just wondering if anyone has information regarding the 10+ DT and Drama scholarships. Im asking for two friends who are not on MN but whose DS have applied for these.

On average, how many boys apply, how many scholarship offers are made at 10+?

Has anyone heard from Trinity yet? It's so hard when they tell us starting from Monday. I am already refreshing my email every 10 minutes. I don't know how I will survive the week!

SunshineandRainbowMum · 11/12/2023 23:34

I haven't heard anything yet. I was refreshing every 10 minutes too lol. Fingers crossed we get the email tomorrow.

DS has been shortlisted for the interview at City. Trinity ought not to be too far off. We got a pre audition music scholarship email from Trinity before the written exams with a deadline of today. Still not done the video as I'd like to know whether he's met the exam threshold 🤷🏻‍♀️

SunshineandRainbowMum · 12/12/2023 14:37

That's amazing news @LoveBlueCheese , congratulations to your DS.

This thread makes me smile every year when it pops up. My Trinity boys have now graduated from university but this always brings those years back 🙂

Good luck everyone!

Congratulations to your DS for getting through to next stage at City @Moresleepandwine 🙂.

Are you waiting to hear back from both Trinity and Whitgift? What is your DS first choice school?
