Just that really, we live very close to school, Ds has to collect in person, he was just going to walk in on his own, but then I thought will other parents go along for moral support 🤔Ds has said he doesn't mind either way.

We were away when my older Dd got her results by email, so don't know the norm for collecting in person.

Yes but the school made it clear they were expecting to see us

ScarlettDarling · 23/08/2023 20:23

No, my dd is meeting her friends and they’ll go in together.

My daughter has said apparently nowadays no parents go in with them! I think it is embarrassing 🤣

Felixinthefactory · 23/08/2023 20:24

I am as DD wants me to. Quite surprised as she's usually really independent!

BungalowBuyer · 23/08/2023 20:24

I think I waited in the car, definitely didn't go in.

ElfDragon · 23/08/2023 20:26

Yes, because dd2 goes to school a 35 minute drive away, with no direct transport links, so it’s the only way to get her there!

I expect I will drive her in, then hover around the car park with her friends’ mums while dd2 and friends go to get results together…

NancyJoan · 23/08/2023 20:27

I did last year. I would say almost all of the children had a parent there. Was a nice atmosphere, and coffee/pastries available too!

sequin2000 · 23/08/2023 20:27

As a teacher it's a mix, some alone, others with friends and some with a parent (usually mum). Those without parents usually call them from the school hall if they've done really well or really badly!

MoFoFlo · 23/08/2023 20:27

I’ve told DD that I’m happy to drive her to school and wait in the car if she wants, but I think she’ll meet her friends and walk in with them. She’s not decided yet.

Changes17 · 23/08/2023 20:27

I will but only because it’s two buses otherwise. Am expecting to be waiting outside…

Parapapampam · 23/08/2023 20:28

Bit of a mix then, Ds is planning on finding out what time his friends are heading in, so think I will leave him to it, with strict instructions to let me know ASAP, I can see him heading off into town after forgetting to let me know 😂

Very few parents come to any school I’ve taught in. But they do hang around outside.

SuperSue77 · 23/08/2023 20:31

This is interesting to hear - although it’s still 5 years away for me, I’ve been wondering what I’ll do because I have twins going to different secondary schools. One can walk to theirs, the other is a car drive away. Hopefully one of them will tell me they don’t want me there!

BobBobBobbing · 23/08/2023 20:32

I'm allowed to take him in, but only as the bus doesn't get there in time. I'm staying outside. That's what I made my mum do!

RuthW · 23/08/2023 20:32

Never heard of parents going before. It's something they do independently

wizzler · 23/08/2023 20:32

No ... Dd is going in with friends and texting me her results

bumblefeline · 23/08/2023 20:33

DD is meeting her friend there and her mum is going. I have work. I never went to my eldest's, no parents did I don't think.

Anjelika · 23/08/2023 20:35

DS is going in with his friends. I didn't even realise it was a thing for parents to go in!

spiderlight · 23/08/2023 20:39

We're going with him but probably waiting in the car. He thinks he wants to go in with his friend but then come and open them in the car with us, but he might change his mind in the morning.

ShowOfHands · 23/08/2023 20:41

We will already know dd's results as they will be online an hour before collection. I will go with DD as I also teach at the school and want to check in with the students. I've asked DD if she wants me to keep out of the way and she said of course not, come and collect with me.

llareggub · 23/08/2023 20:41

My son says they are emailed out?

ShowOfHands · 23/08/2023 20:44

llareggub · 23/08/2023 20:41

My son says they are emailed out?

Different schools do things differently, particularly post Covid. Lots of schools have stuck with letting them know electronically.

Hooferr · 23/08/2023 20:45

Do what works for you both.

I went in with ds and so did lots of other parents.

Other kids instructed their parents to drive them to school and wait in the car park then pretended they'd got there on their own.

16 year olds are funny.

chutneypig · 23/08/2023 20:47

For DS his school are encouraging parents to attend, DD's school have asked parents not to come in.

Hooferr · 23/08/2023 20:47

llareggub · 23/08/2023 20:41

My son says they are emailed out?

Sounds unlikely.

What have school said? Don't you get communication from them?
