Are you accompanying your DC to collect GCSE results?

Just that really, we live very close to school, Ds has to collect in person, he was just going to walk in on his own, but then I thought will other parents go along for moral support 🤔Ds has said he doesn't mind either way.

We were away when my older Dd got her results by email, so don't know the norm for collecting in person.

We went in too. DS needed a lift, we offered to wait in the car/car park/outside where he was collecting them - but there were loads of parents in there, so in we went too. Probably because everyone needed a lift to get there (usually take school bus but not at this time of year).

I’m waiting in the car while she opens with friends. What I’m actually doing is downloading them from the online parent portal whilst sat in the car. Our school say collection in person from 9am and also available online from 9am. DD doesn’t know that I’m downloading them and I’m not asking her if I can in case she says no! I’ll act surprised! I’m actually having a sleepless night and just checked the portal now in case they have accidentally uploaded them early!

I'm sorry but that feels wrong.
It's your DD's results, not yours. It should be up to her how and when she tells you.
I'm surprised the school is even adding them to the parent portal, especially at this stage.

Including today I've now had 3 kids collect GCSE results (2 of whom have also collected A level results) and I've never once seen a parent go into the school. Lots wait outside, either on foot or in cars, but nobody goes in. I'm fairly sure it was the same when I got my own results too, way back in the mists of time!

I’ve worked in a school for a decade, seen 1000s of kids come in to collect results. The few that come in alone really stand out, almost everyone has a parent or two with them.

I've done 5 results days now. I'd say it's only a few whose parents go into the grounds, probably about 30-40% have a parent waiting outside. But the majority come on their own.

Going to depend on the school.

I went in with dd today. Well, we parked up (had to drive her, as school is 20 miles away), and then walked down to school together. She met friends and went in with them. I hovered outside, met a couple of her friend’s mums, and we went in together after 5 minutes or so, and hung around the other end of the room from where the girls were collecting results. Lots of parents there, all giving their daughters space with friends/teachers. School had laid on refreshments (tea/coffee/juice, and pastries), so we nibbled on those while waiting, and chatted to various teachers/head of year/pastoral staff etc.
