At the risk of being REALLY prissy about it, I think that's so unfair. We've all got teenagers in bits today who would love a 'wink wink' phone call.

But that's just how I feel in this particularly heightened state of anxiety!

DarkChocHolic · 23/08/2023 14:03

@AAnxiousElephant77
I have this weird thought that maybe DDs school will call if we needed to go in person to apply for remark..
I am sure they won't even if we are in a dire position but the thought has been in my head all morning.
A call from the school's number today would jump me totally!
I should have faith..I should have faith:-)

AnxiousElephant77 · 23/08/2023 14:03

I have so many thoughts. None of them good. I'm trying to be positive but she's wobbling so much that now I'm inwardly freaking out too.

LighthouseCat · 23/08/2023 11:57

Your poor DD (and poor you!). It's a stressful time and I really feel for this cohort. I've been trying to stay positive whilst also manage expectations but apparently I'm just giving off massive stress vibes. Thank goodness the wait is nearly over.

Thank you @LiLighthouseCat

WaitingforThursday · 23/08/2023 14:10

If we were asked to go in early I'd worry that it would be so that DD could be given bad news in private before the other students arived. Now I am asking DD to check her email just in case she has been!

(Obviously that's not the case for the DC asked to go in for a photo).

AnxiousElephant77 · 23/08/2023 14:11

I nearly jumped out of my skin when I received the COMPLETELY GENERIC 'arrangements for enrolment' email this morning Blush

jamimmi · 23/08/2023 14:25

We shall see, I agree it is not fair and I'm still wondering what she got, she's also a prefect so that might be why. She hates photos so not ver y impressed!

FourTeaFallOut · 23/08/2023 14:40

Poor ds is looking a bit anxious today. He's been quite stoic until now. His intended sixth form college has emailed today to wish them all luck. Hopefully by this time tomorrow he'll be all signed up.

FourTeaFallOut · 23/08/2023 14:42

Edited because I saw the option and decided to give it a whirl...didn't realize it would announce it to the world 😁

NCTDN · 23/08/2023 15:22

Ooh I didn't know you could edit!!

NCTDN · 23/08/2023 15:23

DS saw his computer science teacher (SLT) at lunchtime heading into school for the results. I said he should have asked him how he was feeling!

MrsBeetlejuice · 23/08/2023 15:37

@OvaHere Yes, that's pretty much what I went for in the end. Now need to decide what to write!

Does anyone know how common it is for students to get a place into sixth form if they didn't get a 4 in maths or English, but did meet the other requirements?

On the open evening, I'm sure they said that they can accept students to re take those compulsory subjects along side their chosen A Levels if other requirements are met, but that it's not a guarantee. Just went on their website and can't see any mention of this, so am back to really panicking, as dd really struggles with maths.

We are in exactly the same boat. I've heard lots of comments about 'discretion' but realistically, I have no idea when that would be applied.

Rowgtfc72 · 23/08/2023 15:50

Dds best friend has just had a phonecall to go into school at 830 for a press photo.
I said to dd, you know that means she's done really well? Dd went , really? She's rung her back to let her know and is chuffed to bits for her.
Unfortunately means dd is now opening her results on her own.

BobBobBobbing · 23/08/2023 15:51

We're in the same boat with english as the problem. Our 6th form were very up front and said as long as his other grades met the course standards then they'd take him with a resit required in the English.

MoFoFlo · 23/08/2023 16:00

The sixth form college DD is hopefully going to have said fine if they don’t have a 4 for maths or English as long as it’s not a requirement for their chosen subjects, but they obviously need to do resits.

One school sixth form she looked at said they couldn’t accommodate someone needing to resit both maths and English.

Purpleconcreteroad · 23/08/2023 13:26

Also have skin in the game with this one. Will be very interesting to see what the grade boundaries are like for this paper.

Worrying about this one here too. Its one of DD's A-level choices but that paper 2 was bad, so who knows!?!

MoFoFlo · 23/08/2023 16:04

Starting to feel a bit nervous now! I just want DD to feel pleased or at least comfortable with her results as she worked hard and really applied herself. She says she’s not bothered but I can see it’s on her mind. Thankfully she has training tonight so she’s got something to key her busy.

Was she predicted to do well?

bumblefeline · 23/08/2023 16:06

Worrying here about the 4 in Maths as well, my dd is at the borderline. She is going to a college though for A levels, not a 6th form so I am hoping they will be a lot more lenient.

Good luck to all those getting results tomorrow.

FourTeaFallOut · 23/08/2023 16:10

Surely not all the photo op kids are getting a string of 9s? I've seen plenty of - here's some kids opening their results - news clips and watched faces fall as they read out lower grades than expected. All I'm saying is that I'd take a cautionary approach to an early celebration if Look North are coming 🤷

MargaretThursday · 23/08/2023 16:22

Well I suppose you could wonder if the newspapers want to run the "GCSE students devastated" then they could call the bad ones in first...
But they don't call them in for that for a photo op for that. There used to be some schools who called those who might be really upset in first so they can get their results/advice without everyone else round

I thought schools had been told not to do that any more though. Can't remember where I heard that, because it is not just giving the game away, but also potentially causing stress among other students who then think they must have done badly, which is unfair.

Rowgtfc72 · 23/08/2023 16:25

@RedHelenB yes she was.

WaitingforThursday · 23/08/2023 16:35

Does anyone know when they release the grade boundaries? Just wondering whether I will be able to torture myself by looking up the OCR computer science boundaries whilst I'm waiting. School doesn't open till 9 and I'm telling myself it will take till 10 for DD to queue, get results, chat to friends etc before getting round to calling me!

Ooh have just worked out where the edit button is!

jamimmi · 23/08/2023 16:38

Re the phone call. Predicted grades were good, but not all 9s. I'm hoping she's managed the 9 she wanted for one subject but not expecting more the a 6 for English!
