My DD's came in March, she was 16 in April

Jowak1 · 09/06/2023 16:32

My son's birthday was yesterday and his card came about 3 months ago

lemonyellows · 09/06/2023 16:33

Apparently foundation biology was mostly about salmon 😂

SummerCyclist98 · 09/06/2023 16:35

Hmmm thanks I’m guessing she’s been missed then .. I will have to try to phone line again as you can’t do it online!

christmastreefarm · 09/06/2023 16:36

My DD is so happy. I had given her the choice of not going into school (they are still in until 1 pm every day) but said consider how you feel if they cover something that comes up in the exam. Anyway she went in - turns out the one of the 6 markers was something they talked about Tuesday so going in paid off.

megletthesecond · 09/06/2023 16:40

summer DS's came a month or so before his 16th birthday last autumn. But I'm sure we had a letter just before that confirming his details. There was a typo in his name that I had to amend.

LighthouseCat · 09/06/2023 16:41

OCR biology triple higher and AQA geog. Both ok. Not dancing round the room happy but still on track for predicted grades she thinks

Whatisitn0w · 09/06/2023 16:43

DS said that AQA Higher Biology (triple) wasn't great. It's his least favourite science so the one he's done the least revision for (I'd also had to stop myself asking him if he was doing enough as I could feel it wasn't helping anyway!)
What will be will be, now!

Timeforaliein · 09/06/2023 16:43

IGCSE biology a bit meh. But that is substantially better than paper 1 😂

CornishCoast · 09/06/2023 16:44

National Insurance number was issued just before her 16th birthday. Letter in the post.

Same here.
At least DS2 doesn’t need Biology for his chosen 6th form.

He said it was the hardest so far, after Computer Science.

Whatisitn0w · 09/06/2023 16:52

I have a look on 'The Student Room' to see reactions to exams (they're not always all on there). AQA Biology Higher has the most mixed opinions that I've seen for an exam so far...

GCSE supporting - to half term, and beyond!
Letskeepgoing · 09/06/2023 16:53

Ds thought AQA higher biology was good but not as good as paper 1
Same with Geography, ok but not as easy as paper 1.
Anyway 2 more down!
Well done all!!!

Yes! And peat bogs and sea lice.

My DD claims she's never been taught about any of that, must not have been concentrating in those lessons then

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/06/2023 16:58

@julesover40 well done to your dd finding a job, what is she doing? My dd is also keen to find a summer job but has left it late. She meant to look around properly a few months ago but then GCSEs/revision was looming.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/06/2023 17:01

Circleoffifths · 09/06/2023 14:05

AQA grade 9 boundary last year was 66% and 67% in 2019.

This sounds reassuring @Circleoffifths Dd is doing double science AQA. She got 6-6 in the mocks but it hoping for a bit higher. What would she need for 7s?

Neversaygoodbye · 09/06/2023 17:04

DS did both AQA geography and biology, he said both were harder than paper 1 and not great, however, he's revision has dropped off to pretty much nothing so I can't say I'm surprised. He sacrificed revision sessions offered at school yesterday for lazing around as it was his birthday. The short sightedness of the young!

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/06/2023 17:05

Radio silence from dd about Biology (AQA combined) so I’m assuming it wasn’t great. Looks like she’s not alone.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/06/2023 17:06

@Neversaygoodbye happy birthday to your ds! Is he having a post exam party?

kidstaxidriver · 09/06/2023 17:06

IGCSE Bio felt to be much better than Paper 1 thank goodness. Just hoping it’s enough to pass! AQA Geog Paper 2 not as liked as much as Paper 1. Roll on a relaxing evening. Wishing you all a lovely sunny weekend and well done to these kids (and parents!) for surviving - it’s a real marathon!

The 7-7 grade boundary for 2019 was a mark of 199 out of 420 for combined science trilogy - 47%.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/06/2023 17:15

Thank you @Circleoffifths nice to know they can still do pretty well with less than 50%.

TripleDaisySummer · 09/06/2023 17:21

Aside from exams have your 16yr olds received a National insurance number?

Yes a letter for both of them before they were 16.

https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number

It's done though child benefit claim and now not everyone claims - but they can apply though it could be postal - I know my DP seem to suffer increasingly from lost post. No card like I got just a letter with the number on.

Apply for a National Insurance number

Apply for your first National Insurance number - you must have the right to live and work in the UK.

SheilaFentiman · 09/06/2023 17:23

Yes, we have.
