9 to go here, but 6 of those are the week after half term.

The rest are spread out fairly evenly.

DS has had two days where he had 3 exams (total 5.5 hours). They weren't fun. Any advance on that...?

CornishCoast · 27/05/2023 17:46

@SheilaFentiman Thanks for the thread.

DD much happier today after 12 hours sleep, doing some exercise now and chilling rest of today. Might do some work tomorrow, up to her, I am not going to mention GCSEs until Monday.

BobBobBobbing · 27/05/2023 17:48

15 down, 10 to go here.

Apart from a session with his English tutor, we've taken a break here. He's cleaned out the pond and done some gardening, before taking apart a gadget so he can put it back together (his idea of fun).

pinkflop · 27/05/2023 18:33

Thanks for the new thread.

Some revision happening here today. Cold War and chemistry.

9 exams left.

Hersetta427 · 27/05/2023 18:39

DS is taking the weekend off and starting again on Monday. She spent the day cleaning her bedroom yesterday (shock horror) and did a 3 hr training session, took her on a primark trip today and tomorrow she is working at the u19 all star game for her main sport (she has a official qualification) and then back to it as she has 7 exams the week after half term.

something to look forward to though, I booked to take her to see her grandparents in Spain when exams are all done.

Hersetta427 · 27/05/2023 18:39

DD not DS !!

tourdefrance · 27/05/2023 18:47

14 down, 11 to go here.

DS did some Maths and Biology here but also made it to parkrun for the first time this month.
Day off tomorrow and planning a day out with him mid week too.

We would normally be in Cornwall but decided not to this year.

Rowgtfc72 · 27/05/2023 19:16

Dd was supposed to be in school for three mornings next week for revision.
We've decided against it. She needs a break and admits she gets more done at home.
The teacher organising it wasn't impressed and told her she needed be in because everyone that tells him they're revising at home is obviously lying. She explained she'd started in Sept and had filled her bedroom wall with revision notes and he said he'd heard it all before and laughed. She had the courtesy to only slam the door on the way out the classroom.
The school are desperate for good grades and are concentrating on the middle performing kids.
It's a joke.

Thank you!
10 down 8 to go if I'm right :D

Thanks for new thread.

Art, how do you turn raw marks into a grade? We have marks as well but no idea what grade it will be

We got a score out of 96. Then googled AQA art grade boundaries 2019 and worked out what DD's grade is from that (obviously it's not definitely going to be that grade as raw score could still change and grade boundaries might be different)

My DD is taking day off tomorrow to watch the u19 all star game in her main sport - wonder if it is the same?! She has had 8 exams so far with another 15 after halfterm. Feels like a long way to go!

Circleoffifths · 27/05/2023 19:39

DD is doing Edexcel. Her teacher gave her 2 raw marks. One is worth 60% and one is worth 40%. Both marks are out of 72. For the mark which is worth 60% you multiply it by 1.5, add that to the other one which gives a total out of 180. The grade boundaries are online. But because of adjustments over the last few years you have to go back to 2019 to get a mark out of 180. The boundaries for 2019 and 2018 are the same. Grade boundaries for art look more stable than other subjects, I guess because they are not subject to the same fluctuations as with written papers.

DD has been sat on the beach with her mates for the day (for reasons I don't understand it is sooo cheap for kids to get a 90 min train journey to the beach, but less cheap to a city 13 mikes away).

She is definitely in "holiday mode" and I hate to clip her wings.

lol how funny- I reckon it could be. She would love to be playing in it in the next two years.

SummerSazz · 27/05/2023 19:43

DD has gone away for the weekend to work so three days off. She gets herself so her up about revision and over does it so overall a good thing I think to have a complete change of scenery.

She'll probably go into overdrive panic when she gets back mind you..... 🤨

We still have 12 to go, 5 and then 7 so that's going to be tough.

Raw Art scores for AQA are out of 96 and past grade boundaries are here. You can search online for other exam boards.

DD got 81 and 84 and a 9 in 2022 was 81 and 78 in 2021 so she's keeping her fingers crossed this doesn't increase

It’s rubbish isn’t it how much they assume the worst. Schools often seem to find it difficult to believe that kids actually care about their own grades.

Rowgtfc72 · 27/05/2023 19:49

@Circleoffifths it's an academy rated good. They've just been taken on by a new academy Trust and are out to impress. Many yr 11 parents are on countdown to their kids leaving. As were last years. And the year before.
It's not the worst, but it's not the best either.

Sounds quite likely! My DD is heading to an academy sixth form for the sport in September - also keen to play in the next 2 yrs. Well done to your DD for officiating at the event.

thank you. Dd is off to an academy too. Lots of offers - we just need to pick the one that compliments good academics with the sports side.

think I know who your daughter is - they had a great season.

lemonyellows · 27/05/2023 20:20

No revision today. He deserves a day off. Back to it tomorrow for half day then at school for a couple of sessions of English language this week. Fitting the rest around that. Not long now

Apparently my sons Computer Science teacher has e-mailed the exam board about the 2nd exam paper saying how ridiculously hard it was and that it was more like A level
Content!!
