DS said it wasn't good too @Fifiellz. I've tried to reassure on the basis it's one paper out of 6 so if chemistry and physics are okay, then hopefully it won't bring the overall grade down too much

Yes I've said that as well. Fingers crossed for them all!

BaconAndAvocado · 09/06/2023 15:17

Do we know how the Higher Biology paper went?
I know I’ll get the stock answer of “it went ok” when DS2 gets in.

spiderlight · 09/06/2023 15:21

Oh no - your poor DD, @Fifiellz 😥

Piony · 09/06/2023 15:25

oh no. DD's still in hers til 3.45 (extra time).

Reassuring to hear that the grade boundaries have been relatively low for AQA Bio lately.

Combined or triple? DS said it wasn't great but he was planning on doing a bit more revising after geography but he got distracted apparently. I'm annoyed because he was stropping about me nagging him to get his head down yesterday and I was completely right. One of those times when you don't want to be!

BaconAndAvocado · 09/06/2023 15:38

Clymene it’s triple...as in he’s doing 3 separate Science GCSEs (Bio, Chem and Physics).

Fifiellz · 09/06/2023 14:51

Ugh. Biology did not go well. First time for tears.

Apparently it was incredibly random and nothing came up that was on the checklist (whatever that is) she was revising against.

That's going to ruin the weekend revising vibe 😩

Aww that’s so sad. Big hugs! Is this the one she wanted to do for A-Levels? I’ve had no news yet about Biology or Geography and DS and friends tend to hang about after school. I had tears the other day with the octagon in Maths! I expect tears from DS if it didn’t go well too! Any of these exams not going well will be tears.

CornishCoast · 09/06/2023 15:44

DD is sitting iGCSE Biology 2-4 pm (triple science). Will hopefully hear later today.

Hersetta427 · 09/06/2023 15:48

DD back from OCR Gateway triple paper. She thought it was OK but most said it was awful - there were a few in tears she said.

DD said there wasn't many fact based questions where you could show off what you had learnt but more interpreting data in connection with an animal and the special conditions in which they live. SHe said there were 3-4 big mark questions all of this type.

CallmeIT · 09/06/2023 15:50

My DD thought biology (combined higher AQA) was good, better than paper 1 anyway. Mostly she’s happy that she doesn’t have to do it again!

Rowgtfc72 · 09/06/2023 15:50

Dd home from higher combined science. Said it was easy and she expects at least a grade 7!
She went into school yesterday, no exams but expected some revision. Nothing. But she still has to go in. A few off them got together to do music revision to find they still haven't covered the entire course despite the teacher telling them they had.
This is the subject she's predicted her highest grade for. Parents evening whenever we've questioned the teacher he just says oh your kids my little star. She'll do well.
Very helpful . Not.

5 to go next week. We're now on countdown to getting out of this godawful school.

Honeylemonandginger · 09/06/2023 15:54

AQA Biology (Higher) message from DD that it was okay. She said most people found it okay -not brilliant.
she couldn’t wait to tell me that there was a question on “boobs” she enjoyed answering! 😄

HappiDaze · 09/06/2023 15:55

DD was pleased that Triple Biology was fine so all good there

iwantavuvezela · 09/06/2023 15:57

DD going against the grain it seems (AQA higher) said she didn't like it - no details though. Sent me a crying face emoji! Oh well its done now,

Starlightstarbright1 · 09/06/2023 15:58

My son is lower combined- said it was easy..Geography was ok.. ..

I don't think I will know in reality till results day

filchards · 09/06/2023 16:05

DS doing Biology OCR board (higher/triple). Haven't heard from him. I suspect he might in McDonald's.

Has never liked Biology but has made a bit of effort (we talking of a very low bar here, where he's done nothing in the past for Mocks). He only used Seneca. Completely ignored all the books and flashcards I bought. And seemed to have no intelligible class notes to revise from.

Ah well, that's another subject killed off forever this week. That makes me feel good so must be wonderful for him!

I suspect we have a weekend of complaining that it's too hot to revise English Language and Chemistry. Definitely feels like the homeward straight though.

DarkChocHolic · 09/06/2023 16:06

DD's words on AQA higher biology " a bit meh"
She found the paper 1 far better

HebeJeeby · 09/06/2023 16:07

DD did AQA higher combined, said it went well but not as well as Paper 1. She said the wording of some of the questions was different to ones they’d done previously which threw her slightly. Anyway, that’s biology done forever.

Blubell46 · 09/06/2023 16:09

My dd said geography was good but biology higher AQA wasn't great- could of been better!!

She said she had trouble understanding the question. She mentioned there were maths solutions ...

Here's hoping for low grade boundaries!

SummerCyclist98 · 09/06/2023 16:09

“It wasn’t as bad as expect but it wasn’t great” AQA triple she needs a G6 for college so fingers tightly crossed on that one and the chemistry to come. Off to 4hrs of sports training tonight to decompress now even if it’s a tad hot!

mumonthehill · 09/06/2023 16:10

Well done to all dc. Hope everyone is having a drink/ cake to celebrate the end of another week!

Definitely going to be having a glass of wine tonight. I have made Rolo Brownies today which are chilling in the fridge to bring out their squidge for DD to consume over the next few days.

One more week to go - end is in sight !

minisnowballs · 09/06/2023 16:24

apparently Exdexcel higher biology was 'gross'...

TGIF

Aside from exams have your 16yr olds received a National insurance number? Just realised DD hasn’t and wants to work once exams over as lots seasonal jobs around here, we tried to phone tax line in Halfterm but it said it was closed!
