Nearly there! I haven’t slept properly the last few nights. Roll on tomorrow morning. I think.

Watapalava · 24/08/2022 07:07

is it a 6th form thing? Dd is off to one of the best colleges in our area and it’s any clothing- she’s been out and stocked up on gym wear and jeans!

Where we live all sixth form and the college have no dress code. Am very glad tbh 😊

MirandaWest · 24/08/2022 07:47

I slept all right but woke up feeling anxious. I should think that DD will be quite stressed today.

This time tomorrow we’ll probably be in the car going to school…

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 24/08/2022 07:52

Feel sick here too. Run out of paracetamol. 😞 DC did say at the time that they didn't even think that the Chemistry paper was in English it was so hard. 😕

TeenDivided · 24/08/2022 07:52

DD is at an agricultural college. No dress code for theory days. On practical days it is steel capped boots, overalls, hair tied back, no makeup, perfume, jewelry or nail polish.

Rollergirl11 · 24/08/2022 07:53

Yes DD is also particularly worried about Chemistry. She came out crying after the first exam because she thought she’d done so badly!

I’m just willing the days to pass now until tomorrow.

Wondering if it’s worth creating a new GCSE results thread tonight in preparation for tomorrow? There’s only about 100 replies left on this one and have a feeling it will
fill up quickly once the results start coming in and will have to faff around creating a new thread?

PugInTheHouse · 24/08/2022 07:59

We found out yesterday were not allowed to go and collect them till 10am so will be a long morning tomorrow.

PugInTheHouse · 24/08/2022 08:02

It's only the private school 6th form that have to wear suits here, everywhere else us very casual. DSs college merged with 2 other colleges a few years ago and his only does vocational courses so it's all very relaxed.

Yes good idea re a new thread @Rollergirl11

Rollergirl11 · 24/08/2022 08:14

Same here, our window for collecting is 10.00 to 11.30. I think DD will try and sleep as late as poss so as to avoid being stressed but I doubt I’ll be awake at the crack of dawn.

I’ll create a new thread tonight and link in this one.

New thread definitely a good idea :)

Akite · 24/08/2022 08:53

Thank you to the PP who suggested m&s's 6th form section, I ordered a load of things last night so fingers crossed some fits. We found a pair of acceptable trousers in House of Fraser sale too so might just order a few more pairs of those as well. Tops/shirts we are sadly lacking in.
tension is definitely building in the house, DD is behaving horribly to her siblings. Can't wait for it to be over.

You're welcome @Akite,it wasn't much use to us though as DDs are hoping to go to 6th Form college where there's no dress code

Purple24 · 24/08/2022 09:08

24 hours to go... our window is 9am-11am. We'll get there at 8.45am.

What results do your kids need? We need 5x 6's for the chosen a levels - specifically a 6 in English and geography for two of the courses.

Planning on going out this afternoon to help the day go a bit quicker!

Akite · 24/08/2022 09:27

30 points across the 6 best results and then 7s in the subjects she's picked. One of them is psychology and that needs I think at least a 6 in Biology?

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 24/08/2022 09:44

We need 7s for A level subjects and 'good' passes for everything else. That looks really grim written down.

TheOnlyMrsW · 24/08/2022 09:55

Very occasional poster returning here too, been awake since 3.30 but at least got lots of boring chores done!!!
DD was fine but is now making references to being stressed and wanting to go into school early for her results so she can open them in relative privacy - they're open from 8.30. She was originally predicted 6's and 7's across the board but is talking herself down quite a lot from there - plus will get an average mark for maths paper 1 as she was given the wrong paper 😡. School have already said that if this causes her to get lower than a 6 she can still carry onto A level but it will be a real shame as she'd worked up from a 4 in yr 10 exams to a predicted 7..........
Thankfully school 6th form isn't business dress, she's planning jeans, band tees and hoodies for the entire year!
I'd be very grateful for a 6th form/college thread - we're already looking at possibly doing some uni open days this year to prep for applying next autumn!!!!!

TheOnlyMrsW · 24/08/2022 09:56

Gah posted too soon - should have also said I've lurked a lot even though I haven't posted, good luck to all of our DCs, they've had such a crappy time of it that just getting through should be rewarded imho

aramox1 · 24/08/2022 10:06

no results til 10 here, another 24 hrs to go...

nicky2512 · 24/08/2022 10:56

Different board from most of you (CCEA) but chemistry was a disaster here too. Four topics hadn’t even been finished. Ds worked really hard for it but like a pp said much of it might as well have been in a different language.
wouldn’t mind so much but it really upset him and probably affected other exams.

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 24/08/2022 11:08

Joining as the waiting is awful. 10am for us too. DD needs 7's in science subjects which is a real worry.

zighead · 24/08/2022 11:24

Think a specific results thread is a great idea @Rollergirl11 I'm so glad DS can get his results at 9. I would hate to wait until later that morning.

I am still surprisingly calm which is unlike me. I did surprise myself during GCSEs about how chill I remained as I am a real worrier.

Think I'm currently worrying about his new job instead as he was expecting to have a start date and I'm worried that he's missed an email/notification/phone call but won't let me check the website they use. DS is also getting irritated at me asking him about it.

DFOD · 24/08/2022 11:58

We can pick results up at 8:30.

I expect they will be taken into the car or another room for privacy … she says she doesn’t want us to see them initially?

I always go for prepare for the worst and hope for the best approach for most things in life to manage expectations and uncertainty and then what is the impact of across that grade spectrum on her next steps. She is moving to a local 6 grammar form - they “only” need 48 points across top 8 - so all 6s would get her through (although they offered places to those with higher predictions). She was predicted three 9s, three 8s, three 7s, and a 6 ….. but is now convinced (due to the rising doubt over 2 months) that every paper was horrific and in her head she has failed some and the best will be 5s and 4s. I think she has got to this point because that would not gain her entry into 6th form….totally unrealistic (famous last words).

So as long as she gets 48 points we will be celebrating hard. If she doesn’t we will be looking for a plan B. But even then we will be celebrating because I know she grafted and did her best and we have already shown our respect for that - where some random algorithm draws grade boundaries is out of her control.

Less than 24hrs now …..

Wishing you all the best for your DC who have experienced and worked through the worst of times.

Dixiechickonhols · 24/08/2022 12:37

MyOtherProfile · 20/08/2022 06:46

She said the other day she will be celebrating if she gets all 8’s and 9’s. She will be content with some 7’s but she won’t be celebrating.

Isn't it crazy? I keep telling mine that 7 was the best you could get in our day and that's an A so I'd be very happy with any 7s. Anything else is a bonus that shouldn't even exist imho so celebrate away!

I have said said thing several times. It’s awful when they see a 7 as just ok when it’s an A.
We are away on holiday just hoping all goes smoothly online and we can get 6th form confirmed.
Not doing money for grades I didn’t realise it was a thing!

CornishGem1975 · 24/08/2022 12:41

I'd be over the moon with 7s, but realistically I think it will be 6s and 5s - fingers crossed as that's all she needs.
