Hi all. Glad all DCs are getting some r&r and that you had a good hols @Silkierabbit

We're currently in Florida - v hot but not quite as hot as home and at least here we have air con all over the place!

DS really enjoying the downtime - even had his photo taken with Mickey yesterday!!

His school have set some maths pre-work (a lot he says but I've not looked at it) but nothing for physics or chem. DS has chosen the EPQ and knows what he doing already which is impressive!!

Silkierabbit · 18/07/2022 22:18

Thanks QueenMabby Have a wonderful time in Florida sounds great.

DD has done 3 days of her job and seems to really enjoy it and enjoy getting money.

I did my CT for radio today, not too bad. 39C here today, yikes. And Mr Floof decides its a sensible idea to sunbathe, he is not the most intelligent of cats, last time it was hot he went on fleece bedding and was panting. He hates water but would take ice cubes today but played football with them, at least his paws were cool. He has been drinking water at least but the rabbits water.

Hope everyone is OK in the heat.

Silkierabbit · 18/07/2022 22:21

Have a lovely time in Majorca Lego The MP and LA are involved in getting DS an education but its a lot of talks and not much action but things are starting to happen.

LouisCatorze · 19/07/2022 07:51

@Silkierabbit hope your DD wasn't punting yesterday in that heat? I hope something is sorted out for your DS soon - do you think it likely before the beginning of the new academic year.

Enjoy your time in Mallorca @legosunqueen .

DD and DS back from their trip to France. Had a great time it would seem but will get the full story today when they surface. They arrived home in the wee small hours.

A bit of down time for DD (and she's not tutoring this week as the family are away), then DS's graduation to look forward to (hopefully much cooler weather).

MrsScrubbingbrush · 19/07/2022 08:01

Currently sitting around the pool in Turkey. DDs did last minute shopping and saw friends, had a taster day for 6th Form College and generally chilled out before we came.

They have plans for when we get back which include a Harry Potter film marathon (all 20 hours of it!) and a LOTR marathon.

DD1 has some work to do for Biology researching a famous biologist and wring 2 sides of A4 quoting 3 sources. We watched the French version of the Intouchables the other night so that counts as French prep!

Will get back into the swing of things next week when we return home hut until then it's mainly swimming & shopping in the local markets for us.

Hope you all enjoy the summer holidays.

salsamummy · 19/07/2022 12:47

Hello everyone from not so glamourous Peak District. Had a lovely day at Chatsworth house. DS stayed back at the rental with the dog. DH and DS at Alton towers today and bought the fast track passes so having a good time there in the heat. lol Rather them than me. I am lounging around the house as too hot atm.
We have my father in law's funeral on Tuesday and my son's birthday is this Saturday when he is 16 and only wants money and to go for a posh italian meal which we have booked for just the three of us.

Silkierabbit · 19/07/2022 18:46

Glad your kids had a good time in France Louis Yes she was doing some outside stuff yesterday but they moved today and let her off early yesterday with full pay for day. She was very happy.

Hope your son had a lovely 16th Salsa

Have a lovely holiday Scrubbing

CornishGem1975 · 22/07/2022 17:59

Did you see that AQA are planning to strike and it could affect all the results?

StColumbofNavron · 22/07/2022 18:47

It seems like everyone wants to strike about something or other. I’m generally quite a lefty and believe in the right to strike but there is so much of it at the moment. We have BA flights from Heathrow next week and there is lots going on there too.

I’ve had the busiest week with primary school ending, trying to tie up loose ends at work, new starters at work and need to spend the weekend washing and packing as working Monday and Tuesday till quite late. Luckily, we are going to the ancestral holiday home built by my grandpa so there is a washing machine and I am contemplating a rucksack each for 3.5 weeks. We are literally just by the sea and will have a few days in the city before we come back.

CornishGem1975 · 22/07/2022 19:01

I'm not in the other direction but I don't like strikes and I believe they hurt the wrong people.

StColumbofNavron · 22/07/2022 19:10

You are right I think @CornishGem1975 Its more that I support if you don’t feel you have other options that you can withdraw your labour. It just currently seems to be for everything and anything. Maybe we are heading for a general strike.

Lightsabre · 22/07/2022 19:28

Can't believe the news about the AQA strikes today - is anything about this exam period easy for our kids! Luckily for us, Ds has only two AQA board exams I think.

legosunqueen · 22/07/2022 19:51

@CornishGem1975 all our DC's need after the longest exam period ever - although generally I too support the right to withdraw labour.

@salsamummy hope the funeral went ok & that your DS's birthday meal is good...

@StColumbofNavron travelling light sounds like the way to go, have a good holiday. I worked the day before going away & even ended up doing most of the packing on the day of travel which I hate & I reckon it has taken me a week to properly unwind but I am so loving being abroad again.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 23/07/2022 08:12

Summer hols abroad cancelled with 48 hours to go. DH has Covid. Lots and lots of tears 😢. Think I'm getting it too. Feel dreadful. Sorry to be so miserable. DC terribly sad. As an aside, most of DCs exams were AQA. Not having a good day.

Lightsabre · 23/07/2022 09:34

Oh no @Womblesaremyfavouritefood, so sorry to hear this - really terrible timing. Is there any chance of rearranging? Wishing you a speedy recovery.

salsamummy · 23/07/2022 09:51

Ds is 16 today and didn't want to plan anything (is this unusual?) We are taking him out to a very nice restaurant this evening.

Father in law's funeral is on Tuesday so feel a bit in limbo and I am going back to do some work this coming week after a week off. Feel a bit cheated not going overseas but seems such a hassle with everything going on and now having a dog too.
DH is about to go back to sea for 4 months so there is also that adjustment period.
sorry for those who are feeling poorly or have missed holidays.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 23/07/2022 09:54

@Womblesaremyfavouritefood so sorry that has happened to you, how disappointing, hope you feel much better soon.

Most of DS exams were AQA as well, really hoping there is not a major delay though it seems that the sixth forms start their term a bit later than I was anticipating so there will be a little bit more time between results and starting than I thought. Hopefully it will be enough time for him to complete the summer work, he has done some but I'm not going to push for the next few weeks.

Silkierabbit · 23/07/2022 10:22

Happy 16th to you DS Salsa Hope he has a lovely day and nice he wants to go out with you.

So sorry about the covid and cancelled holiday Wombles Hope you get better soon and can go on a holiday another time soon.

zighead · 23/07/2022 10:25

Happy Birthday to your DS @salsamummy My DS had his birthday during the exams and we celebrated with a meal out too. Enjoy! Hope the funeral goes okay too.

I'm sorry to hear about your cancelled holiday @Womblesaremyfavouritefood Not surprised you're all upset. Hope you feel better soon.

I can't remember if my DS had any AQA exams, need to check, but what a nuisance if the results are delayed! Presumably they will be as otherwise the strike wouldn't really have any impact and would be pointless?

Have a great holiday @StColumbofNavron We go next week to Spain and I really need to start packing and stop lying on my bed on Mumsnet. Love procrastinating Blush

Have a good weekend all.

MirandaWest · 23/07/2022 11:16

The majority of DDs exams were AQA - think only maths wasn’t. Seeing as she told me off for talking too much about exam results a couple of days ago I’m not planning on mentioning it to her 😃

I did notice when looking at the AQA website that when they get their exam results they will have a breakdown of their marks for every paper. As DS got his GCSEs in 2020 when it was rather different I hadn’t realised this happened. I can imagine DD will be scrutinising them all intently which with her is probably not a good thing….

MirandaWest · 23/07/2022 11:17

@Womblesaremyfavouritefood so sorry to hear about covid scuppering your holiday plans - so unfair 😢

legosunqueen · 23/07/2022 14:11

@Womblesaremyfavouritefood that's just so disappointing about your holiday, hope you & DH recover quickly & can rearrange it.

@salsamummy DS had a nice meal out for his birthday too, 16 feels significant but of course isn't quite adult (despite what our DCs sometimes think...) so it can be hard to know how to mark it. Have realised your FIL's funeral is this coming Tuesday, please forgive my holiday/peri-menopausal brain, still sending best wishes.

zighead · 23/07/2022 14:49

I've just checked and my DS did AQA drama, Spanish and Further Maths. Fingers crossed for no delays.

StColumbofNavron · 23/07/2022 19:20

@Womblesaremyfavouritefood Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you will get a break and not be too poorly in the meantime.

@salsamummy DS1 has only been bowling with the family for the last few years. He seems happy enough with that. I tried to celebrate end of exams and he wanted takeaway instead of going out.

we are taking barely anything on this holiday but the stuff we are taking all appears to be in the bloody wash. I have got very limited time between now and Wedn. Argh.

QueenMabby · 23/07/2022 21:14

@salsamummy - many happy returns to your ds. Also hope your FIL's funeral goes as well as can be expected.

@Womblesaremyfavouritefood - gutting about your dh and the holiday. Is it somewhere you need a negative test for? I'm sat in the lounge at Orlando airport waiting for our flight home and can hear plenty of people coughing... 😳

I've checked I with my bff who is marking for aqa as I type - she didn't know anything about a strike!!
