Thank you for the new thread!

TheWindsorKnot · 23/02/2022 09:36

Well done to this thread and keep supporting each other (unlike the other threads).

squirrelofsw19 · 23/02/2022 10:50

Aha. That’s where you are!! Interesting Head’s Q&A for WHS last night. Head was frank and open about the differences with some other girls schools in the area. We continue to home in on PHS. Hope everyone’s decision-making going smoothly and that those on waitlists find things start moving soon.

travelturtle · 23/02/2022 10:50

Thanks for the new thread! Does anyone know what happens when a child with an academic scholarship turns down an offer? Does it get offered to another child? Or does it depend on the school?

hockeygrass · 23/02/2022 10:53

@travelturtle , over offers of scholarships are built into the offer process so no it doesn't go to someone else because they don't expect them all to be accepted.

lurker here!

Just curious as to what WHS Head said was different to other girls's schools? DD is there and seems fairly similar to all the other schools!

squirrelofsw19 · 23/02/2022 12:10

Hello @hollibobs22. She said more “progressive” and perhaps less “traditional” than some other girls schools in the area. Read into that what you will. I suspect many girls wouldn’t detect the difference. The educational experiences I’m sure are very similar. What was really nice was that she told listeners to go with their gut feel about what was right for their daughters recognising that everyone has differing priorities, values and gut instincts. I think it’s great that within the GDST (and beyond) there are many variations on a theme of a great education. Am sure DDs across all schools are thriving. It’s just we can only go to one and are trying to find best fit for us which we know will be different for everyone. Glad your DD loving WHS. The Head is a seriously impressive woman.

hollibobs22 · 23/02/2022 12:13

Thanks! Yup, I think gut feel is important! Although most of them will all do absolutely fine wherever they go!

squirrelofsw19 · 23/02/2022 12:28

Yes completely agree on that. I am definitely overthinking now :)

hollibobs22 · 23/02/2022 12:39

If you really can’t make a decision go for the easiest journey!

SophyRivenhall · 23/02/2022 13:46

Thanks for the new thread @Emo76. I've just turned down DD's WL place at FHSS which I think your DD is also on the list for.

Emo76 · 23/02/2022 15:31

That’s good to hear, appreciate it may likely have no bearing on our outcome but it does give a chink of hope that there may be some movement at some point! Where did you choose?

1forward2back · 24/02/2022 06:06

@squirrelofsw19 really interesting - did she mention other schools specifically? Or just in general say “other girls schools”.

squirrelofsw19 · 24/02/2022 08:12

@1forward2back no specific schools and she was very diplomatic and definitely not critical of other schools. Just a clear explanation of what she thought was distinctive about WHS.

squirrelofsw19 · 24/02/2022 11:58

For those looking at Surbiton, just back from their Discover More event. As @FunkyT mentioned on the previous thread they are taking 7 forms of 24 girls. They are planning to continue with 7 forms per year in future. They have one year higher up the school which is 8 classes of 24 but are not anticipating a repeat of that.

Fashionables · 24/02/2022 12:18

Hi - I wondered if anyone has any information on Putney High wait list and if it has moved, is likely to move and, if anyone has been able to get any information from the school as to their child’s place on the wait list? Any sense of if they have over - offered by a big amount or not…..

Thanks! Feel very much in the dark as to the likelihood of a place!

FunkyT · 24/02/2022 12:32

@squirrelofsw19
It was rather lovely wasn't it? DS is excited!

squirrelofsw19 · 24/02/2022 12:55

@FunkyT yes I loved the talk with the girls and the video. Certainly a happy and vibrant school.

SophyRivenhall · 24/02/2022 13:41

@Emo76, haven't chosen yet! DD is on the waitlist for NHEHS (her first choice) and also PHS. She has offers from two schools in Ealing: St Benedict's (SBS) and St Augustine's. Both schools are Catholic and we are not but have a large non-Catholic contingent. If NHEHS doesn't work out, we are leaning towards SBS. While they are very different schools, I can see DD being happy at all of them.

My dilemma is the offer deadline for SBS is 3 March but both NHEHS and PHS have said their waitlists may not move much before their deadlines of 7 March. I don't know whether to accept the offer so that we have somewhere and then turn it down later if either WL results in a place. There is a 14 day cancellation period so I may get the deposit back but it doesn't seem very nice to accept an offer and then withdraw. This has been mentioned on older threads as something people do but I don't know how common this is in practice.

I had initially thought we would accept PHS over SBS but now I'm not so sure especially as the former involves a longer commute than the latter.

SkaterGrrrrl · 24/02/2022 14:15

Thanks for the new thred emo! Was anyone else at the Surbition Discover More this morning? I was looking around for the MN scarf!

trepidationstation · 24/02/2022 17:41

Finally made up our minds, with some trepidation, and declined offers at Godolphin, Putney and Latymer.

I'm a recent lurker and these threads have been really useful over the last few week - thank you!

I really hope those of you on WLs and/or waiting for National Offer Day will get good news soon.

HighRopes · 24/02/2022 19:04

Where did you decide on, trepidation?

I’ve also said thanks but no thanks to a couple of schools, and filled in their survey about why. Interestingly, one school contacted me prompting for a response, and saying they were in discussion with a number of schools with whom students were holding multiple offers. So clearly they do all talk to each other, at least at this stage.

Cinnybuns · 24/02/2022 19:42

@Fashionables we are waiting on PHS too. Sorry no info but hoping for some movement (or at least some visibility) next week. I think they went to WL last year (?)

Benny12 · 24/02/2022 20:35

@squirrelofsw19 @FunkyT @SkaterGrrrrl ...think we have settled on surbiton now ...did the discover more events and the offers event they had ...great vibe about it ...

FunkyT · 24/02/2022 22:58

Would love to arrange a meet up with the girls over Easter and Summer if anybody interested.
This group has been invaluable. Many thanks everyone for their participations x
